- 1965 Buick Riviera Junkyard Find. Sad day for me as I tried to buy this one from the junkyard only to be told, "sorry, parts only". I imagine by now its been stripped pretty good but as you can see it was all there ans in very restorable shape. I don't have room for another project but I would have made room for this first gen 65 Buick Rivi. While not the top of the line GS, it was still very well equipped with darn near power everything. There was power steering, power brakes, power windows, power driver side bucket seat, factory air conditioning. She was also still sporting a complete drivetrain with a pretty much unmolested 425 nailhead. This version was the 445 wildcat on account of the 445 foot pounds of torque. This is my favorite Buick Riviera with those ultra cool hideaway headlights. I'll don't think I'll ever forget this one. Sadly her time has come.
These rivs were ahead of their time... inside and out an amazing design.like the olds tornado of this era too damn cool...
My heart sank, this generation Riviera is one of my dream cars. They were way ahead of their time.
I'm not sad I'm upset that no one thought of to save this worthy classic.
What a heartbreak. When you closed the doors and they closed that perfect...damn. That interior must have been a beauty back then. What a time capsule. Thanks again for a great video.
The car is dead
Looks like it could be saved, lots of excellent body parts on this one.
Thanks.
Who ever threw that car away is on crack
A Damm fool
She's sweet. Always liked the 65 wildcats too.✌️
THAT IS just Wrong in so many ways
I totally agree. This one hurt me
That is the highest level travesty right there... omg. Literally makes me want to cry. My fav year rivvy... just waiting for the picking to start. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN SAVED.!!!!!!!!.....
That is my dream car, how can some ppl just dispose of them as if trash....
I wonder the same thing.
@Martin Martinez You'd be surprised, I have accumulated a small collection of classic project cars and most of them are drivable now and some stupid young guy (honestly about my age) came to check out a Camry I was flipping and the first thing he says when he gets out of his car is "man you could make a fortune taking all these old cars to the scrapyard" Now mind you he's talking about cars that are all in decent shape and drivable except for a couple of the backburner projects and even those are desirable models in decent shape. It takes a moron of epic proportions to see a mostly complete, rare classic car that has survived 30-40-50 years in decent shape and think "hey that thing should be destroyed in exchange for a fraction of a fraction of its value" Fools like that are the kind of people I'm saving these cars from.
Mine too I have been in love with he 65 Riv since I was a kid I'm 40 now but my uncle use to have one and I always wanted one ever since the clamshell headlights and that dash with the console that connects to the dash it's just a awesome car and that car is in great shape. It get's me mad when I see something like that in the bone yard and they won't sell it it's BS big time
Definitely a rare find brother. '65 Riviera brought me home from the hospital after I was born. My dad's car. I remember the hideaway headlights and the big center console. He'd go through the drive through car wash and there was no dryer at the end so he would pull out on to the highway and nail it! Once it got up over 100 mph the water would just bead right off! You couldn't wipe the grin off my face.
One of the coolest cars ever produced
Love your video, bought a '64 in '79, it looked a lot like this, full of water, restored it. Mine had no rust, this one, unfortunately, is moreso a loss because of so much rust. When I bought mine, I really wanted a '65 GS, but missed out on it, and settled for the '64. Either way, kept it for a few years, but let it go after I found a '69 Eldorado that captured my heart.
Most perfectly beautiful American car ever built.
William J Darby, 1913-2001 You can google this man. I believe he owned the car. Great video brother!
Thanks
Just looked him up. This man made a great contribution to medicine and nutrition. It's a shame his car has ended up like this, having survived this long.
Good research. What makes you think he was the owner?
@@googleusergp The car has been sitting since his actual death. It all matches up.
By far my favorite Rivi. Love those hideaway headlights.
This is My favorite as well. I really wanted to save it.
Hey thats just like the one from Roadhouse, color and all.
Useful Entertainment, that’s the first thing that can to mind, Roadhouse 🤜👊
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩🍩☕️👀😎👍 I fell in love 1963 as kid with this model ! 🍸🍸⚰️⚰️ RIP 5:17
Now that was a Buick! Better than the rebadged Opel junk they make today.
Was für ein schöner Wagen. Grüsse aus Deutschland
Whoa Nelley, rare duck. I know of a shop that is restoring one of these for a customer, so I'm passing this along to them too. The service sticker in the door says "July 5, 1979" which is matched by the Dymo label on the air cleaner. Looks like it got an oil, filter and lube that day, which was a Thursday and right after the July 4th holiday, so the station was probably closed.
Here we go on the VIN: 4 for Buick, 94 for Riviera, 47 for two door hard top, 5 for 1965 model year, H for Flint, MI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. This was the first year for the "new" VIN system that would go from 1965 to 1971 on passenger cars. The dealer could have been Tyson Buick, located at 1022 Lamar Street in Forth Worth. No longer there and Google map doesn't show a precise location for that address, but it might be one of the lots that I see when I do a Google map search. It also shows that it could have been located at 999 University Drive in Fort Worth, that's also something else now.
Trim tag is: 12C for the third week of December 1964 production, 65 is for 1965 model year, 49447 is for Buick Riviera, FB is for Flint, MI assembly, Trim 604 should be tan/saddle bucket seats, NN is Burgandy Mist upper and lower exterior paint, which it still appears to be (albeit with some touch up over the years), EXT is E-Z Eye Glass (E), Power Windows, except vent (X), and power four way seat (T). 2KR should be factory A/C and rear seat speaker, not sure on 3T (possibly electric antenna?), 4F is remote mirror, 5K should be door guard moldings and 5W should be custom seat belts.
WOW 😀
@@garbage854 ?
@@googleusergp A really cool Buick 😀
Love to read your information.
Thanks
Thanks.
Man it's sad see all the American classic car in the junkyard
This was my first car out of high school except in white. That thing was a dream to drive!
Man I wish I was alive in the 70s
It deserves to be rescued no matter what anybody tries to say!
Unfortunately it was not to be.
This Era Riviera is definitely my dream car of all time.
had a 67...had to leave her in 99. never been the same since. buick riviera, a dream ride
That car is valuable now. One day a car like that will be 100K
Buick fan. I can hear it in your voice🤣i spy a 68-69 too!
Tyson Buick of Fort Worth....is the sticker of the dealership on the back....
man thats beautiful
What a cool car yep the rivieras and tornadoes were ahead of there time just about in all their model years
I hope this gets restored someday.. The 63 to 65 Rivieras are beautiful cars and quite collectible..
Unfortunately her days are numbered.
I'm with you on that one: Damn. Friend of mine had a '63 w/a 401 Nailhead at the same time I had a '68 Electra w/the 430. That car deserves better than to be turned a parts car. NO respect for the classics.
Had a 69 Electra 225 w/430. My dad bought it new. Had it parked on a relatives driveway until a crazy neighbor complained to the county and I had to make a snap decision on what to do with it. That was back in 2004 and I still regret sending to its demise.
You Texicans sure junk some nice cars. Us Yankees love cars like this 64 Rivera.
Unbelievable!! Yet, I believe it, because I saw two come to an end like that in Birmingham over the last decade. I was able to get quite a lot of parts from one for my Riviera. The other car actually went to the shredder and no dismantling was allowed! These people obviously are clueless and/or heartless.
A few parts were saved on this one. But still plenty was left when they crushed it
This is a national treasure and is a crime to end here.
Back when they Detroit made really good cars.
Sad to see it junked. Happy new year
Damn shame the junkyards hate the old iron bro! I wish you could have had her!!!
that buick could of been saved nice rivi classic ride
So I hate to tell you this after you waited so long to see it , but I had a friend that had one of those. The power trunk isn't exactly power. It's the cable like the hood. You could have opened the trunk. You find the most awesome stuff. Your videos are entertaining. You're a cool guy and you know the good cars.
Appreciate the info. At least now I know for next time. 👍
.
that is sad. Why would the yard not try to sell it whole before parting...
My guess is they figured they would get more in parts. They don't care what it is. It's all about the 💰
So fucking restorable!......... I saved my 70' nova from a a hole years ago.damn homey!
You're torturing me bro.
65 the best year for the Rivera
That's funny! He pulled out a business card from, wouldn't you know it, ALL STATE! That's hilarious!
Their TITLE says ALL STATE, but they don't COVER 'ALL STATES'! Amazing!
I usually gauge a car’s ability to be restored by the body and chassis condition. If there’s massive rot in the floor/trunk panels, massive sections of the body and structure rot, then no, send it to the crusher after any usable parts are stripped.
But this car is solid. Floor boards, body, chassis. It’s a shame it’s never getting restored because it’s really not that bad. The interior can all be redone, as long as the block isn’t cracked the engine can be rebuilt, and with good loving care this car can be road worthy again in a year or showroom condition in a couple years without breaking the bank.
Sorry to see it go like this. The ‘65s with those headlights are rare and worth restoration.
I almost cried
looks like the one dalton drove in road house.
that's a easy fixer, what a shame, that should be saved, I love the Buick 65 Riviera, best GM car ever.
According to the body plate, this is one of the last ever produced 65 Rivieras. 12C stands for production date Dezember week 3.
That is December 1964 not 1965.
Dalton= ‘These work? Sure do, I’ll take it’
He knew the bar flies would trash his car so he parked his Mercedes, smart man.
What a shame. This shit happens daily all across the country. You would think that somebody, anybody, at the junk yard would've realized what they had and put it off to the side to sell whole. I'm just sick about this one. What a beautiful car
it just break my heart
Makes me sick to my stomach a rare beauty
That is worthy of saving
If somebody don't buy or steal that car talking about a parts car okay what the problem is? That's a straight Beauty
You're killing me
You're breakin' my heart.
If you'll watch the Netflix series comedians in cars getting coffee, Jerry Seinfeld drives one of these in this color. Very stunning car.
Damn. That sucks! Someone is crazy for not at least selling it for restoration.
It hurt to hear them say parts only
@@ClassicRideSociety glad you saved the motor. Put a 4bbl on that sucker. Love your channel....appreciate it.
That's a Buick 401 Nailhead the 445 on the air cleaner is the torque rating some people think it's the size of the engine but it's not the 65 Riv came standard with a 401 Nailhead 325 hp and 445 tq
Hi guys at classic ride society, im a new subscriber. Cowboy car crushing pointed me in your direction :) im enjoying your channel
Appreciate it 👍
I just subscribed because of this vid bro
What a shame, hard to find them and people junk them
How does it go from point A to the junkyard, passing so many people without being bought? An example is if my neighbor owned it and told me he was going to junk it I would have bought it that afternoon. How does it happen? Some people are just stupid. Stuff like this is history. In short, it's greatness that's never going to be produced again, and every time one is needlessly gone, it's simply that...needlessly gone! What a shame.
Most definitely a candidate for a restoration
1965 Riviera is my favorite Buick of all time I'm in love with that car I've always wanted to get one it's a damn shame that car is in the bone yard someone really needs a kick to the teeth tossing a car like that away. Man I'm so fucking pissed
if its solid, the guy who owned it wasn't a bouncer at the double deuce.
Rescue her she's worth restoring n driving her back on the road again.
She's long gone. They crushed her a good while back
Agreed......should've been saved....she was loaded......
I so sad!. See this cars in this conditions!.. all rivieras are very elegant!.. i hope it find a new owner for restore!. This is complete for restore!..
Unfortunately she wont be saved
A nice car when new now a rusty wreck from a fading empire
It’s the 401, if it was the 425 it would have said 465 on the air cleaner. And yes the 445 on the air cleaner is the torque.
im tearing up!
I'm literally sick bout that..why junk it?? I'm going to go cry in corner.
I wasn't born until 1967 but I was thinking the Buick Riviera, this one in particular had hide away lights but could be wrong.
Must have been on the east coast at some point. For that kind of rust . I guess if it sat down by the coast areas it could rust out like that in Texas.
OMG. Parts only. I had one back in the 70's with the 401 nail and the tow package- 2- 4 barrels. Wish I had never sold it.
Don't understand why some owners don't put it up for sale. They don't make any money selling to a junk yards.
Some have to die so others may live...
I totally agree. Just didn't think this one deserved to die
They say its parts only right.... go in there and start taking every part so you can begin the restoration in your garage.
The dealership was Tyson Buick in Fort Worth, used to be on the corner of 199 & University.
My Riviera was the same color when I had it I was the jerk of the day.
Any old coins in the little pouch?
I totally forgot about it as I so into the car itself
I know this is an older video classic ride society but I just have to ask is the car or at least what's left of it still at the junkyard or has it been permanently removed from existence?
Wow, what a waste...😱great car😍😎
What is the difference of a t3 headlights from regular ones?
too bad it doesn't have the hidden headlights.
I would drive it as is for my daily. Take my girl friend around. Shot, and my wife. Nice car.
Patrick Swayze's car on Roadhouse!
wow they could have made mad money
That is so sad.
Buy it with no title then get it retitled. It may not be able to be titled in your state but it can be registered again some how.
Eventually I bet someone redoing one of these will take the good sheet metal off of this....
I hope you're right cause this yard doesn't hold onto them for very long. They move inventory regularly
Must be an Obama relative working in that salvage yard. Nobody in there right mind would destroy that car.
Sadly they will make a fair amount of money parting it out....old parts are big bucks...getting hard to find....We had a guy in our town that had a gold one with the factory dual quads, he had a bumper sticker that said "Happiness is a low ET"...
Looks like shes all there and not a ton of rust...
She was and the worst was in the trunk but still worth saving
Happy New Year BTW..
Same to you 👍
@@ClassicRideSociety Happy New Year, Benny.
@@googleusergp same to you as well 👍
It breaks my heart to see such a beautiful machine like that get scrapped, it deserved a better fate. I'm actually very surprised the scrapyard didn't offer it as a whole car, considering how rare the clamshell headlight models are now. But at least you got the motor/trans, so at least the heart of it will live on :)
