Spanishland School Hola! I discovered your channel while researching direct and indirect object pronoun placement, and I really enjoyed your video on this topic! So I decided to watch your other videos as well. But now I am confused and hope you can help me. I will try to word the Spanish sentences correctly and hope you will please forgive my mistakes. I am still new at this. :) In the sentence, "I am buying a gift for you" (Compro un regalo para ti), would "ti" be an object of the preposition here? And could this also be phrased in Spanish as, "I am buying you a gift" (Te compro un regalo)? If so, would "te" be an indirect object here? One more question: If I wanted to express this using both pronouns, would it also work to say, "Te lo compro"? If so, would "te" be the indirect object pronoun and "lo" be the direct object pronoun to replace "a gift"? I hope that made sense. Gracias!
I love it that you speak in Spanish while giving your lessons!! It's like having a Spanish listening activity and learning rules and tips at the same time.

This is perhaps the best explanation of the usage of these two words. As someone who has studied Spanish for a long time -- and tried many UA-cam videos -- Spanishland is the best for explaining and breaking down the grammar.
Hi Mark, thank you so much. I am happy to be able to help whenever I can. Remember you can always give us ideas for new videos if there's something in particular you'd liked explained.
This is the best lesson I've ever had about por vs. para. Had some real lightbulb moments listening to this lesson.I still remember the best tip I ever got from one of my Spanish teachers -- para is almost never used, so focus on it. I think it's something as dramatic as an 80/20 common usage split between the two. So she had the case uses for para drilled into us, leaving every other situation to be por. But now that I'm living in Spanish daily, I want to understand the why of what I'm doing, and this is where this video is great. In the first example of motivo versus objectivo, this FINALLY clicked! it's really a case of past and future! In the first one, something in my past made me seek out a safer city. In the second one, I was looking ahead to discovering the cuisine of my new city.
glad i found this three years later - its the first time this is clear to me, and i have watched so many vids about por and para - now all i have to do is practice it - very good work girl

Hi, thank you! Here's an article from our website where you may find more answers on this subject. spanishlandschool.com/?s=por+vs.+para I hope it helps!
Hola Andrea! Thank you for your nice videos. I like how you make them entertaining. One thing I am confused about in this video is the difference between motivo y objetivo. They sound very similar kind of ideas to me. You gave us the following as an example for objetivo: "Yo estudio espanol PARA hablar con mi familia latina" But to me, it is my motivation (motivo) to talk with the latin family as well as my objective. Could you please clarify this? Gracias!
Thank you for your comment and your observation. Sometimes it can be hard to decide which one to use ("por" or "para") because like you said, the motive and the objective can be the same thing. The best way to decide is taking into consideration the fact that there is a verb, "hablar", so it doesn't sound right to use "por" and then a verb. Remember this. "Por" cannot be followed by a verb. "Para" is followed by a verb. So there is your answer :) I hope this helps!

Great video! I'm a bit confused though. Is it sometimes possible to use either "por" or "para" but depending on what you choose it'll change the meaning? For example if you say "I will visit you for your birthday" is the birthday the reason for the visit ? or it could be the objective to be there for the birthday ? I'm not sure my question makes sense ^^ Great video!
Thanks for your comment and yes, your question makes sense :) In this case, the birthday would be the reason. In this case you would say "estaré allá por tu cumpleaños" because the person's birthday is what is causing you to go there, so that is the reason why you're going to that place, therefore you use "por". Hope this helps!
¡Hola! I downloaded the cheat sheet and in the common mistakes i see gracias followed by "por". Is this the rule, does "gracias" ALWAYS takes "por", even if a verb follows. Por ejemplo: Gracias POR enseñarnos español?
Hi Georgette! A great use of your time I believe! :) I'm happy you found us, welcome!
"aca" and "aqui" mean pretty much the same, but yes, there is a small difference between the 2 of them: "Aqui" means here. Let's say you are watching Tv and you are looking for the remote. You would ask: A: Donde esta el control?. And your sister, would say soemthing like: B: Aqui! Yo lo estaba usando (This means it was excatly in the same place where she was). But if she had said B: Aca, mira, encima de la mesa (While pointing at it) See so in this case it was not exactly in her place but near. It's simple: If you need to point at the object or place just say "aca" but if it is right where you are say "aqui"
*But I mean when you point at something that is close/ near (maximum 1 meter distance from you) If it is further than that then you would say: allá. Same thing with "por aqui" and "por aca" A: Disculpe, donde esta el banco B: Esta por aqui (si estas en el mismo sitio/ direccion) B: Esta por aca, pero no se muy bien donde (It's like saying: it's around here but I am not sure where) PERO: en un restaurante es muy comun que escuches al mesero decir: Siganme, por aqui! o Siganme, por aca! (In this case they mean the same but just because it became an expression to be used in that context)
HOLA.

Muchas gracias :)
De nada :)
Finally, assigned spanish listening practice that isn't speaking at 5000 words per second
There are a lot more where that one came from! Keep on watching and learning with us :)
It's quite impressive how much you have learned in such a short time.
The answer to your question is YES. Even Gracias POR + verb
I hope this helps! Keep on learning and watching with us! Let us know if you have any suggestion for a video. Thank you for being part of our community!
@@SpanishlandSchool Gracias POR respoder!
What really helps me learning fast is watching series/movies/telenovelas/interviews/shows, anything in spanish with spanish subtitles instead of subtitles in my language. I find it a super fast way to learn! Sometimes your videos help me understand the things i hear and some other times i hear the things i learn from your videos! I love being a part of your community, i am so happy i found you! I learn so much from your videos and thank you for always answering to my questions, teacher! :D
for frecuencia: i'm not used to using "por" as in English usually we would use "a" is "voy a correr tres veces un semana" un error?
Hi Zhulia. Yes, that is not correct. The correct sentence is: Voy a correr tres veces por semana. Keep practicing! :)
maybe a video on aca vs aqui and por aca por ahi ? it can be confusing somethings... thanks in advance!
"aca" and "aqui" mean pretty much the same, but yes, there is a small difference between the 2 of them:
"Aqui" means here. Let's say you are watching Tv and you are looking for the remote. You would ask:
A: Donde esta el control?. And your sister, would say soemthing like:
B: Aqui! Yo lo estaba usando (This means it was excatly in the same place where she was). But if she had said
B: Aca, mira, encima de la mesa (While pointing at it) See so in this case it was not exactly in her place but near.
It's simple: If you need to point at the object or place just say "aca" but if it is right where you are say "aqui"
*But I mean when you point at something that is close/ near (maximum 1 meter distance from you) If it is further than that then you would say: allá.
Same thing with "por aqui" and "por aca"
It's like saying: it's around here but I am not sure where)
(In this case they mean the same but just because it became an expression to be used in that context)
muchas gracias por su explicacion. its makes a lot more sense now!
Jaja. Suena impresionante!
Jajaja qué interesante, gracias por tu comentario.
Can we say: “Ella se casó con un americano por papeles” o para papeles no por amor o dinero? Thanks for your great video!
Hi! In that case it would be POR papeles. Thanks for watching!
No por amor. Thanks
Andrea can you send me the PDF because the video all these days is loading
Hi Aisha, can you email me this request? Thank you!
HOLA.
@@gamerkid119 Muchas, muchas gracias maestra!
Por un motivo vs Para un objectivo: very confusing since, at least to me, a motive can be an objective and visa versa ???
Hi Michael, I can see how this can get a bit confusing. Here's an article from our site, maybe it will help you with this matter: spanishlandschool.com/por-vs-para/#more-4867
. Very weird.
Peru is the destination of where you are going. That is the reason to use -- para--
Video not working for me, 10 seconds then buffering ?
Hi Edward. Did it eventually work? I'm not sure why it wouldn't..
