If you are watching this video now, feel free to watch the whole thing, but I do have a new shoe I fully recommend. Check out that video here: ua-cam.com/video/C3hDUMsAeVo/v-deo.html
I was able to get my Vivo’s for $135, 25% off, by ‘referring a friend’, AKA using my email to refer myself through my other email. Also if you have a student email you can get 15% off as well if for some reason you have issues with referring yourself!
Strongly recommend the primus trail II FG version. Haven’t had any grip issues. I have been pulling and benching in them for ~2 years and I have a positive shin angle while benching. The sole is a bit thicker also so you might not get that roll you mentioned. Great review as always David!
Ha yea I was actually really interested in checking out a lot of their other styles that had high tops but I’m already in way too deep financially into this shoe project and have to stop.
look into Gul water shoes, i got them and swapped the elastic laces for actual laces and they have a slightly thicker sole with alot better grip, the pattern on the bottom is similar to the sumo sole notorious lifts
You know, someone (wink-wink-nudge-nudge) should tell SBD to basically just carbon copy the Reebok shoe, make it have a sleek black/red look and sell it as the SBD Powerlifting Shoe. They would dominate the flat powerlifting shoe market in no time.
Bro it would kill other brands but yeah they should def do red/black as standard and change colors for different collections like phantom all black or eclipse, defy
I have tried them. At least the originals and really didn’t like them. They were the thickest of any shoe that I tried. I also know saw one of the newer versions of the shoe and saw that they have a built/glued in insole. Maybe all of that is wrong as I personally don’t own the shoes anymore, but I’ve never thought much of those shoes.
Maybe a little bit. It would definitely help because one of the problems with the low rise ones was the “slop.” But I met a guy in the gym a week or two ago with the high tops and he tried to remove the insole and it was glued in or something. Those shoes were thicker than any other shoe I tried so I’m just not that interested in returning when there are better high top options like the sabo pros and these vivos are better anyway.
A have the same opinions as you. Can’t find a good shoes for powerlifting manly because I feel kinda instability in my heels with those barefoot shoes. I think it is because those shoes are a bit rounded in the heel. Have you tried Xero Shoes ? And abou the Metal powerlifting shoes ? Thanks for the videos, I did a amazing job reviewing.
Thanks for the review! Got a pair. If we’re optimizing for stability and the minimum distance off the ground via taking soles out, are there any specific powerlifting socks you would recommend? I feel like they could play as much a role as a sole of a shoe does.
I really wouldn’t think it matters that much unless you are wearing some crazy thick sock. Any athletic sock is fine. Or go grab you some SBD deadlift socks and use my link
been wanting to bite the bullet on these for a while. I like my reebok TRs or whatever the newest is called, but sumo is still meh because of how much moving around within the shoe happens. Think I'll give em a spin now.
How long would the sole last? The problem that I experienced with deadlift slippers and shoes are very bad sole durability. Notorious lift and Sabo Pro sole lasted only for 5-7month and they are worn out.
I absolutely love these shoes .. but the durability is garbage. I run in mine in addition to deadlift in them and I keep getting the top of the toe box falling apart after 3-4 months. It’s happened with all 3 Primus shoes I’ve owned.
I am once again advocating (aka shilling) for vans slip ons or the authetics. 7mm sole which you can also remove, cheap af, zero drop and look good imo. Absolutely no "slop" or heel roll.

I’ve been wearing inside and outside the gym for 4 months now. You nailed this review. Didn’t miss a thing.

@@BrazosValleyStrength damn if that ain't the truth, thanks for doing all the reviews!
Just found your. Honestly underrated ur camera quality is insane. And u have two different camera angles which is nice. Same with ur lighting
Glad to finally see an actual in depth review for these!
Great vid as always ! Thank you David !
I think the Vivobarefoot Motus Strength addresses all of your concerns in the video.
They are also $200 when the Avancus are better and $90.
@@BrazosValleyStrengthSo u did test the Motus Strenght?
Thanks for this review. Very thorough. I think I’ll have to give them a try, appreciate it.
i wear an 11.5 and sized down to an 11. It fits perfectly.
love these shoe reviews, very comprehensive
Thanks for great review!
Have you tried the Puma Fuse 3.0 Men's Training shoe?
Have you tried the Merrill Vapor Glove shoes? Similar to Vivo but a much better sole.

GUL Backshore

Not SBD, but I do have a shoe I am helping with coming out soon. Should have a lot more info soon
You might want to check out Bearfoot shoes. I've heard that they're very grippy, and they're also less expensive

@@BrazosValleyStrength good to know 👍
I assume narrow stance squatters and conventional deadlifters would work better with these shoes?
I'm trying all the shoes you recommended and Reebok's can do the trick but still feel better in old skool vans
I know you previously reviewed the Bearfoot Ursus, but would your opinion differ from the lowtops to the hightops?
Maybe a little bit. It would definitely help because one of the problems with the low rise ones was the “slop.” But I met a guy in the gym a week or two ago with the high tops and he tried to remove the insole and it was glued in or something.

are these supposed to have a lil space in the toebox despite downsizing already?
I just ordered these and was not expecting this much room in the toe box. How have they been for you?
@@akay5036i had to return then and size down again, im originally a size 8 in us i had to go down to 39 eu

When u say slippers is that a brand or model or do you actually mean slippers
I currently have the sabos and I am a conventional deadlifter. do you recommend the vivo over the sabos?
I have a new shoe coming out in about a month that is better than either
Great review, David! I’m curious whether you still prefer the Reebok Power Lite or fell for these Vivo’s haha
I still prefer the reeboks
@@BrazosValleyStrength good to know since I have the reeboks and not too keen to try the vivos. Thanks!
Which brand are your wrist wraps for Deadlift? I think i could benefit from the extra width... thanks!
Hey David, I signed up for your online coaching almost a week ago but didn’t get a response yet. Do I need to sign up again?
Nope it’s sitting in my inbox. Been a busy week but I’ll respond to it today. Sorry about that.
came for the review, stayed for the personality! you remind me so much of strange parts i wonder if you two are actually related
Hi David! Did you remove the inner sole of your Reebok shoes? It is glued in and seems to be a bit thick in general
Yes. Mine is not and I haven’t heard that from anyone else either. Do you have the older style? They may be different than the ones I have

That already exists

You’ll be fine on the soles. I have a pair with around 1000 miles from running. Sole is nearly fine. The most durable sole of any shoe I’ve owned.
@@bobbyiv9335 walking on concrete? Curious how they hold up for daily wear (not a runner)
@@orlog3343 all of those miles on concrete. You’re good to go! The rest of the shoe will wear out before the sole
They have leather versions too maybe that's what you're really after 😉👌
The problem with these type of shoes is that you cannot ware them for sports like tennis, pickleball, badminton, squash, etc.
This is a powerlifting channel

Sk8 Hi's are my go to
I’d go for them but I have wide ass feet, and vans are a bit narrow for me
Seem very similar to the old nb minimus shoes
Yea they are. I had some of those a long time ago. These are thinner though.
I own low top feelgrounds and they are absolutely shit for anything powerlifting related. But they are super comfy for day to day use
This makes me feel better for never trying them. Thank you.
