      That’s what I don’t get with people who do the opposite. Acting is hard, it takes talent and skill but I think the amount of money it pays is absolutely not equal to the effort.
      That’s not to say they don’t deserve it, but Jesus they should just be thankful they have the chance to make bank off of something that people will universally like you for.
      I cannot imagine being in such a position of clouded vision to be angry that my role was successful and people recognize me for it.

    I think one of the big problems with distancing himself from his character is that Trevor was physically designed after him, all of the GTA V protagonists were designed after there voice actors. So it’s kind of hard to not be Trevor when not only do you sound like him, but you also look like him.

    • @VoidOneGamer
      @VoidOneGamer Місяць тому +32

      Ogg is also kinda typecast, a lot of his roles are in a similar vein to Trevor. At least tbe ones he's known for. And it's not like he's had anything near as successful as GTAV. So I'm sure he's resentful of that.

    • @Vegas2332
      @Vegas2332 6 днів тому +3

      I think he would've gotten waaay less backlash if he didn't act like such a dick about it all. It's fine not being all hyped up when someone calls you by the name of a role you've played, but he acts like his fans are mentally not all there if they bring up his GTA role. Coming across like he's above acting in "cartoons" after what he'd describe as one built his career. Also just a dick move to set up a cameo after GTA 5 dropped, and take money from fans of that series. While basically calling them stupid for not being able to differentiate reality from a cartoon, and acting surprised people are asking about objectively the biggest role of his career. There's more tactful ways to go about saying he wants to be taken seriously as an actor, and not be attached to a single role from his career. Could've just started the cameos with a preamble about his feelings on the role before doing the Trevor stuff, or something.
      Reminds me of Rain Wilson, and his role as Dwight Shrute. He was still nice to fans of The Office, but voiced in interviews that he doesn't like being solely recognized for being Dwight. He's since somewhat gone back on that attitude, and I think that started with him understanding how impactful that role was for his career and fans of the show. He's cool with it, because he knows that role was important to his fans, even if it isn't his most proud work. Steve is missing that entire outlook, and on top of that, he has a crappy attitude towards anything that has to do with his role as Trevor.
      I think people understand the logic behind his attitude, but Steve is too much of an a-hole about it all for people to sympathize with him like Office fans have with Rain Wilson.

    My biggest gripe with Steven Ogg is he said “I’m a actor” while basically dismissing a entire form of acting because the characters aren’t “real” as if any other character he’s played were more “real” just because they’re live action, his tv and movie characters are just as not real as Trevor but he still made them all real for the audience through the artform of acting just because Trevor is a animated character doesn’t make him a less real or less meaningful character than any other he’s played

MOST of the biggest VAs they've had, have done the job not really careing because they didnt look in to (or indeed know how big some games could get at the time), worked for a fixed amount and boom done. The games would come out, make MULTI millons of dorra then the VAs get uppity demanding more becaue "well they are worth it and the game wouldn't be as huge with out THEIR star power!" so rockstar started to deal with no names........ and here we are again XD but this time it's over being fed up with a roll that has created you, which again I find to be a bit pathetic. There is NO WAY IN HELL you can play a character like trevor and just expect for everyone to set it aside, he made too much noise.

    I think the issue here is that Ogg doesn't take video games as seriously as tv shows and movies. To him, games are cartoons and not worth the recognition, while live action performances should be recognized. It's an old-school mentality that used to be really huge back then. We saw it with Ray Liotta, who didn't understand nor care for his performance as Tommy Vercetti because it's a video game. All in all, I don't think he despises the performance that he did. He just doesn't understand it nor care for it the same way he understands and cares for his other acting roles. But, if he's hell-bent on not caring for it, he should at least make the effort to understand it. To see why this performance of his is so important to many. After all, it's what put him on the map.

    • @mijofalco6355
      @mijofalco6355 5 місяців тому +26

      @charliekelly735 Nah, he probably has that old-school mentality where cartoons are just like children's toys and thus a waste of time. Whereas live action tv shows and movies are real artistic works because they're tied to Hollywood blockbusters and showbusiness. Because that's a form of media that's been around for so long and represented by so many legendary cinematographers and celebrities, that it's been recognized by the mass media and publicities since forever. To him, that's what needs to be taken seriously. Not children's stuff. Even though, there's a plethora of cartoons and games out there that are definitely for adults and not children. That these forms of media have become just as big and important as live action media. But he clearly doesn't see nor understands that.

      Well you've gotta consider the difference. Lillard has done other stuff aside from Scooby-Doo and thus he gets approached for a variety of things, all while people respect that he's Matthew Lillard, the guy who plays Shaggy, Stu Macher, William Afton or whoever and not actually those characters. Same goes for Hayden Christensen. In fact, Hayden really wasn't doing so much acting after Star Wars and being in it was kind of rough given how people reacted to hiss portrayal of Anakin. It wasn't until years later where the heat died down and especially with Obi-Wan Kenobi that he really started embracing it, especially since again, a lot of people are respecting him as Hayden Christensen and not just calling him Anakin. With Steven Ogg? It's so frustrating to do acting gigs and get more opportunities because of GTA and then to have people not just only bring up Trevor but continuously ask him to be Trevor, to treat him like he's Trevor when he's a real human being has gotta be unbelievably frustrating, especially since with GTA's fanbase being quite young, it skews incredibly obnoxious.

    the problem is, Ogg was legit a nobody before, that game gave him what he has today. And his sour attitude, that's how you actually loose out on roles. Casting agencies look up people and see how they are, and all Ogg has to say is "oh yeah im not a gamer, but you know, these fans are passionate, they love the character, they love me, and that's pretty awesome." He has gone on record saying he's not a gamer but, its about how you handle that fame that came with you.
    As SWEGTA pointed out, Ogg didnt ride this fame really. If you know Henry Winkler, The Fonz himself, that roll got him eveyrthing, he always credits the Fonz for his career in Hollywood, which either in acting, writing, or directing. He says he never stops talking about the Fonz, he loves him and the fans. And Winkler is a really good actor, as is Ogg, but Ogg refuses to accept this game as part of him.
    And I get it too, some actors arent gamers, some actors don't want to be talked to or recognized, because, lets face it, some actors are WEIRD. We know this. Ogg just needs to embrace it and not do CAMEOS or go to any cons or press because, Trevor is what he will be asked about.

    Their relationship drama was so weird, he followed and unfollowed her and deleted his comments on her page. Her friends accused him of mentally abusing her. He no longer sees his son. His next girlfriend was a 21-year-old with severe mental issues, which lasted just months. He has also unfollowed and refollowed Ned and Shawn a few times. I think Steven Ogg is suffering from a certain old man syndrome which is not recognizing video games as an equal form of art as a proper film or a book or whatever. Maybe he thinks that because he is recognized mainly from a videogame it makes him lesser of an actor compared to other actors. It was the case with Andrzej Sapkowski, a certain ancient polish guy and writer responsible for The Witcher, that would frequently dismiss video games because as he infamously said, these are basically for children and idiots, for not a single serious intellectual would have a slightest interest in them. So he was almost offended that his works were acknowledged by the wider audience by something such childish and obviously lesser than his writing as videogames. These are the true boomers my guy, and they won't change. So the open headed and humble despite of his age Ned Luke deserves our approval! As a matter of fact he even streamed his playtrough of GTA 5 giving us a lot of behind the scenes feedback, and I recommend for everyone to check it out.

    In one way, I can fully understand Steven Ogg's frustration. It can become demoralizing if you get stuck being known for only one thing, and that thing is in a media that you have absolutely no interest in and don't believe is a big time thing. In another though, it was because of GTA V that people started to notice him in being able to play a specific type of character. Steve sadly couldn't accept that fact and it ultimately caused him to reject his claim to fame so hard that he's now villainizing himself with the fans that made Trevor his true breakout role. Without Trevor, Steve is just another actor who thinks he can do more than what he actually can.
