    I was oddly emotional watching this. I just love Stevie and his music, and seeing people try to explain his greatness is beautiful. Love you, Stevie.

    You have a great Stevie collection! Growing up in the 60’s we would listen to a Canadian radio station (CKLW) which was across the river from Detroit and they always played a ton of Motown. Always enjoy your vids.

      Thanks. I hope to complete Stevie's discography if I can. Sounds good to have lived in an area were Motown is played a lot. Thanks for tuning in. Take care!

    Hi Alex! "Key" will always be #1 in my heart...although you just reminded me to pick up a copy of "Talking" so I'm going to do that in the morning. Cheers!

    Great ranking video. Stevie Wonder is one of my favorites too and while I don't have everything in his 70's catalog, I've got your top 3 and I'd agree with your placing in the standings. Quite honestly, I haven't listened to Key yet. It's living in my crate right now BUT you've inspired me to pull it and play it next week. So thank you for that. Innervisions is killer and Talking Book, while a great album, no doubt, is not a perfect album front to back the way Innervisions is. Maybe I should try doing a ranking video. Hmm...

      Thank Jeff. Glad I've inspired you to listen to Key but I'm wondering what's taken you so long lol (just kidding). Innervisions is brilliant. Anyone who has listened to it can understand why I put it at number one. You should definitely do a ranking video. I'd love to see one!

    Music of my mind is my favorite! I think the reason it is not as celebrated is because it literally has no hits but for me it actually showcases both Stevie at his funkiest (keep on running. love having yo around) and also has some of his most moving ballads (superwoman, feels so long, evil, happier than the morning sun). It also feels like his most raw record and most groundbreakingly original for its time- what he did with synthesisers was revolutionary! Also has no filler! So yeah, I gotta register a strong case for Music of my mind here and urge people who have not heard it for a while to return to it and give it your full attention?

    Secret Life of Plants is one of those albums the label let him do after a series of very successful albums. Wonder's classic period considered by many myself also was Talking Book to Songs In The Key of Life and I found Fulfillingness' First Finale to be a solid effort among is classic albums. A lot of Stevie's music was very syth base during that period. Another artist who was having his classic album during that 1970 to 75 period was Elton John. No matter how you rang the albums from his classic period or the one that is your favorite, you cannot go wrong. Oh yes I love Innervisions as well.

    • @alexspinsvinyl5391
      @alexspinsvinyl5391  5 років тому

      I'm aware of the story. Being an instrumental album and different from the rest, I still had to rank it lower. While his work is synth based, Fulfillingness took me a couple of listens to really get into it.

    Alex, I finally found the time to watch this uninterrupted. Great ranking. I really enjoyed it. Having done ranking videos I know how challenging it can be. Kudos for tackling it! Talking Book is my favorite as well. I’m not as familiar with the first four you showed so I’m not qualified to rank. I’m now interested in checking out mor of Stevie’s discography. Once again, we’ll done!

    I loved that you did a video ranking your favorite Stevie Wonder albums. My favorite is Original Musiquarium. I realize it is cheating a little but I love That Girl and Do I Do and I believe that album was the one those songs originally appeared on. Please correct me if I am wrong. But their are musical gems on every album he made. Well done. Take care.

      @@MelindaMurphy I'm glad to hear that. In Square Circle is the first album by Stevie that I heard. Part Time Lover, Overjoyed and Go Home really caught my attention and made me wonder (no pun intended) what Stevie could do. Then I heard Talking Book and it blew my mind. You're welcome by the way. Hope to see the album appear on your channel soon!

    Alex,Mathis was great well done. Stevie was at his peak in the early to mid 70s. He really came up with a lot of incredible music. I have a lot of his music on vinyl but not like you. Talking Book was my first Stevie album. I do really love Innervisions. Steve

      I’ll agree that Innervisions is his most consistent LP but Songs in the Key of Life is just so epic in scope & has so many great songs that I have to rate it #1. In addition to the songs you named, I absolutely love Black Man, As, & Another Star. The fact that Secret Life of Plants is so different from anything else in his catalog is one of the reasons I ranked it in the top 5. IMO it was way ahead of it’s time. I consider it a precursor to artists like Enya, Yanni, Mannheim Steamroller, etc. IMO all his 70’s LPs were great and I consider my top 6 to be masterpieces.

    I've always rated Innervisions as my favourite Stevie Album but it never quite gets the recognition it fully deserves. It's his most politically aware album covering topics like racial inequality, drug abuse, politics and spirituality. All wrapped up in Steve's signature sound that I can't get enough!!

      Music of my mind at #2 seems rare probably, But my reasoning for this is because it contains this awfully resonating harmony combined with the beginning of my favourite song texture of his Use of high OSC synths, you can hear this in Super Woman, Evil, Seems so long and I think he goes to truly master it in You and I, & They won't go when I go. I think it might be because I'm such an avid listener of Stevie's music and to see an album that contains something he just never comes close to replicating anymore makes it stand out immensely.
