I used to gig the Quad into 2 Mesa Studio.22+ combo amps by going into the effects-in on the combos, thereby bypassing the combo preamps, just using their power amps and speakers. If the Quad went down (it NEVER did because Mesa builds everything like a tank) I still could've played through the combos preamps. I split the combos on stage to spread the sound. I positioned the amps differently depending upon the gig: sometimes wide on stage, sometimes at 90 degree angles. The tones were always glorious.
Channel 1 is mark 2c channel 2 is mark 3 main features you play multi channels at once switchable eqs reverb and a reverb boost.... Its a beast .... Purchased mine in 80s and its a still going strong....
I am really interested to hear how the Quad would sound running into the Mark's power amp vs. the Mark IV standalone. That happens to be the setup I am looking to try to do myself.
@@Rohbemusic Interesting. I am in the US and am just noticing you are in Sweeden. Shipping would suck, but it might still be worth considering it since Quads don't pop up that often. I have the same screen name on a bunch of the forums so you could PM me if you wanted to think this through some more.
I think the biggest issue is the power transformers. We are using 230v over here and I think theres no way to rewire to 110. But i guess anything is possible! The only thing thats impossible seems to be finding a mark iic+ 😂
Ahh. Did not even think about the transformer part as I never really looked at stuff across the seas before haha. I have been casually browsing for a IIC+ too. Can find a few over here but without the GEQ and am starting to think about just getting one of those with a 5 band EQ pedal to try to hold me over for a while and keep enough spending power to try to buy a Mark III and IV too.
Nice video man, thanks for sharing... how do you connect the power amp to the Torpedo ? I mean, this is a stereo poweramp suposed to work better with the two channels... but I guess you connected only one channel to the Torpedo. How did you deal with that without damaging one of the channels (the unused one) of the power amp ?
Hi! Thanks. I connected the unused output to a second loadbox but it is a little overkill as mesa says in the manual that its fine to run one side without load as long as you dont run signal through it.
I've always played my Quad through the Strategy 500, which is pretty LOUD. I'd like to understand how it compares to the varous Strategy 400, 2:50, 2:90, 295, 395, etc. There's such little info about mesa power amps!
I'm curious about that too! I have the Fifty/Fifty and it's so, so good for guitar with the Studio Pre. The manual makes it sound like they voiced it specifically for guitars and the 500 is for everything. But now I'm curious about the 295 for the ability to switch between EL34 and 6L6 tubes and the 400 or 500 for it's use as a stereo system or piano amp as well. In a way, I wish they made a way less powerful power amp like the 295 but with the XLR and 1/4 inputs and no fan. That would be the perfect power amp.
Had this with the Strat400 and 50/50 . .Went back to heads.. You can hear my Quad /400 rig on a solo here @3:40...ua-cam.com/video/G4ZUhygHZzo/v-deo.html
@cmath8577 Man u probably won't believe this but, you guys inspired my first CD ! A friend of mine turned me on to your first CD. I want to say it was called Dose?? Had a song about a Skateboard and another about Gasoline or something I think?? I got turned on to Ben Grosse through you guys. If this is the wrong Altered State I sound stupid now! Respond when you can!

i had one a long time ago, wish i never got rid of it, to me it sounds better than the triaxis
I feel like the tone at 4:00 with some tweaking can achieve the Lines in the Sand Solo tone, which is one of the best tone I've heard from Petrucci.
Hey man, great demonstration. What does the Stereo 2 Fifth do? Is it a necessary component to connect the amp to the speakers?
Yes exactly its the poweramp 👍

Im quite qurious about that too. I do think i prefer the power section of the mkiv to both 2:50 and 3:95. But a comparison is due soon 👍
@@Rohbemusic That would be stellar if you are able to get to that!
Great find. Let me know if you winding up wanting to sell it for whatever reason soon. Can make you a great offer and nice profit.
Im actually thinking about parting with the quad and the 2:50. Im using my mkiv alot more as it is. It depends on where you are located 👍

Very nice :)). Did you use 6L6 or EL34?
6l6gc 👍
What a coincidence I was seeing things about this preamp and boom! I'm searching for one of these for me.
Thats how it is sometimes! Hard to come by, this just popped up at a steal today! Im happy I got it! More videos to come!
Nice. How dix you get the stéréo signal (Relay /écho) ?
Stereo delay in daw 👍

I do prefer my mkiv but have a soft spot for rack gear. Sounds great!

What did it cost ?..... the Preamp alone ?
Got a great deal on it. Picked it up for under €350!
@@Rohbemusic Killer find! Killer rig!
I think you have both EQ active instead of just one? :)
One is for channel 1 and one for channel 2. If im playing ch1 only the first is active. If im playing both, both eq are active 👍
@@Rohbemusic thanks!
How much did you pay for the Quad?
About $450 👍
@@Rohbemusic Question on the foot controller, when you select EQ-1 does it affect only Channel-1 & EQ-2 is only for channel 2?
Yes thats correct!
$450 is a steal! These are going for around $1800 now
