Interpretations of this song (for what they're worth) -
“This is a comment on a failed/folded relationship. One, knowing I'm one, hearing of two, is saying he is alone and hearing about the new relationship. This follows through with the talk of loneliness, when you laugh, the night alone will hear and the night don't care... then comes the awakening, the cold water morning. And yes, those of us who are in relationships, we know are doomed will know the feeling I've been waiting so long for you. There is such overwhelming sadness in this song; it cuts to the very heart. In the end, the couple are reunited...”
"Whenever I listen to this song, I always feel that Neil was trying to convey a feeling of a ‘cold water’ morning, metaphorically speaking… that empty, shivery, cold feeling of being alone… sort of how someone would feel if they would have ‘cold water’ tossed over them and their emotions… it’s like being alone in the dark of the night… that same ’empty’ feeling… and longing for something more. Anyway, that’s how I envision this song, and even the ‘haunting’ of the music and Neil’s lamenting voice…”

Spectacular images of lakes and streams amongst the eeriness of woods and mountains that helps to set the tone of this heartfelt song. I love how Neil sings those high notes in 'take off your night time shoes'. Thank you, Doug, for another work of art. 💎💎💎
Thanks for your comments Donita, much appreciated. This one took a little over a week from the commencement of the project stage (dreaming up the scenario, surfing the internet for appropriate images that concurred with my mind's eye, audio and video edits). Then came the nightmare, for some inexplicable reason the program refused to convert the project into video format. I battled over four days, wreaking my brains, seeking ways to overcome the problem. At one stage, I even split the video into two parts (smaller files), then merged them into one video, Unfortunately, the joint between the two separate files appeared as a split second cut (blank) in the song. I wasn’t happy. Relief on day 4 when I managed to circumvent the problem. On the 5th day I rested.😌Relieved.
Unbelievable problems in producing this video. So glad that you persevered. The first image is fabulous with the way you were able to put the waterfall in slow motion.

1:50 I've always loved this Song. One of his old ones that One can explain at Will or simply enjoy the sheer beauty of its melody, Neil's voice with the falsetto, of course. The põem is ambíguous and Open to all interpretation. I just sit back and enjoy it!

Thanks for your kind comment Louise, much appreciated. Indeed! This song is open to a multitude of interpretations that the _only_ person who could accurately do so would be Neil himself. Up to a couple of weeks ago, this could not have been amongst the furthest from my mind, but... there you go... I haven't the foggiest as to where or which song becomes my next project (or victim😉) The quirks and meanderings of a quirky mind. As you are only too well aware this video, as consequence of issues with technology caused me a lot of heartache and angst. Relieved when the final product _finally_ made it to video stage. Hi Doug, I am not one who dives into the meanings and why Neil Diamond pens his ever so extraordinary songs. I've said before I just love listening...although I realize he is a deep thinker as Coldwater Morning illustrates. I leave the intricate commentaries to other deep thinkers 😊.

Hi Louise, regarding the girl appearing then disappearing... sheer trickery (from sleight of hand-er). The video image at 0:10 is actually a still image (a photograph), but I, again through sheer trickery, got the water to flow and added the sound effect as well. Not quite the parting of the Red Sea.😉😊
