- I bought this hot dog making machine for £5.50 off of ebay! An absolute bargain.... or was it?! To be honest They normally retail at around £40+ and are tricky to get hold of these days, so this appeared like a bargain!

Barry if you want to give that hotdog gadget away how about giving Big Clive a call and send it to him, he can do a video on why it’s so dangerous
Next time go to a South African shop and buy Boerewors , will be the best Hotdog you ever have.
Did you have a subpanel or maybe GFCI outlets somewhere between your breaker box and kitchen? The answer should have been to flip a breaker for sure, but I saw the panel you showed was okay.
Don't think I've ever seen such thick hot dog buns or such skinny hot dogs in the US.
Plugging in something that draws enough current to need a 13 A fuse will burn a fuse with a max load of 3 A, it's just a question if it's a fast or slow burning fuse that determines how soon the fuse burns when the current passes that threshold.
Poor Mrs Barry. You can see the horror in her eyes that she is this close to having her dream home and along comes another grilled cheese sandwich maker.
Dream home vs hot dog, tough call.
I'd make him test them outside, he's a disaster magnet lol
The funniest bit for me is him getting the frying pan out for the onions, when he could have easily used that to heat up the fully cooked hotdogs he bought. Both the Herta and Unearthed are safe to eat straight from the packet. No idea why he thought they were semi-cooked or raw. Flicking matches at the buns would have done a better job of toasting them. I love these videos but it's almost always not about how bad the gadget is, it's about how Barry follows the instructions to the letter, but gets confused by the food.
Mrs Barry's horror at the loss of electrical power meaning no washing machine, "and I can't even go to my mum's", I was totally empathising with you at that point Mrs Barry, no hot water, fine, no cooker, that can be worked around, no fridge freezer, just keep the door shut and eat everything in 2 days, Hand washing clothes for 4 people in a sink that is the size of a large mixing bowl.. AAAARRGH ! Electrically I hope you will have the kitchen on a separate loop to the utility room Barry, it will lower Mrs Barry's stress levels 😃
@@mistywolf312 Barry needs his own electrical circuit!
Therapist: "And what brings you here today?"
Mrs. Barry: "He can't stop putting sausages in silly machines that explode in my kitchen"
Underated comment.
"All he thinks about is hotdogs and asking do you want a hotdog?"
@@jamiegriffin-smith9931 "and don't even get me started on what he tried to do with the microwave...too many things going boom!".
@@SimonMetin If the hotdogs tasted good thats all that matters right?? Right!!
I actually yelled "NO DONT!" at my screen when the lights went out and Barry moved it to another socket haha.
LordDragox412 You *can* do that, but a tripped breaker is usually a sign that there’s something wrong with your wiring, or with the device you’ve got plugged in, doesn’t it? Why mess around when it’s just for a video that you can do later (if at all) when things are sorted?
Kind of like John Hurt's character leaning over the newly opened egg in the film _Alien_ :-)
Huge props to Mrs Barry for letting you keep filming.
"This thing blows all circuits it touches. Let's keep plugging it in!" good work
Honestly, at least the other failure gadgets (esp the ones that caught fire) tended to stay self-contained. Whereas with this one, when it fails it takes the entire house down with it
I was clenching my butt a bit about that, but at least it was entertaining!
@Lassi Kinnunen yes UK plugs do. But if it pulled more than the fuse is rated for then the fuse should blow rather than trip one of the circuit breakers. A 13A fuse (which is should have installed) is enough for a 2kw fan heater though, so should be plenty for something like this. Possible that the entire circuit was overloaded but more likely some sort of internal fault with the product. Because it only had a 3A fuse in I'd expect that to blow long before a circuit breaker.
@@archaon8853 yeah probably a live neutral fault or live earth fault probably the only reasons the RCD would trip
@@archaon8853 RCD would trip before the fuse. Modern ones are incredibly quick.
"Who opens a box like that"
People who go in retail stores and either want to look at something or steal it because the picture and specs on the box aren't good enough for them.
By the way, anyone reading this that is one of those people, you're worse than a Karen.
I worked returns at Wal-Mart, and you'd be amazed the lengths ppl go through to get rid of faulty products. Some will buy a new more expensive item, take it home, open the box carefully (like from the bottom), switch the new with the cheaper old, then return it looking unopened. Usually saying they bought the wrong one, or something along those lines. Box looks unopened, so its taken back and sometimes put back on the shelf
Yeah not a cool thing to do at all!
@@Mike_Toulon Or in this case the previous owners of the toaster opened the box, tried it and it turns out it burned down their fuses as well and send it back like it was never used.
😁
@@Mike_Toulon i hope they'll start using something to check these unopened boxex(maybe x-rays like in aiports or something like that)
I think Mrs B needs to confiscate your eBay account for the safety of her new house
Her new house? Doesn't it belong to both of them?
I love that there's a flashback of the American Cheese Grill Toaster fiasco in every video you post.
"Oh, it's on fire." lol
Barry: "it's like a bomb"
Also Barry: *Leans in closer*
Send it to bigclive!
When pulling the door open, that metal rack lowers, I recon the rack has hit the element at the bottom & shorted the machine out.
So when it came to putting the par cooked roll in the oven didn't work after.
I think your onto something there mate
That didn't happen the first time the power cut out though, only the second. I think it's just a faulty device.
Why do I feel Big Clive is watching this and laughing?
Of course he is he mentioned about the cheese toastie In one of his videos so he is bound to be
Time to break out the hopi.
Your "never been opened" hotdog toaster, clearly looks "opened and used" mate lol..
how could you plug it back in after it tripped out the electric?!? I do not have your courage Barry 🥴
Was it courage or did he have a moment of massive stupidity? I vote a surge of stupidity.
You're gonna need to build a concrete bunker with it's own separate electrical source to test dodgey electronics lol
I'm only a few minutes in and I'm already getting Grilled Cheese Toaster flashbacks...
Your not cooking anymore right?
😂 ms.lewis just wants to have a normal house without everything blowing up in the process.
The chemicals in the electrical cable often react with the polystyrene foam packaging. That's what the crusty stuff was on the cable, polystyrene that had stuck to it.
You could try to keep the top lid closed to help steam up the bun. Baking-ish things don't happen with open doors as much.
I love that even though it blew the fuses you just carry on 🤣
The stuff on the cable was probably from the polystyrene packaging that is why the cables are usually in bags
Poor Mrs B, what she has to put up with - why, though, keeping using it when it was killing you electricity?
It's ironic isn't it? He needs to complete the UA-cam video by potentially starting an electric kitchen fire to pay for his electricity bill.
My Guess is that It was used and came to the original seller with the fuse damaged and they put a 3amp fuse in it thinking it is considered a small appliance. I think if you replace the fuse with the spesified 13 amp fuse it will work and stop tripping your outlets.
"the good thing is, this thing is trying to kill us -- wait that's not the good thing about it"
"this thing's a bargain! only 5 pound 50 and it'll burn your house down!"
lmfaoooooo lots of good quotes in this one. you guys had a good attitude about it lol!!
If that thing is on a 3A slow fuse instead of a 13A fast fuse, then that is what is basically going to happen when you plug it in, might also not come up to temperature. I have not read the Instuctions, but sometimes when i device like that isn't getting enough power it will not completely turn on, i.e. the eating element for the toaster part, might be trying to turn on and popping the fuse in the central conduit. Try using a proper 13A fuse and it might just work like advertised. P.S. as someone who works in retail, that thing has def. been opened.
Damn 1st times cuts out lights and some sockets 2nd time cut all electric off from the house and barry is like ok just 1 more time i would be laughing aswell gotta love barry and mrs barry
Barry Lewis you should try any gadgets in a surge protected extension or plug adapter you can get them in argos or b&q ect
The white stuff on the cable is caused by the polystyrene touching the cable because they react
And what would cause polystyrene touching the cable?
When we made hot dogs in our store, we turned on the rollers beforehand to get them preheated.
when plasticizer and styrofoam react the result is the white stuff on the powercable
Mrs B deserves a medal for letting you try that thing again!
Oh no Barry be careful with the new kitchen poor Mrs Barry was having toaster flashbacks from the kitchen in your old house!....As always another great video, hope you found the source of the electric issue 👍👍
Bary, if you close the lid it holds the heat inside which then helps to warm the bread below, if the meat is raw you keep the lid open to prevent any raw meat juice/ stuff potentially dripping down in your buns
Um maybe next time
You get a gadget on eBay buy one of those plug in circuit breakers (like they use for lawnmowers etc). That'll blow before the house. Funny though (cos it wasn't me 😁)
@@Okurka. Yes they do. But sometimes a surge may not be long enough in duration as to blow the plug fuse. This is one such case (a lawn mower quickly cutting an electrical cable is another where the blade may only cause a short circuit for a fraction of a second) RCDs and MCB circuit breakers react quicker than wire fuses.
It may or may not trip first. In my experience they'll both go (if we're talking about RCDs).
Well this was possibly the most funny Barry Lewis video I have ever seen Ms Barry was in a panick and Barry just wanted some hot dogs and the kids want their WiFi
its the curse of the toaster. you arent allowed to use a toaster, it always ends in tears.
At least you know what the switches in that fuse box do now 👍
Another fine Bluth Company product!
A 3 Amp fuse means if it drew more than 3 amps (690 Watts) it would break the fuse and cut the power.
Was there tintoil on the fuse? It's likely someone modified it to bypass the fuse since the unit spec says 1200 Watts which should have destroyed the fuse.
Barry's next kitchen gadget test is a fire extinguisher...
When the sockets went, I was in stitches 😂😂 love your videos Barry!
A 3A fuse is insufficient which is why your whole house cut out instead of the just the fuse like a suitable fuse is meant to. If you put a 13A fuse in the socket then it shouldnt cut out!
The box had been opened from the bottom. You can see a crease and a little tear in one of the flaps at 2:30.
thats what I thought when he showed the bottom of the box, was way to easy to open from there
Barry is doing a food gadget video and Mrs B has dinner on the go anyway, that's experience right there!
Edit: yeah I wrote that too soon haha hope your dinner wasn't ruined with the electric issues
Given that the bun toaster did toast the first buns but didn't have any impact on the capsicum and par-baked bread in the second part, I think that it was the toaster function that was faulty and blew your power when it died for good.
Not me screaming out “why are you not using a surge protector” after the second power outage.
Lol, just pull the plug on the hotdog maker and flip the switch in the fusebox.
Panicing about a blown fuse haha.
Personally if I was making a hot dog maker I'd adjust it a bit, I'd have the rollers running parallel to the buns, somehow have it that the dogs would cook and when ready the rollers would spread a bit to release the hot into the dog (lol). How brilliant that would be, a no nonsense all in one hot dog making beast!
I'm no electrician, but the 3Amp fuse is likely what's causing your electrics to trip when it blows. If it has the right fuse then it won't blow and your electrics wont trip. 3amp seems a little low for a cooker. 3amp at 230v is just shy of 700watts. If it's pulling more than that, then it will blow the fuse.
it didnt blow the fuse though. it tripped the main breaker.
Barry, the guy with more video endings than actual videos 😃
While cooking did u close to plastic lid to keep heat In ? Seemed it was open all the time. Surely keep it closed to heat the bread.
Omg is everything OK with your electrical. I'm kind of freaking out lol
Incredible how people invent things to cure problems that don't exist. Honestly , does anyone need this ??
I'm pretty sure if that machine had been able to produce enough heat to cook the onions, it would have set itself on fire, so probably raw onions were the best possible outcome.
Barry! What did you do! As I was watching this, my whole apartment hit a power surge....
as the power tripped when you opened the oven door I would suspect that a wire is shorting out and the breaker board trips.
You poor thing barry. Hope you are ok. Love the video
Similar thing happened to me after a meal out, where i want to make some toast, and ended up blowing the electrics of my entire house
Honestly, I suspect the electrical fault was in the bun warmer, specifically in the door, since while you didn't show the first power cut, on the second it happened as you opened it and the metal tray shuffled forwards. I suspect there's not enough clearance between the heating elements and the tray itself, and the tray is bridging a circuit, which is supported by the bun-warmer not having ANY heat except what comes from the rollers above
Oh gods, and then there's a bad fuse in it?!?
There's no heating element in the 'oven', why on earth would you think you could cook in it? The heat is coming from the rollers which is just supposed to warm the buns through.
You need some North American style hot dogs for your gizmo... they are about the size of the ones you used but slightly thicker. And you need “New England style” hot dog buns... then you would fit 4 in... but you may not get those in GB
when I saw the thumbnail I thought it was some kind of 3D printer... a 3D printer that made food for you lol that would be amazing
So, what actually happened? Did the fuse in the plug blow? It's concerning that it caused your lights and other sockets to stop working but didn't trip anything.
I feel ya Barry... I had to pause this video because there was a thunderstorm and our power went out...
Hot dog buns in America are tiny four of them would fit in there hot dogs come by sizes starting with 2 to the pound 4 to the pound 8 to the pound most hot dog restaurants sell eight a pound
Poor Barry he must of been in the dog house that night. 😂
Seeing This title i am hoping for a grilled cheese sandwich style video
yeah a 3 amp when it's suppose to have a 13 amp, means either the manufacturer messed up or the person lied and they had tried it and blew the original amp and just in whatever they had around
still, if they put a 3amp in then that would have been what blew before it tripped the house fuse. so them saying it needs a 13 amp sounds dodgy, if it runs at all on a 3amp then thats all it needs. this seems like a chinese piece of plastic tat that probably got a short somewhere on it which when its got exposed metal heating components is very worrying
"I don't want to put any tongues near that" that's why it blows the fuses, so you can get the dogs out safely 😂
Did you send this to Big Clive, no wonder this one popped a breaker, probably has some faulty or seeping components.
American here with a question: Your fridge brand is Smeg? Have you seen Red Dwarf, please tell me you know where I am going with this...
Your circuit box might not hold enough power to be able to use the hot dog maker. Too many things may be plugged in at once. May have way too much running on one line. You also might want to get surge protectors just in case if you lose power again
I'd like a quote from Mrs. B on a scale from 1 to 10, how much worried she was about the washing machine and the fridge, although it's clear she almost lost it :P
And please Barry, next time you use a sketchy device from eBay, please contact someone like Big Clive first, it'd be a livesaver :P
Read instructions: Pffh, nah.
Overload the socket and nearly burn the house down: Yeah baby!
And as a German, I actually have bratwurst in the fridge and I think I'll make it in the airfryer tonight (I think every other German reading this is going to gasp and some will have a heart attack, but it works really well).
Mrs. barry is absolutely adorable! You are a lucky fella, Barry. Beautiful wife and family! 🙂
Overloaded one side of the ringmain? May be due to the break in it where that socket is missing.
Keeps blowing the electrics and keeps it plugged in 😂😂
When something blows fuses, you know you got too many appliances on a single circuit.
No fuses blew. It was an RCD tripping.
Wait what amazing Seal video was he referring to??!
I bet it costed more to call the electrician than to buy the bloody thing. lol
You should send it to big clive so he can look at it and see why its doing what its doing
Mrs B is a Saint
This episode: sponsored by Weetos and the RCD switch
Why would you not check if the rcd has tripped straight away?
Is the whole reason that things weren't cooking in the 'oven' because it isn't actually an oven? Isn't it just to warm the rolls?
Sideburns, Moustache, Goatee.
Maybe All Three?
I like that you think a bun warmer will get hot enough to cook those veg xD.
you should ask fir a refund because that toaster was used, its impossible that the plastic wrapper was not in place wrapping the toaster, someone has tampered with the box, as you can see when you show us the bottom. I think that the seller got a new one that was working, opened the box from the bottom, took out the new toaster, and swapped it with the faulty one, and didn't care about the internal packaging. Like the white polystyrene that it should have to bits, one on either side and the plastic wrapping the whole unit, and not just laid on top, the unit was laying the wrong way round, as we saw that you had to flip it, and that toaster costs around 50, so you should have some bells ringing when you saw it selling for only 5pounds, too good to be true.
Maybe Mrs B should do the testing
this has DEFINETLY been used
You should definitely send this to @bigclivedotcom
The old hot dog toaster burned the buns because you're using top-sliced.
At the very end with the kebab there is a little moisture on the lens and it makes it look like you are trying to sensor the kebab which... isn't a great look.
Lol yes!
Oh dear, oh dear Barry. Next time immediately unplug whatever you’re using when the circuit trips and stop using the blasted thing!
Unfortunately, in America our buns are a lot thinner than the ones you put in there. Maybe 1/3 smaller. LOL. Oh no, it killed your kitchen.
Send the hot dog maker to @bigclivedotcom for an autopsy!
This is nearly as bad as the yellow cheese toaster incident 😳
and that's why you shouldn't trust cheap stuff on ebay... lol
Oh robot Wars!!!!!!!!!!
When I see videos like this, I can't help thinking back to Some Mothers Do Ave Em. Barry is obviously Frank with Mrs B as poor Betty. I mean Betty/Becky are quite similar.
