The OB is a "must have". One of the most versatile pedals I have. And the VO is an amazing 808 sound pedal.
Basically maybe they are the most famous pedal from each brand. I think that both together would be an insane combination!
I got both of them. The joyo is great for smoother leads, the caline for clearer crunchy tones.
Absolutely one of the best shootout vids I’ve seen. For people looking to make a purchase, this is what we need more of.

I have both of these pedals and they work really great together with the Orange Burst boosting the Vintage Overdrive. The Joyo is pretty much a Tube Screamer clone, and a very good one at that! The Orange Burst is very versatile, working well as a clean boost or as a mild to moderate overdrive. Thanks for the video.

Good thing about the Caline, or one of the good things is that the chip is in a socket, whip it out stick in a 4558 and you have an absolutely brilliant pedal. I was looking for a very transparent pedal to add the smallest bit of grit to my clean amp. Edge of break up stuff for Rockabilly, This pedal does it in spades. Far better than the Blues Driver I was trying to use. On an AB setting with low output pickups it is hard to tell the difference between engaged or not unless you dig in. This is exactly what I was looking for. Very nice at higher gain levels as well.

I just ordered a Orange Burst and I can't wait for it to come in the mail! The Joyo is better for a smoother bluesy tone but still has a good amount of gain to it. I feel as if the Orange Burst has more of that natural breakup tone to it, it has that gritty cranked tube tone. I think I might buy the vintage overdrive in the future, both great pedals!
I was planning to get the Joyo but after seeing this video, I just ordered the Orange Burst. Thanks Shane! Oh yes, I also watched Shane's video on the Donner Alpha force and ordered it too.

The Caline Orange Burst is a must have. It sounds so good and considering the price it's unbeatable imho. Another must have cheap pedal is the Biyang Tri Reverb, it's sounds incredible and paired with the Orange Burst I'm getting boutique tones coming from my amp.
Thanks Shane for this brilliant Demo. We are considering to carry Caline pedals in our store, and - based on this comparison - to my ears the Caline Orange Burst has a more defined personality, clearer, well rounded, more muscle, better sounding quality, more musical all in all. The VO in my opinion was muddier and weaker. Anyways, cheers and keep it up!
Most samples were almost ditto except for loudness. Very last sample "full gain" helped me spot a tonal difference. The VO had a creamer lead tone and the OB had a more open clean OD tone. To each their own. Both amazing. I want all - Pure Sky, VO, OB. (I started with the VO).

Damn you! I was just about to order the Joyo. :D The Caline does sound better and it is easier to get in the UK as well.
Wow I've heard so many great things about the Joyo Vintage Overdrive and I use a couple of Joyo pedals (Vintage Phaser & Tremolo, both great) - BUT - the Orange Burst easily wins this demo! Sold!
Conozco los pedales Joyo y me encantan en aspecto, sonido y precio, pero en este caso me inclino por el Caline ya que efectivamente da un sonido más gordo al overdrive y es lo que yo busco para solos y armonías.
El Ornge Burst engorda el sonido,y el Joyo es nassal y suena igual al tubescreamer.
personalmente prefiero el Joyo pero el Orange Burst lo e tenido y es un gran pedal si lo que quieres es engordar la guitarra.
Los dos son dos pedalazos.
He escuchado muy malos comentarios en la manufactura de los pedales Nux, muy independiente del sonido, además de excelentes reviews sobre el vintage overdrive, en algunos supera al original Tube screamer.
Joyo sounds a bit hashy, the Caline is cleaner. I like the Caline better.

Both pedals sounds great. Caline Orange Burst is the clone of BB preamp and Joyo Vintage Overdrive is the clone Ibanez TS9

Picked up vintage overdrive for $25 ship from reverb mint to new condition lowest price I've seen because people are around $50. Arrived week before x-mas which was surprising and cool. By far best money spent for 2015
Man, what very light pedal with huge sound, light compared to boss or dod housing.
You can stack od's with the joyo example use a fuzz pedal then kick on joyo for abit of clean boost.
I would do a video demo of stacking with the joyo but lend my classic fuzz dod pedal to a relative out of state(country) yet got it back from him "he 's into Billy corgan stuff". Also waiting for a slightly better than average cam to arrive records 1080p.
I'm not endorsed by joyo but I'd say get one it's a good backup OD pedal if one is too cautious about having a tube screamer klon ocd or bad monkey stolen. Had to add Bad Monkey because everyone likes alot compared to the OCD,Klon, &tube screamer. Sad but true haha.
I have the VO. It IS awesomw but after hearing that orange burst I think ill get that also. They should be crazy stacked!
In many shot outs the Joyo kills the Ibanez Tube Screamer. The Joyo is an amazing pedal when it comes to tune. To me the Caline is more fat and fuzzy. Both pedals are very nice but different. Just get one of each, crying out loud!!!

I have both of these pedals on my board...For me The Orange Burst is the best clone of the BB Preamp while The Vintage OD is the best clone of the iconic TS9 and it sounds good when you stacked them together.
@@marijazlatar5457 I would recommend Caline Orange Burst because it has mids and has more gain than the Vintage OD and its very cheap.

What would be really interesting would be the Caline up against the Maxon OD 830.
I've got both and from a $$ perspective its an interesting comparison.
I'm just hearing thru my phone, but my take away is NOT on the volume disparity between the two ( and I own the Joyo OD), so much as I hear better low end and full-bodied tone with the Caline. So it gets my vote!
They both seem to have a similar breakup/sustain but better tone, IMO with Caline.

To me, The Caline really burst through, in your demo, where the Joyo sounded very muddy and a lot less pleasing to the ears.
HEY GUY ! yes these are 2 kind of things. the green pedal is like the vintage sound in the 60s and the guitar sounds warm like 60s. the orange pedal is from today loud and with boost and it sounds dry and empty. You can't say this is good and this is bad. YOU MUST KNOW WHAT SOUND TO YOU PREFER.

I have both and really like them a lot. Try to boost the Caline with Joyo you will get a great sound of it. Cheers.
@@marijazlatar5457 You can dial up the EQ for most of OD pedal to make it less bass & have more mids & treble. Both these pedal on the video are awesome pedals.
The volume output shouldn't make a difference - you are way above unity gain anyway. Unity on Orange Burst is about 9 o'clock volume and 10 o'clock gain.
why don't you lower the OB to match the VO level !
Should have ran the orange burst into the joyo at the end. I bet that would be a great combination. The Caline is so fat and punchy . You could do a whole series running the caline into other clone OD
Really need to be careful. If you are listening to any review over a cellphone, you can't really hear all the tonal characteristics. Something that sounds good on a phone for example may have way more mids in real life as phones tend to diminish some frequencies. So for instance if the Joyo sounds thinner, it may actually in a real situation sound more fuller and be just fine for your needs.
The Orange Burst sounds fatter and warmer imho. Joyo still sounds great. Maybe keep both pedals for different situations? Thanks for posting!!

Awesome stuff...A perfect example showing that if you can play a bad ass guitar such as yourself man...any pedal can get great tone..P.S All i play is joyo and caline now with a cheap mxr or ehx tossed in the mix....Is there a joyo wah yet?
For being cheap pedals they both sound decent. The orange burst is the better of the two. The joyo sounds thin in comparison.
I like the separate tone controls on the Caline. Question: do the tone controls change the entire signal or only the effect eq of the pedal?
I don't like tube screamer mid hump type pedals, so it's the ob for me, sounds really good
I prefer joyo tbh well sound is subjective though

Anyone watching this video, these are two entirely different pedals. The Joyo is a tubescreamer clone and the caline is supposed to be an orange amp style drive pedal. I honestly have no idea who asked for this comparison... Caline has their own tubescreamer pedal and Joyo has their own version of the orange pedal. Either one of those would have made for better comparison videos

I borrowed a BB and AB'd it with the Caline OB. I liked the Caline better. Caline is less noisy. The BB seems to mix some of the clean signal in with the overdrive. Didnt sound natural to me.

Just got Joyo OD yesterday for the heck of it ,good pedal, opened it up, it has 4558P IC chip,not a 4558D.Its soldered in so not a easy IC swap :( Not t a true to spec 808 clone but its still a good sounding OD :)
4558P is exactly the same chip as 4558D. Only difference is regarding thermal dissipation and that has nothing to do with the resulting sound. Functionaly they are equal 100%. So don't even bother.

Swapped ICs the 4558P is not tonally the same as 4588D, the P is slightly warmer. I didnt think they would make such a difference but its there

nylonsteel That's a first. But if you can hear the difference... I have built about a dozen overdrive circuit, swapped IC's and never heard any difference between P and D. And that similarity is well supported on the ICs datasheet. But... who knows, everyone hears things differently.

Caline is a distortion and the Joyo is an overdrive, right?
Actually, People are stacking distortion and overdrive to have some variations of sound input- not stacking the same category of effects. Therefore do not compare effects that are not the same, even if the makers say: that the effect is an overdrive but sounded not. But, when do we say it's a Distortion and when do we say that it is an overdrive?
I have had the Joyo in Harley Benton cloths, still with the uggly yellow knops - I didn´t think it sounded good at all.

Louder does not make it better
While that may be true, there's a lot more going on in the Caline than volume. If you prefer the Joyo, you just prefer it nut for clarity and cutting through, I'm say the Caline is clearer and the tone is more flexible.
