Shocking Results from Overwintered Leeks!
Maybe you knew about overwintering leeks already, and this won't be a shock to you, but we didn't realize leeks could be overwintered in our zone 5 garden.
The end result of our accidental overwintering these leeks is the topic of this gardening youtube shorts video. One of the things we have read is that overwintering leeks can result in a stronger taste, and we know that leeks are typically sweeter and milder than onions, but since this was our first year growing leeks, we didn't know what to expect.
As you will see in this short garden harvest video, the results are better than we could have pictured.
Now that we know what can be done with these leeks, this may be something we do again in the future when we are growing leeks.

Yes! I have a patch in our front garden where multisown leeks overwintered here in Oregon (zone 8b so much friendlier lows), and they are so good! We have been able to cut/twist/cajole away what we want from the clumps and let the others size up more. Now that the warmth is coming on, they're starting to send out scapes, which are much like garlic scapes. I cut a few today and they smell delicious. I'll probably let a few go to seed so we have some for next season. I have even noticed some baby leeks growing next to some of the larger leeks. I had heard that leeks can propagate via side shoots from underground, so it was neat to see this happen.

be careful not to grown them on top of a building because it might become, LEAKY

I didn’t know this was possible either but did it accidentally last year. I’m yet to try them but intend to cook them first!
