"As far as we know, the village is completely defenseless."
*shop sign that reads "Bob's Guns" is plainly visible*
20:41 They were called "unlucky footman" as if we didn't know that being sacrificed makes you unlucky.
Uther Lightbringer first appeared in Warcraft II, though I don't think there was much if any story to him. But he was young there, so that's something :X
That's probably because Turalyon and Alleria were the main highlight of the game.
Johnny Midnite Not really since they only appeared after the expansion came out.
back then manuals were the thing, so probably a lot of the story was in the manual :), man I remember that 100 page book of a manual that came with Starcraft
TheNovicek Yeah but they still did contribute a lot more in WC2 than Uther. Oh well, it's Probly just me then.
maybe, I was just suggesting, I don't remember the WC2 manual that well :)
This might just be me but the cinematics look fucking awesome
They were great for the time, that valley and those mountains look so real. It's just the characters that look a little odd and slow
OMG! The Nostalgia, it's all coming back to me. I can't wait for the Night Elf campaign. I hope you find the Zerg hiding in the trees =)
A little part of me died inside when crendor didnt notice the sub quest to kill the dragon in blackrock and roll ;-;
For something from 16 years ago, these cinematics are incredible!
Crendor you can try explore the map for a bit you'll get extra items + soldiers specially when you defend hearthglen : D for example
Dude you are just cruel. lol
kopitarrules
who will save us from the evil?
He could also get an OP Hydralisk from Starcraft in one mission, much later in the game (Night Elf campaign)
jordan grandlouis Really? Starcraft hydralisk in Warcraft? Prob fake but still fucking awesome to try
RamboDog no its not there is proof husky star crafts videos
It's kind of interesting watching someone who clearly didn't know anything about pre-WoW Warcraft lore play through the game, but sometimes it's also kind of frustrating. Fans who came to the series with WoW generally have no idea how much that game retconned, even in its vanilla form, and then every new expansion added at least one major retcon to previous lore.
Funny how the city in the cinematic is only named Capital City and Undercity and has not been given a name under human occupation. Uther was an Important Character in Warcraft 2. Strahnbrad can be found in Alterac in WoW. Tomes are instantly used nowadays. You missed: The Best Character Thornby(granting you two footmen), a quest to rescue Little Timmy (you remember him from Stratholme Living Side) from gnolls, a sidepath with a villager masquerading as a bandits. You can see ghosts in the graveyard in the night and recruit two more footmen in the village fighting the orcs. I'll do a different post with stuff from the other mission.
I played lots of Warcraft 3 when i was a kid.. i still remember most cheat codes to the game. Me and my friends tried to rush the game as fast as possible the record we had was 12 hours. The nostalga is extreme..
So happy that someone is finally doing a play through of this game
Absoluteley loving this. The nostalgia is overwhelming, and it only makes it better that Crendor is experiencing it for the first time. It allows me to relive the game fresh. So good.
well i hope you noticed before i say this but the Tomes used to require to be in the invetory before using it up however now you can pick it from the ground and get the stats so you only got the effect from getting it.
you beat me to it :D
them patches...
+Bartosz Szafarz The Expansion actually.
Why did the Birdman have to speak in riddles if he's trying to warn people of the impending danger? Why not just be frank and say "Yo, demons coming to wreck your shit. Better GTFO. Kthxbai"
He's a scholar at heart and can't bear to speak in such common tongue
As with every noble in fantasy settings, they probably wouldn't believe him and ask for proof anyways. Some people are destined to suffer for their stupidity and sadly drag the rest of nation with them.
Taylan Ertan
A guy dressed as a bird tells you to abandon your home and move west because the end is near, would you do it?
The horde seems to respect their leader enough not to waste his time with lunatics on a regular basis, but I assume the humans don't hold their king in the same regard...
When has a "prophet" ever spoke normally?
The people he is warning are not equipped with the knowledge or mental capability to comprehend the impending doom. It's like you trying to realize the size of a galaxy. You can try but you're brain isn't really equipped to think that big. The knowledge of the burning legion to Azeroth is like the theory of relativity.
Couple of tips for future episodes. 1, don't always follow the path, you miss side quests and free items/units. 2, destroy murloc huts, bandit camps, centaur camps and others for items. hope you have fun playing WCIII RoC/WotLK best blizzard game's to date imo.
Tome of Strength was automatically applied to your Hero stats when your received it in your inventory. You can notice that Arthas maximum health raised from 700 to 725. At 9:30 you can notice the sound and light around Arthas that your stats were improved.
Human campaign was always my favorite. fun faction to play and a good aesthetic too
I actually played the battle chest combo and never played WoW. Goin against the flow!
The voice of Arthas' father, is also the voice of the man who follows the Dark Wanderer (Diablo) in Diablo 2!
If Crendor takes this series to the end it will be really cool. It's awesome to have a scripted story game to come back to on the channel. Especially such a classic!
Crendor my friend let me tell you a thing or two about em dusty ol "tomes". Way waaaay back in history they use to occupy one of your inventory slots. You could click on them to read it and increase your stats permanently.
For example the Tome of strength gave you +1 strength to your hero (+25 hp increased hp regen and because Arthas is a strength based char also gain +1 attack dmg).
After the tome is read it is discarded to leave room in your inventory for other more useful items.
However the mighty Blizzard sages released that this was a very inefficient way of gaining knowledge and in a "patch" made it possible for the user to absorb the knowledge without you having to carry around all of em big books.
Hope this helps. I really enjoy this playthrough keep on going!
did you know that you can repeatedly click any minion and they will eventually say something funny, including the heroes.
So happy you're playing this! One of my favorite games ever, I was lucky enough to play it before WoW and Arthas' story was just awesome. Hopefully you're also playing the expansion, The Frozen Throne.
There was actually 2 more levels in the orc campaign. It gives some extra lore. For some reason, it was available in the demo but not in the base game. It's actually hidden in the frozen throne expansion somewhere, I believe it was in scenarios or custom maps (can't remember). Ready to play though.
I actually started with Warcraft II Tides of Darkness as a kid due to my fathers influence. Moved to WoW because of Warcraft! Glad you started this series!
Actually, the only reason I played WoW was because I wanted to see WC3's story conclude
Hey Crendor, I know this will only come into effect in a few episodes if you choose to listen, but might I suggest you look around the map for side quests? :) It might at times :)
Indeed he's already missed the epic lore behind Timmy, and the first appearance of both the dwarves AND the black dragonflight.(at least in this game. ;) )
I was really sad about that aswell, though it cant be helpled its his channel : )
kopitarrules I can't believe he just ran past the dwarves and didnt even notice them...THEY WERE ON THE SCREEN FFS!
been play Warcraft way before WOW. i am a lore go anything warcraft related. loved that RTS
I like how you are learning in reverse. It is fun to see this stuff again for those of us who already know it.
It's really awesome to see someone playing for the first time getting excited over this classic.
Yay! Thanks for increasing the game sound! Dis is why I love you.
So, everyone is screaming this already, but I'll try to put this all in one place:
- exploring the maps to their full extent is where most of the enjoyment comes from. You're missing out on cool encounters, loot and quests.
- A-click huts and crates - from time to time there are hidden items inside.
- hold ALT or enable it in the post-patch options to see units healthbars.
- try microing more intensely. At least use ctrl+numbers to bind units and buildings to specific groups.
- near the minimap there's an icon like a pyramid of circles. Click on it so that those circles disperse. This is why in your horde missions Thrall lagged behind and will be a reason of major pain in the ass later on. This auto-formation ruins your control of your units and just makes ranged attackers wait until all melee are in front of them.
- optimal number of workers per gold mine is 5. There is no reason to put more than 5 there.
I loved the WC3 and WC3:FT campaigns so much. This videos are amazing and I love re watching one of my favorite games of all time.
The reward from the side quest was a tome that permantly give stats when used. In a patch they were changed to pick ups, so it automaticly applied. (The visual effect around Arthas upon completion)
Blizzard's CG was so ahead of it's time back then, it was amazing to see just the texture on the king's face when it did a close up of him.
those are the worst guards in the history of mankind D: "Guards! Take that prisoner away!" "Ok boss, we will touch his shoulder and wait untill he leaves"
You'd also think they'd have magical sentries around the *royal palace*, you know, so no shapeshifters got through undetected and murdered the entire royal family... :P
SinerAthin they didn't have to deal with shapeshifters back then so they didn't need protection against it.
Crednor! Before you play the main orc campaign in this, play the custom campaign of the frozen throne! There is one already made and its called the Riders of the Storm. It happens after the orcs leave Lordaeron and before they arive on Kalimdor in the orc campaign here! The horde comes across a group of islands on the way, and have an adventure there! This is where Vol'jin is introduced, and darkspear trolls join the Horde!
Yes, this, so much this!
Crendor, there's a fun little easter egg... spam left click on neutral things like pigs or sheep for a cool surprise! There's also additional lines your units say if you do the same to them.
As someone who has played and loved Warcraft 3, but never played WoW (didn't have the money), this is pretty funny and also pretty awesome. All the memories!
In the second mission in this video you missed: Feranor Steeltoe, a dwarf who would give you a quest to kill a black drake Searinox, whose heart would have been forged into a orb of fire increasing attack damage by 6, starting the quest would also give you access to dwarven riflemen from Barracks and Blacksmith to upgrade your units. Also available were the orc base where the attacks came from, some murlocs and an ogre encampment where Gauntlets of Ogre Strenght would drop. That and some more murlocs are hidden behind trees so getting to them is tedious at best.
I played the original Warcraft 1 when I was 6... it sucked and I didn't underatnd it.
3 years later I played warcraft 2 and loved it!
Dear blizz, HD remake. All I'm saying.
Or we just remake the wc1 and wc2 campaigns in wc3
***** remake them in warcraft 4
www.polygon.com/2013/11/10/5087768/blizzard-warcraft-and-warcraft-2-working-on-modern-pcs
Since the battle.net edition of warcraft II runs just fine on modern systems, I'm hoping this will be an actual remake.
***** no wonder with the mapping scene in there. I never played wc1 because i heard the controls were too finnicky. Also didn't finish wc2 campaign since i found even those controls a bit lacking, which is to be expected after playing wc3 for a long time
***** sweet thanks. i'll try that out then
Break those crates in your base! There are usually items there
Also any neutral (like the tents in uther's camp in the first human mission) or overtly bad (such as the logs the trolls, furbolg etc etc, live in, in this game) buildings also often contain items of use.
+kopitarrules And explore hard as probably atleast 1 item per map is hidden hard that way. (Night Elves in TFT had it the hardest to find with Maiev being used as the blinker to find them, thus way harder to find).
kiloneie Oh most certainly. Perfect example is the shadow orb thingamabobber in the tomb of Sargeras. I swear, even with the strategy guide I STILL find it difficult to obtain all 10 pieces. (although that MAY have something more to do with the timer on the second half of that campaign lol)
kopitarrules Yeh... most of the time i gotten like most of the orbs but never all of them, so i used the iseedeadpeople fog removal cheat code and still struggled really hard finding all of them, so much that it took me an hour+ on that mission alone lols... The orbs are just so obnoxiously hidden that it's no surprise if you missed half of them.
kiloneie
Absolutely. Where I have troubel getting them all without a cheat code is I think it is 2 or 3 that are only accessible AFTER the cave starts to collapse, you have NO units and demons are fighting naga everywhere. I ... do not do well on timed levels lol.
Glad you could bake it Uther.
Uther + Arthas = Obiwan + Anakin
I never played WoW or know anything about it, but I played the shit out of warcraft 3 when I was a wee baby.
One thing that l loved about this game was the maps before a mission. They were massive, making it look like it took hours or days to walk anywhere. "When Jaina says "Hearthglen finally, l could use a rest." You could agree with that, it did take a while to get there. Man another RTS for Warcraft would be greater than getting on Thori'dal, the Stars' Fury your first Sunwell run. Reign of Chaos was my first ever pc game that l loved.
Watching this is making me REALLY want to llay Warcraft 3
Warcraft 3 was what got me into wow, I was so ready to see arthas and illidan when i heard wow was coming out. Hell when I was a kid my brother and dad played warcraft 2 O.o
Crendor, next time you see a sheep try clicking on it 20 times, you will be very surprised at what happens
Crendor, you gotta do the sidequests ya nerd!
fuck me the cinematics were so ridiculously good for their time, even now still would be classed as amazing.
Warcraft III is the best. Such a good campaign and Battle.net was amazing, such good memories.
The tomb you couldn't find used to be an item that increased a stat by +1 or something. Now it just automatically adds the stat to your hero so you don't need to click
Was big into RTS games way back. Was introduced to them by a friend of my brother's who loaned us is copy of Command and Conquer: Red Alert around the time it came out. Then after that my brother got us Age of Empires 2 and it's Conquerors expansion, after that I got Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds and Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge, the very shortly after I got Empire Earth. A few years after that, I think my last in store bought RTS was Empire Earth 2, and at that point I kind of fell out of playing RTS games.
I never knew about Blizzards RTS games until just before I fell out. A friend showed my what Warcraft 3 was like and he showed me that he played the original DOTA, but I just never got around to buying myself a copy.
I mentioned on Crendor's first Warcraft 3 video, that about a week and a half ago, I was thrifting at a Goodwill and was able to pick up the base game of Warcraft 3 for two dollars. I've been playing at the same pace as Crendor's WC3 video releases.
Arthas and Uther the Lightbringer are obviously references to Arthur and Uther Pendragon from the Arthurian Legends
wc3 was the whole reason I started playing wow, when I first played it I was just staring at things like ''Hey look, that's that building from wc3, but way bigger!''
Pls rush these out Crendor! I can't get enough, i loooooove warcraft 3, unfortunately i was too young to understand english when i played it..
Uther the Lightbringer was one of the first paladins "created' by mostly Archbishop Alonsus Faol And boom, the Order of the Knights of the Silver Hand. The other 2 noteworthy "higher ranked" paladins were Tirion Fordring and Turalyon. Turalyon was a big focus during the events of "Tides of Darkness". And took up the rank of High General of the human army, as encouraged by Lothar and the troops. After *cough* working alongside Alleria, things started happening between them.
For a guy that loves RTS'... crendor's obliviousness to.. everything is astounding.
I like how everything is referred to as a nerd :D
"If we allow our passions to turn to bloodlust, then we become as vile as the orcs." And a very powerful Sith!! ... Err I mean Death Knight.
I find it funny how many people consider Arthas to be this great character when he's just a copy of Anakin.
GeneralProfessor
Corruption of a good character is a very longstanding trope, far predating Star Wars. You could say it was ripped off from so many places with that mindset. That said Vader stays a minion then dies trying to redeem himself. Arthas goes right to the top of being evil and stays there till Blizzard needed raid content. :P
MoreEvilThenMe and also arthas took a long nap on his throne while vador did not
WarCraft 3 was my childhood. WarCraft 2 aswell. Good times :3 . Still remember the summer of 2005, how me and my friends roleplayed warcraft. it was amazing
The Tome of Strength you got for that quest was immediately used by Arthas when he got it. When the game launched you actually had to activate it once it was inside your inventory, but they changed it in a later patch. They didn't update the quest though to explain that.
Edit: Kept watching the video, he ends up guessing what it did later. Well butts.
Yeah.. I have only played wow. I've seen snippets of the pre-games from other youtuber's lore vid's though. Good to see you playing it, gives a chance to see what the storyline and game play is like from the start :)
The Tome of Strength they gave you is just a permanent +2 to strength, it was immediately consumed.
I remember watching my bro play this before in started playing wow in vanilla
Oh and the tome of strength is applied to your hero immediately when he takes it
Tome of Strength used to be a book you can use for permanently more strength, however, with a patch they changed it so that it is automatically used when you receive it.
Warcraft 3 was my jam.
Crendor, can you also turn on subtitles for non-cutscene dialogue in future episodes? Otherwise, remember to break shit for bonus items and explore the map for optional quests :)
When casting spells on friendly units, you can use the interface in the bottom center of the screen to click on the different units
I already love this series. Please try to make the episodes a bit longer, will make it easier for me to fall asleep to. Thanks :-) !
For the next episodes, make sure you explore al ittle more. You can find cool things that can actually help you in the battle.
Im enjoying these a lot, can't get them out fast enough! gj dude
Crendor, before you play as the horde (coming up), you should consider first doing Exodus of the Horde. It's a custom campaign that comes with Frozen Throne. It fills the gap in between Thrall's departure from Eastern Kingdoms and his arrival in Kalimdor. It was originally the demo levels for Warcraft III.
Crendor, when you finish, please start with custom campaigns like Rowan the Wise, Jeopardy of the Horde, LtoC, Rise of the Scourge etc. Some of them are pretty challenging and I'd like to see you play them.
Yes! Been waiting all day for the next episode. Can't wait for the next one. :D
Great series so far, Crendor! Them nostalgia feels!
I went from WarCraft 1/2/3 and Starcraft eventually on to World of Warcraft. My first time playing in vanilla/BC I had the most amazing time just playing through and exploring the world and seeing the story.
Was surprised to see the number of shared icons between this and wow!
Tome of strength used to be a usable item before the frozen throne expansion, but now it is an automatic-use item when collected. It gave your hero bonus strength. A stat affecting his health and attack dmg.
Edit: Also if you spam-click a critter(sheep, boar, toad, etc...) the will eventually explode.
Blizzard CGI cutscenes have always been aweseome.
"Yeah, can the formalities Uther!"
Warcraft 3, one of the best games in my life and ever made. The game that really got me, and many others into WoW. Fond, Fonnnnnd memories of this game.
Damnit Crendor, you forgot Timmy! Now he's gonna get eaten by gnolls.
Welcome to the wonderful world of lore :D
These cinematics are lovely.
I played Warcraft 3 when I was young, it was one of the first games I played and still one of my fav
Please continue making these crendor, i would play thorugh the series myself but i suck at RTS
Man...the cutscenes are fantastic
He has A LOT of confidence in that plan. Apparently it's really loud, too.
Also, did you know that the man who voices King Terenas also voiced Megabyte in ReBoot and the bad guy in The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Crendor im not sure if you know this but when playing as humans you can set multiple workers to build the same building speeding it up a ton.
The good times as a child playing Warcraft 3, i thought those cute scenes was amazing as a kid.
Funny Fact, You can make Arthas leave the cutscene after the first human mission by timing a movement just right (spam it when the mission ends)
So glad you are playing Warcraft 3 :D
Hi Crendor.
I write this because of what you talked about in your intro concerning the format in which to show your Warcraft III playthrough.
I must say, that I find it odd that people object to seeing an older game being shown in its original 4:3 aspect ratio, and instead would like to see their complete screens filled out, but at the cost of having the visual content itself stretched out like it was shown in your intro.
Because W3 apparently can't be properly shown in a widescreen format due to the stretching that occurs, I hope you'll continue showing your future episodes in 4:3 format as it was intended to be shown. Seeing it all stretched out just ruins the experience in my view.
Otherwise, it's just plain fun to hear your reactions to this since you never played the campaign, yet the campaign is what leads into most of the lore of WoW. Hope you're having fun doing this (in the proper aspect ratio, I hope).
Really should explore more. Missing units, quests and experience everywhere.
I mostly only play as Horde, although nothing beats Arthas Story. That is truly the best story ever.
