  • Have you tried pier fishing in a storm before? Fishing in a storm is not always our favorite condition to fish. We are pier fishing tonight using small plastic gulp lures on jigheads. We like using the smaller lures and ultralight lines to catch fish in quantity vs quality. (Although we were catching some pretty quality white perch!)Tonight we have a secret weapon. It is what we call “fish kryptonite”.
We are staying at a hotel with our new friends and we have got a private pier! Watch us test out the mysterious green underwater kyrptonite!

I was about an hour from home and 30 minutes from shore when a popup thunderstorm hit. I made it to the bank to wait it out so i was bored waiting on the storm to pass. I dropped a line and it didnt even settle before i had a fish on. this continued as long as the storm did and as soon as the sun popped out, the bites stopped. I went home with a wet butt and a ton of fish. good times.

My experience with fishing during a storm is that it brings them in. For example, a trout honeyhole that I fish does awesome in spring and fall, because the water temps are cooler at the surface than in summer time (supposedly the trout like ~52 F). Flies work great there, because they are not bottom feeders. Anyways, during a rain storm in summer, Im able to catch those trout with flies because they come up to the surface when the rain cools off the higher temp waters.
Again, I can't really prove this scientifically speaking, but it's what I've experienced with fishing during a storm.

Fluke/Flounder/Weakfish are fish that respond well to low barometric pressure (times like storms). Stripers, bluefish, and pelagic species for example tend to become difficult to catch in low pressure systems.

Actually depends in the area if many different fishes around. And before or after the Storm comes the fishes scatters many sizes. I did fished with my friends and we have caught Groupers and Yellow fin Snappers. Its pretty expensive fishes in HK. Stay safe and have a happy fishing day.

I live in Maine and in my experience storms kick up water run off that often provide food fish as well as blocking out some of the sun light to provide more cover for predatory fish.

Fascinating... The first few dives with my prototype lander I had ziptied some green glow sticks to it, later models had their own lights so I never used the glow sticks again... I might have to revisit this, esp during any night dives...

This absolutely works. When I fish from the pier at night I hang my lantern a few inches above the water and tear em up. We also use lights on our boat. I have flood lights all around it.

Before a storm the atmospheric pressure drops below the normal amount (~30 inHg). The decrease in pressure triggers the fish to eat more. The low pressure system should carry out through the entirety of the storm. That's why a lot of times you might catch more on a gloomy, overcast day.
    Cheers😊

Every single fish has a swim bladder, some will call them air bladders. Think of them as little buoyancy swim balloons that allow fish to swim straight, not sink or float etc. Anyway This is where a fish will first begin to experience discomfort from a drop in barometric or “atmospheric pressure” most commonly associated with an incoming storm; beginning around 24-36 hours prior to the storm fronts actual arrival. This is the window for some awesome fishing. Because In response to this discomfort, cause by the drop in pressure larger fish will head to deeper water while smaller may head to shallower areas in order to adjust to the new pressure and wait out the storm, however just prior to as well as while embarking on their efforts to relieve their discomfort they will ravenously feed! Some say it’s because the fish is unsure as to how long the discomfort/storm will last, others say it’s because the fish is unsure if there will be food when they get to the location of relief.. All I know is the bite is most definitely better/amazing the day before a storm. It’s like clockwork and doesn’t require a hurricane, a decent thunderstorm will set Em off. If you live near water get yourself a barometer or download an app, it’s worth it. Living in Florida, Irma was a hell of a storm but damn was the fishing good. I always fish grass flats with clear shots to deeper channels/water ways during this time. Great for massive reds, trout, jacks, blues, even the occasional tarpon. Anyway, dig your guys videos. Keep doing what your doing!

The storm stirs up the bottom. The sea worms and shellfish start moving. The bottom dwellers feed on them and inturn the predator fish feed on the bottom dwellers. The light does work. I have had one for about 12 years that I use for crappie, white perch and stripped bass on Kerr and Gaston Lakes. Too much fun.

From my experience, when it comes to storms it all has to down with a low pressure system. If the Barometric pressure is dropping fish go dormant. If it's just a big rain event, the rain oxygenates the water and stimulates feeding . Now after the rain if the temperature drops significantly this will reduce fish activity.

Yeah I bought some light online too , under $20, and the biggest issues with these cheaper lights is , the seal is not always good , so right away when I got mine , I went back and silicone the end caps and where the cord goes in .
Had mine in water 2 weeks straight , no issues
Of course I think you're suppose to have it on a timer for at lest 3-4 days to gradually attract baits , before the bigger fish will show up . Unless it's a establish fish area already

It's the changes in barometric pressure that gets the fish biting or getting lockjaw. Falling barometer usually means good fishing and rising barometer usually means slower fishing. The fish seem to know that bad weather is coming and it's a good idea to have a full belly before that weather sets in. Given that, finding the fish makes all the difference. There might be a falling barometer but if you are not on the fish you certainly wont catch them.

Fishing during a storm is counterproductive. You'll get more bites than normal, but then you have to deal with the weather, and possibly lightning strikes or in worst case, tornadoes. In my experience the best time to fish is within 4 hours after a heavy storm, especially after a tornado or extremely high winds. It stirs up the water and also flings insects on top of the water, causing a feeding frenzy that lasts for many hours.
