    I was having a positive experience with Librela 2 months/injections. I felt her back flattened and she was doing brief zoomies again but after the 3rd injection I went on google looking for its contraindications and wow there is a whole community of dog owners who have had Librela tragedies.. Not sure if I'm actually seeing a Neurological decline in her or if I'm imagining it but I think I will take a break and start with Rejenease Glucosamine Extra Strength which my teeth cleaner recommended. It has Glucosamine MSN Chondroitin Hyloronic Acid and Manganese and no sugars or wheats. My 16yo is very finicky so hope she will eat her food with this, if not I can use a needless syringe to administer. If her hunched back returns we may go back on Librela. BYW she is diagnosed with osteoarthritis.

    Librela KILLEd my elderly dog. Meadow was 14 years old and had arthritis and stage 2 kidney disease. In short, she had the shot, the next day she looked like Bambi, falling in her water bowl, food bowl, all over the place. She would not eat and when the vet came to put her down (not her regular vet) i asked why how this could happen. This vet told me "unfortunately, she sees this frequently" It is not recommended for elderly dogs. DON'T give your elderly dog this poision, Like the big pharma for humans, same goes for dogs. They only push this for money and they don't care about pets or pets parents who suffer a terrible loss and leave us with guilt! I've cared for my dog for 17 years and I didn't even had the chance to say goodbye properly! She started having seizures and I knew I can't leave her to have another one in case that she doesn't woke up and then she dies in agony. I had to have her last ride with the car and that was our way to the vets to end her life. Im Absolutely shattered

      Thank you for relating the impressions of your at home vet death dula. I believe they see so much and can inform our experience and direction before at home euthanization is required. My death dula vet was an angel and after a year of surgeries and procedures that did not improve his quality of life, helped my small poodle pass without pain to freedom. Our conversation helped with my guiding his littermate who I rescued with him from a hoarding situation 15 years prior and now she is 16 years and 3 months and we are hoping for more healthy years ahead. Love and Prayers for Meadow.

    My 14 year old Chipin has had two injections so far and will soon have his third. We noticed a significant improvement, especially after the first injection. Shortly before, he wasn't able to use his affected leg at all, but then a few days after the injection he was jumping around on the bed like a little deer. So I can really recommend Librela, even though there's of course never a guarantee (with any drug). I'm curious to see whether the positive effect will last for an even longer period of time, e.g. a year or more. Some people in the comments seem suspicious of Libreala simply because they don't understand how the drug works. Or they associate the drug with other unrelated health complications. But correlation does not imply causation! FYI: medications that work in the same way (monoclonal antibodies) are also used to treat people, for osteoarthritis, but also for diseases such as multiple sclerosis and cancer. Drugs are tested extensively before they are approved, both for humans and animals. And if you're not an expert yourself, you shouldn't jump to conclusions about something you don't understand properly. Maybe Libreala didn't work for your dog and I'm sorry for that. But it's neither "poison" nor "garbage" because of that. Medications do not work the same for every animal, but it is still worth a try because Librela has significantly fewer side effects than conventional painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs. And at the same time it has a clinically proven effect, in contrast to any “alternative remedies”. Just talk to your vet and get proper advice instead of listening to people in these comments who really have no knowledge of medicine or pharmacology and will ultimately just make you feel frightened and unsure about what is best for your dog. All the best to you and your dog(s) 😊

    How are the anti bodies supposed to know which nfg to supress and which not to supress. I think they can't. Aren't ngf also important for a lot of neurological stuff? What if you supress these? Librela for me is a last ditch effort, not the first way to go. If every thing else fails or is not possible anymore (due to liver and kidney problems after longterm nsaids).

      Exactly, you don't know. My dog was in perfect health - she hesitated going up a flight of stairs so the vet recommended Librela even though he suggested she could have cataracts or other issues that made her hesitant to climb stairs - no diagnosis of osteoarthritis. Within 36 hours of the injection, she was dead. It was the most traumatic, horrific event I've ever witnessed. I wouldn't wish the side effects she experienced on my worst enemy. • @mikahundin
    @mikahundin 4 місяці тому

    - Librela, a relatively new medication introduced in 2021, has garnered significant attention due to its efficacy in managing arthritis in dogs. The high demand for this treatment has led to some clients having to wait on lists to access it, showcasing its popularity within the veterinary community. - Osteoarthritis, a condition affecting approximately 80% of dogs over the age of eight, serves as the primary target for Librela. However, it's important to note that this condition can also manifest in younger dogs, particularly those with congenital joint issues. This underscores the necessity of addressing arthritis as a medical concern rather than merely attributing it to old age. - Librela stands out from conventional pain relievers due to its unique mechanism of action. Administered as a monthly injection, it functions as a monoclonal antibody targeting nerve growth factor. By inhibiting this factor, Librela effectively mitigates pain and inflammation associated with arthritis. Importantly, its mode of action minimizes strain on vital organs like the liver and kidneys, offering a potentially safer option for long-term use. - Despite its promise, the effectiveness of Librela varies among individual dogs. While some experience remarkable improvement, others may require supplementary treatments alongside Librela or may not respond to it at all. The variability in response emphasizes the importance of personalized treatment plans tailored to each dog's unique needs. - Although generally considered safe, Librela may entail certain risks and side effects. These include swelling at the injection site and rare allergic reactions. Additionally, it's contraindicated for dogs under 12 months old, pregnant or lactating dogs, and those with severe veterinary-related anxiety. Understanding these considerations is crucial for veterinarians and pet owners when deciding on the most appropriate treatment approach for canine arthritis management.

    • @mikahundin
      @mikahundin 4 місяці тому

      The timeframe for observing improvement with Librela can vary from dog to dog. While some dogs may experience noticeable relief shortly after starting treatment, for others, it may take several weeks or even months to see significant improvement. According to the transcript, if there is no improvement after the second dose, it is unlikely to have an effect for that particular dog. However, complete lack of response is relatively rare. Therefore, it's essential to monitor the dog's progress closely and consult with a veterinarian if there are concerns about the treatment's effectiveness.

      Was that reversible ???

    • @kimmcamp
      @kimmcamp 8 місяців тому

      Yes, it was, thank fully. It has taken from May 21 after the first shot when the ataxia started leading to her not being able to bear weight on her rear legs, until early Sept before she started to walk, she still does fall over sometimes. I did about an hour of physio a day from the end of May till mid Sept, along with at home laser therapy. So yes it is reversable, but work must be put into the dog to keep muscle mass and strength. She was on a very short course of pred in Aug, but it had to be stopped as it caused her liver enzymes to increase ten-fold @@bekanimal Once she was unable to bear weight in May, I did some research and made the decision if she was going to have to live in a wheelchair, and/or inside the house aids I was committed to it, and truly never expectefd her to walk again.

    Thank you for this clear and informative video. I currently have a cat with cat flu who has seen a vet and is on antibiotics for any secondary infection that might pop up. He's quite poorly with it-fortunately I work from home and can monitor him closely but it's very worrying. Your video has helped me understand a little more about it. Many thanks

    my 15 yo lab mix is getting a monthly Librela injection since a year and it is crucial to maintain his (pain free) mobility, which in turn is crucial to his health and happiness. We are luckily among those for whom this worked wonderfully. Thank you for this informative and lovely video.

    I just spayed my dog out of fear of pyometra but the vet let me know there was no sign of pyometra when they looked at her uterus when it was out. She was on antibiotics two days before but we took her in because of white discharge 4 weeks after heat. Could you guess what that white discharge could’ve been?

      @@alexandrac9536 my dog is 14....it's a balancing act as is all late life care...masking pain is dangerous because they can hurt themselves, there might be long term affects but when the alternative is euthanasia sooner than later it's a no brainer. No medication is ever without a cost

      I hope you feel better soon! Spread of coronavirus to pets can happen but they are more likely to carry the disease on their fur than they are to become sick themselves. You can reduce the chance of transmission by being on top of hygiene. Be sure to keep a close eye on her and call your vet if you are worried 🐱
