Just finished it myself. Agree with some of the thoughts here. For me, the book picked up a lot about half way through (the narrator's voice, Johnny's, really came through. This doesn't happen too often, but one of the most vivid times was while reading Emily Dickinson's poems. Heard her clear as day. And it was freaked me out), and there towards the end, the letter's from his mom, that sort of got to me. I was out in public reading it, so wasn't about to start tearing up. One review pointed out that the book had elements of concrete poetry which seemed pretty insightful. Two things for me, on the collage the mythic figure is a centaur, not a minotaur. Also, at the end, when he included some poems, the Sylvia Plath sort of made me realize that she wasn't a bad poet.
Loved the video...this has always been a favorite book of mine and as much as I love it, I never recommend it lol. But I am always immensely interested in what anyone has to say about it. I get wishing there was an audiobook but I also don't know how that would really work with how this is written. Again, loved the video!
thank you!! I also don’t think an audiobook would make much sense but just makes it more accessible. i agree fun and interesting, can’t recommend hahaha it’s wayyy too wild
I’m always pulled between wanting to read it and never wanting to touch it when you talked to us about it. And watching this video makes it no different 😅
what a saga! it sucks that the coded parts seemed to not really mean anything. That was the most intriguing part to me when i heard about this book. I'd be so mad if it was all just BS to make the book look cooler lol
what i've learned since reading is that this book is satire about pretentious dark academia so a lot of it is pointless and fiction mixed with real life to give it merit. the theories are super cool and make it more worth it lol
