    I just picked up the GPTOYS drift shark, seams to be the same platform ad this. I've been watching your videos on this all morning and think I'm going to upgrade some parts, out of the box, my swing shafts in front (plastic) are broken. I'm waiting on the atomic aluminum ones to come in the mail. And it came with locked diffs already. I think I'm going to tear it down to see what quality they are. I just wanted to ask if you've made or could make a teaching video on how to both setup a drift car and basic lessons on drifting. I've tried looking around but all I can find is just regular drifting video or competition video. I'd love to get some ideas to fine tune my DRZ and also about driving techniques. Keep up the good work up the good videos, I find them really useful and insightful.

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  5 років тому +2

      Thanks for the suggestion.
      Setup can be trial & error. Take note on what you adjust and what difference does it make. I'll be sure to make a RWD setup video too.
      As for how to drift...
      Honestly after all these years that I drift from racing simulation to RC I still don't know how to teach people to drift. I can do it because it just comes to me, I kid you not. I'm still reading up on how to drift and what to call each technique. Some day when I have more confidence I'll make a video on that. Right now it would just be: can you feel it? Now turn the steering wheel the other way and hit the throttle. So, I'm really sorry about this.

    • @foxracerdrew
      @foxracerdrew 5 років тому +3

      It's fine, drifting is more like an art form compared to racing. I think even a simple video just showing you using the controller in the foreground with the car drifting in the background would be a lot of help just to show how to control the car rather than a long winded verbal explanation on how to do it. Any way, I look forward to your future videos.

      It's the same car so the method is the same. Convert the shock to monoshock and cut the front gearbox for access (update 2 ua-cam.com/video/QIi_DY06pJY/v-deo.html ). Then extend the servo horn (this video). It'll give you the steering angle you need.

    Hi Mr Beaver, I've cooked up a rwd with my k989 but when I steer in full (the wheel goes 180 deg) one of the wheel lifts up, is this common and if it isn't then ur advice on fixing this?

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  2 роки тому +1

      It's not really normal. A bit of a lift can be fixed with a screw in the lower arm so both sides are at the same level. I suggest checking the articulation of the ball heads so that when the servo pulls the rods they won't jam into anything and lift the arm.

    Hey can you do a video explaining or driving with the gyrostabilizer and without. I have never drifted these cars but ive allways loved the micro Rc cars because you can drive them inside i am looking into the kyosho mini z or a hpi micro rs4 i didnt know wl toys and jjrc had micros as well. My favorite was the losi micro t 1/36 scale truck and the 1/24th scale micro crawler

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  5 років тому +3

      Yes, It's gonna take a while until I can make the explaining video so here's a quick answer. Basically gyro is to keep the car pointing forward. In RC drifting if the car is 4WD/AWD you don't really need it. It just make things easier. But for RWD it's essential that you have gyro to help steering the car otherwise you can't keep it from spinning. And it'd better be a decent one too because something like onboard gyro in receiver can't keep up with the small angle changes when the car continuously swing.
      Next, both Mini-Z and Micro RS4 are good cars. Micro RS4 is quite big but if you have space it'd be fun to have. It's a shame Losi discontinued Micro-T. Right now there's a clone from JJRC too (JJRC LT832). It's pretty cheap and helps people getting in to micro RC easier. Quality wise, can't beat the original though.

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  3 роки тому

      The turning is limited by the CVD so you can only go as far as those allow. If you want to maximize AWD setup then you can do the monoshock mod then extend the servo horn so you can steer more and set the EPA for it to turn until the wheels start to shake in full lock, dial it back a bit so it won't break the CVD.

    • @NeoIsrafil

    • @BeaversHobby

      Mini-Z body? Not as it is. You'll have to drill new holes to shorten the wheelbase to 90mm. I suggest getting Aoshima 1/24 plastic model and use that as a body instead.

    Hello is it easier to drift with a steering angle like that compare to the stock steering angle of k969?? I hope you'll answer my question

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  3 роки тому

      It's different. This is RWD drift mod so it needs this much steering angle to be able to drift. The stock car is AWD so the angle after you move the servo ball head to top hole is enough (see my K989 stage 1 video for tutorial). RWD is generally harder to drift than AWD but it looks more realistic and more fun.

    what size is the full rod mm

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  5 років тому

      The steering rod? 26.5mm end to end, 21.5mm centre to centre of the ball heads.
      However this depends on many things such as the length of your servo horn, distance between ball head on the horn, servo position, knuckle length, etc.

    • @azisalgania1656
      @azisalgania1656 5 років тому

      @@BeaversHobby yes steering rod...ok ... for the upper arm does it have to be modified a little longer ... and if it's not modified it isn't perfect??

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  5 років тому

      @@azisalgania1656 For me I still have the same length, actually it's a tad shorter than before too because I have negative camber. And you can see in the video that it's near parallel. But I also move the shock up to get it out of the way and cut the shock pole off lower arms to achieve that.
      The steering angle also depends on many more things, mostly how long is your servo horn and did you cut the bulkhead to have more clearance. You can extend the upper & lower arms too so you can extract more angle out of it but you'll have to fashion a new steering system different than mine to utilize it.
      You can see my complete setup in ep.4 of this series. I find it near perfect this way. Of course it's not Atomic DRZ or XRX DPA.

      Check servo position, it should be a bit up front so when the steering is in neurtral the arms form an angle towards the front with the knuckles. And when it in full lock the arms will go almost right angle to centre line of the chassis.
      Next, put M2 screw in lower arms to adjust the ride height. Push the front down until the wheels touch the ground for the whole steering range.
