Just want to share my story about these fantastic picks. I started playing guitar earlier this week and was really struggling to play Smoke on the Water. Well, I just tried these picks today and now I can play Dance of Eternity backwards at 300 BPM! Thanks Dunlop!
you just started playing guitar and now you can play a song backwards???? I've played for two weeks now, and all I can do are a few guitar riffs and guitar solos because plucking is easy for me, and I still have a hard time properly barring the strings when doing a chord like F, and I still have to learn how to play power chords properly. HOW???????????????
I accidentally found it in a music store, while searching for alternate picks. I’m neither a Dream Theater nor a Petrucci fan, but it’s my current favorite pick!
I just got a 3 pack of these to try them. My favorite picks so far and my Dunlop Delrin 2.0mm I've used for years are resting for now. These really do everything John said. I've always struggled with alternate picking and these have helped a lot.
I got these for Christmas, and now use them in all my videos. They glide off the string and have a bite at the same time. Speed picking, funk picking, you name it - this pick does it like no other!
I freaking LOVE this pick, but I'd really LOVE that the white version would be released for sale! It would perfectly fit any guitar with white pickups!
UA-cam is creating a lot of that lately. I also find a lot of the so called experts on UA-cam will come across an idea, whether it's a pick, or a way to set your delay, and magically it's a brand new amazing discovery, even if the idea has been around for a long time, and for most of us, just basic guitar knowledge. I've found UA-cam is mostly aimed at new/amateur players who are still in full discovery mode, buying up everything that they think may make them a better player. That goes for the majority of the UA-cam content creators too. It's crazy good marketing. All the $ is made there. Those of us that have discovered what works generally stop constantly searching for the new magic pedal and focus more on proper practice, trying to make the next hour of playing as effective as possible. I also find that great educators for guitar are few and far between on UA-cam. Though there are some amazing lessons on here, if you take the time to search for them. Sadly, time away from playing and practicing. For any of you new players out there. I strongly recommend buying and playing lots of picks. It's amazing how many times can be created with just changing the pick. You may even play a little differently, which creates new inspiration. And compared to pedals and software plugins, picks are far less expensive, from 50cents to $30. It's an inexpensive way to tone chase, and fun to research what your heros use, and may help you see why they play like they do. Good luck
He has two sig picks already, a regular one and a primetone. Both of which are awesome. JP is the ultimate gear geek, so he's always tweaking stuff. I'm waiting for his signature strings, I think that's the only thing left for him!
They are made from Ultex, which is a more modern/more durable material. and they are 2.0mm I think the Primetone and Raised shield ones are in the 1.44mm range. My Flow picks should arrive today so I'll let you know how they perform.
He must have been at "Django a GoGo" at Carnegie Hall in March 2017, which was a freaking amazing show. Glad to see amazing gypsy guitarisrs like Stephane Wrembel and Stochelo Rosenberg have an influence on JP.
I saw this video the day it came out (March 26, 2018) and I found one of John's Flow picks on the floor of my local Guitar Center later that day. Was that fate? Coincidence? Something else? Who knows! All I know is I'm glad I found that pick; still use it over four years later.
actually, this pick really works .. from transitioning in using JP Dunlop Jazz III into Dunlop Flow Pick .. i can notice lots of improvement between my shredding , notes-articulation and overall sound of my playing ... this is not a joke or commercial scheme..
I get a very sweet tone to my single notes super clean and fast with the thicker picks with the rounded edges. But I use a really thin one for tracking rhythms
Damn you Andy James! Andy gave me one of his signature picks at NAMM recently and I too have been converted. I've been playing with that one pick for a couple of months now. I hope I can get some more before I finally lose it.
Was just about to try a set of Winspears but may try these first considering they’ll be way cheaper. I love the old JP jazz and my go-to is still the Ultex jazz 2.0 so i’d love to give these a spin
I wonder how it compares to the prime tone picks...those have been my go-to for awhile because they last for weeks, even months. Me personally that’s what I want in a pick, something that lasts. I hope to try this new one out soon though! It looks great, size wise and thickness wise too.
I don't think anything's gonna get me to switch from the max grip jazz III's but I'm always excited to try out a new Petrucci pick, the old Petrucci picks never did it for me, if I angled my finger wrong when playing they'd fly out of my hand. Edit: Out of curiosity I went and tried one of the old Petrucci picks (the black JP shield ones) and played some of the cleanest leads I've ever played, maybe my picking technique's improved and they won't fly out of my hand, who knows.
Started with 208s 23 years ago, went to 1.5mm Sharps, down to J3 tortex 1.14 and now you want m etc go back up??? WTF..... But yeah, those 208 glide....
This pick is really good. The shape is near to perfection. Maybe I'll make one from agate or opal for more mass and put a little bit more size on it and see what comes out
I will be surprised if it will outdo Blue Chip picks. I discovered the 1.5mm T5 to be best for me ... but yeah ... pick choice is subjective. Perhaps I’ll try Petrucci’s suggestion some day.
Though John Petrucci mentioned about gypsy jazz picks, I have to say the thicker picks at 0:37 is extremely hard to play on gypsy guitars I'd rather spend 20 times more to buy a Wegen
have you tried to play without the point just using one of the sides ???? got so used to it that I cannot use the pointy side anymore dunlop jelly serie the yellow ones XH are great but when you drop them on the carpet they vanish looks like they don't want you to find them camo picks LOL thanks for sharing :)
Sort of reminds me of 'Blue Chip Picks' 'BC Jazz Model'. A great pick but 30 bucks a piece. Kind of like the Red Bear pick idea. Thicker picks sound warmer with a softer attack. I always thought Andy James had terrible tone though, very shrill and harsh.
I love this pic! I've been using it for a while now. The only thing I didn't liked about it is that, the Majesty logo and his signature wears off with the use. /:
If this pick is too fluid, it's really easy to sand down and make sharper. The grip was awesome but it's just do fluid it couldn't grip the string as my a as I liked and didn't have enough of a sharp attack. It was also pretty decent to pick leads fast, but was way too buttery for rhythm.
the older petrucci signatures are basically just slightly larger jazz iii's with a slightly better grip. the size is midway between the jazz iii and jazz xl's. i like 'em.
The Petrucci version of a Jazz III is a little bigger, but not much, and I feel like it glides off the strings better/more easily than a regular Jazz III, and being a bit bigger it was more comfortable for me, personally.
I think they are very comfortable but for me, they make a horrible scratching sound on the high strings. Just FYI. Trinity picks make significantly less noise on high strings.
I bought one, expensive af but the holofoil sticker peeled off of both sides in a week, not worth it for a piece of plastic, a big stubby nylon or V Pick Traditional are pretty similar in sound and feel
I bought a set (3) at the G3 concert last month. Has a small metal box included. Thinner than my usual Wegen (2.5mm), sharper edges. Very crisp sound. Really thought they were just a fun souvenir, not an advance sale!
Finally, a petrucci signature i can afford
😂😂😂😂 IKR? Though to be honest, John's Sterling by MusicMan guitars cost between $500 and $900; reasonable prices for most players.
Ify pal
Omfg your awesome.
but it will faded away the more you use it, or mine was fake one
I still can't
Just want to share my story about these fantastic picks. I started playing guitar earlier this week and was really struggling to play Smoke on the Water. Well, I just tried these picks today and now I can play Dance of Eternity backwards at 300 BPM! Thanks Dunlop!
Lmao, noice
Lmao of eternity!
Highly unlikely. However, since I don't have proof of you not doing it I'm going to have to give it to you!

HOW???????????????
Lunar Scorpio how do you not realize that his comment was a joke??
It's not just a piece of plastic ... it's divine intervention ...
and perhaps dildo insertion? i apologize for that..
how poetically correct of you ..
Are you Kevin Moores brother?
"My friend Andy James...." Of course they're friends...
I think John is friends with *all* the shred guys... except me of course. Because I'm not famous yet 😂
My arms grew back after using these picks. Highly recommended.
I accidentally found it in a music store, while searching for alternate picks. I’m neither a Dream Theater nor a Petrucci fan, but it’s my current favorite pick!

FROM WHENCE YOU CAME YOU SHALL REMAIN UNTIL YOU ARE COMPLETE AGAINNNNNNNNNN!!
I love John Petrucci 1.5mm pick tones. The best ever!!
can it withstand the temperature of the sun?
Depends, can you play a billion notes per second and do you have a diet consisting of small mammals?
It withstands John Petrucci so I guess the sun is no match for this pick
If it can handle John Petrucci it can handle anything
t h i c c p i c c
I freaking LOVE this pick, but I'd really LOVE that the white version would be released for sale! It would perfectly fit any guitar with white pickups!
I can confirm these picks are amazing.
These are cool picks ... I can testify. I love em' and my Zenfire picks too.
When he said Oh my God he was referring to himself.
stfu blind fanboy
@@johnvincent1823 its a joke idiot
Thick pick. Something I started using YEARS ago...JP comes along and decides to do it, instant revelation for the guitar community! LOL

I play with jazz III JP. I wonder if I would change. I found myself in that pick.
Amen!
Maycon Douglas Santos Barros I find that bigger picks are better for soloing and I use the jazz III JP’s for rhythm
Maycon Douglas Santos Barros I used to use jazz III minis all the time but I now play with much larger picks
you could hand him a random rock you've found on the sidewalk and he would still shred with and make it sound great lol
After trying different materials, I must say stone picks are the best.
I love this pick I have the John petrucci jazz iii and I love that pick too.
As a big fan of his previous 2, i can't wait to try these 😌
You won't be disappointed, the JP Flow is - in my opinion - better than John's other picks.
Didn't John just have a new signature pick come out a year back, or so?
He has a new signature guitar like every week or so.
JP the apple of the guitar accessory world !
He has two sig picks already, a regular one and a primetone. Both of which are awesome. JP is the ultimate gear geek, so he's always tweaking stuff. I'm waiting for his signature strings, I think that's the only thing left for him!
How does this new Flow pick differ to his ones with the raised JP? I just got them and they are the goods!!
They are made from Ultex, which is a more modern/more durable material. and they are 2.0mm I think the Primetone and Raised shield ones are in the 1.44mm range. My Flow picks should arrive today so I'll let you know how they perform.
I never thought I would be able to afford a John Petrucci, until now....
Glad people are coming around to thicker picks. I use a 6mm
Cloneorder66
Same here. I alternate between a 6mm and 2.5mm. Thin picks are unplayable for me.
Yeah, 2 mm is way too thin. Also too small for stability imo.
I use 5 mile picks
Wow, that's wider than I can grab..... half a mile is plenty!
I use 3mm small stubby and feels perfect for everything and i was always wondering why shredders dont use it.
He must have been at "Django a GoGo" at Carnegie Hall in March 2017, which was a freaking amazing show. Glad to see amazing gypsy guitarisrs like Stephane Wrembel and Stochelo Rosenberg have an influence on JP.
yes django style gypsy jazz is incredible
Stephan is a great guy. I took lessons with him for a bit in 02, until I humbly realized I was out of my element.
"Ridiculous." - Pohn Jetrucci, 2018
I'm definitely going to stay with my AAL Primetone picks.
Records Listener if only they did it in a 1.38 size like the standard ultex jazz III
Anyone else really wish they would release all those cool colors that John has in this video? Would love a white one, or transparent amber.
Super cool great grip great sound pick no doubt !
Got this Flow(feels amazing),jazz 3 nyc and the petrucci jazz3 black or whatever its called. Ordering the Trinity soon!
Nice, give me such a plectrum and I can play like JP, great man.
It's great that John and Andy James are probably very close. Not allowing competitiveness to get in the way.
Ears14U Well they’re with the same company, so they all benefit...
And it's literally the same product, so how would it ever be competitive?
Lol
Was just about to try a set of Winspears but may try these first considering they’ll be way cheaper. I love the old JP jazz and my go-to is still the Ultex jazz 2.0 so i’d love to give these a spin
I wonder how it compares to the prime tone picks...those have been my go-to for awhile because they last for weeks, even months. Me personally that’s what I want in a pick, something that lasts. I hope to try this new one out soon though! It looks great, size wise and thickness wise too.
"Under a glass moon" was recorded using a 6 Ct. diamond piece, obviously
Holy shit he's cool
I don't think anything's gonna get me to switch from the max grip jazz III's but I'm always excited to try out a new Petrucci pick, the old Petrucci picks never did it for me, if I angled my finger wrong when playing they'd fly out of my hand.
Edit: Out of curiosity I went and tried one of the old Petrucci picks (the black JP shield ones) and played some of the cleanest leads I've ever played, maybe my picking technique's improved and they won't fly out of my hand, who knows.
I hope they bring out the other colors at some point.
JP is the man! \m/
how come it's only available in one color (red) for us?
I find the best movement from ultex, the best grip from perspex with holes, the best tone from rose wood in a shaped pick.
well hell, I just bought a boat-load of his last sig pick. I'm afraid to try these as I will probably like them better.
I use the 208's, more people need to use those picks
Best pick in history!!
Awesome but john's best work and tones are mostly in his days without all those signature gears 😂
When do the flow picks hit the market?
1:20 What a hell....OMG lol....best pick I ever used.
I play with the same picks 🤘🎸
Started with 208s 23 years ago, went to 1.5mm Sharps, down to J3 tortex 1.14 and now you want m etc go back up??? WTF..... But yeah, those 208 glide....
This pick is really good. The shape is near to perfection. Maybe I'll make one from agate or opal for more mass and put a little bit more size on it and see what comes out
The goal of every guitarist: Getting their own signature pick
I will be surprised if it will outdo Blue Chip picks. I discovered the 1.5mm T5 to be best for me ... but yeah ... pick choice is subjective. Perhaps I’ll try Petrucci’s suggestion some day.
When will JP sig toothpick by Dunlop be available for the public? Summer NAMM?
Though John Petrucci mentioned about gypsy jazz picks, I have to say the thicker picks at 0:37 is extremely hard to play on gypsy guitars
I'd rather spend 20 times more to buy a Wegen
have you tried to play without the point just using one of the sides ???? got so used to it that I cannot use the pointy side anymore dunlop jelly serie the yellow ones XH are great but when you drop them on the carpet they vanish looks like they don't want you to find them camo picks LOL thanks for sharing :)
Where the crap can i get the white ones at?
I play with thick pieces of broken floor tile! YES!!!
Donde puedo conseguir los pick's en color blanco?
If this pick is too fluid, it's really easy to sand down and make sharper. The grip was awesome but it's just do fluid it couldn't grip the string as my a as I liked and didn't have enough of a sharp attack. It was also pretty decent to pick leads fast, but was way too buttery for rhythm.
Takes some treble off compared to Tortex in my experience. Glides also chirps so far for me.
Ok, but is impossible to find it in the market. Why?
when available in italy?
Where can I get the white one?!
It's basically the pick of destiny.
I like the dunlop ultex Jazz III JP more. It's not huge difference but it feels "sharper"
Did he just say he's into gear?
Already used a 1.0 mm plectra was very hard to play with I cannot imagine a 2.0 mm what it does !!!
I once used 3 mm picks, now I use 1.5 John Petrucci Jazz III Picks
Ill try it but I'm so used to the red jazz iii
It’s the pick of destiny
On damn, so I have to buy another pick - even if I have tooo many dunlop picks. Doesn't matter: I love new dunlop picks -> take my money!
I've never played any of John's previous models, but I'm a diehard Jazz III fan. How does it compare? Looks similar yet... different.
i'd say his older 1.38s are probably a better fit, these may be a little thick
the older petrucci signatures are basically just slightly larger jazz iii's with a slightly better grip. the size is midway between the jazz iii and jazz xl's. i like 'em.
The Petrucci version of a Jazz III is a little bigger, but not much, and I feel like it glides off the strings better/more easily than a regular Jazz III, and being a bit bigger it was more comfortable for me, personally.
the dunlop 205 jazztones are what i use. extremely similar to his new pick. the jazztones have been around a long time
Why would buy it when you gonna lose it immediately?
Dave grohl is called the nicest guy in rock...
So I dub Mr Petrucci the nicest guy in metal!
I think they are very comfortable but for me, they make a horrible scratching sound on the high strings. Just FYI. Trinity picks make significantly less noise on high strings.
O melhor da propaganda é a espinha no Narego do Petrolla kkkkkkkkkk
John's right,it flows off the strings
When will the Jim Root picks be available?
Preston Singer April I think
lol
I have a question, do these picks ever get rounded at the edge?
Yes they do wear of slightly.
The differences between the AJ and JP are?
thickness.
JP says his pick is smaller than the AJ pick because he's used to the size of Jazz IIIs.
Mario Mandujano The Andy James flow picks are bigger and John Petrucci's are smaller.
??? I have had one similar to this for years. It's thick but very light. I kinda hate it for electric.
That thick
make the flows avaiable in the custom picks orders
Yoi imma buy this NOW
Nah mate, not available until april...
I find they work a bit better if I use a nail file and make the point a little sharper.
Damn I want those white ones!
Guitar Jesus
Sounds like a Apple's Jonathan Ive Advert
when are the jared james Nichols sig picks coming out.!! Lol \m/
I bought one, expensive af but the holofoil sticker peeled off of both sides in a week, not worth it for a piece of plastic, a big stubby nylon or V Pick Traditional are pretty similar in sound and feel
Can't afford it :(
Ok. I buy 1 pack.
Already available for purchase?
I bought a set (3) at the G3 concert last month. Has a small metal box included. Thinner than my usual Wegen (2.5mm), sharper edges. Very crisp sound.
Really thought they were just a fun souvenir, not an advance sale!
Not right now they're not
so.... I guess my 40+ years of using the thinnest pick possible isn't gonna sell over at Dunlop, hahaha
