I agree but in case of Charles tho, Jim wasn't really focused. Flirted with Pam, pulled pranks on Dwight. If Michael wasn't his boss he wouldnt have pulled any of that at least not to that level
For some odd reason? His first encounter with Jim was him in a tux -- at work. And Jim's subsequent impressions went downhill from there. There was a very good reason...
6:33 I love how Charles tries to shift the blame to Jim for ducking, like he didnt kick the ball with all his strength in this friendly match of overweight sales people
Lol, the show really portrays Jim as one of the "normal" people in the Office, and seeing interact with this guy really puts it into perspective, he is just as nuts as Dwight or Michael
I guess Jim is actually nuts in a few ways, but it sounds really unfair to put him in the same level as Dwight and Michael. Those two are totally unrealistic!
Plus the free and easy work environment that Michael promotes in the office is bound to take its toll on anyone who would work there. Imagine if your boss had next to no rules and was goofy and just wanted to hang and have fun all day. Even the “normal people” in the office would eventually become more lax in their duties.
@MR. MISTER Ok, thanks. I thought maybe Jim & Pam had just returned from a vacation the week before, or something like that..... It's still a totally jerk thing for Charles to say, I think. If I really thought that about a subordinate, I still couldn't bring myself to say it at what appears to be a social function, much less in front of the man's fiancee.
Actually in every world they are the villian. Usually spoil sports just sucking up to the upper management. Can't just go with the flow. Have to make their presence known. Want get shit right... Boy I am rolling my eyes so hard.🙄
Funniest thing tho was that being second in command was given to him by David himself, unlike Dwight. He could’ve just told Charles that the whole second in command thing came from David and Charles probably would of backed off.
The music and effects had me in TEARS. This relationship always made me feel awkward but not anymore! Knowing Idris Elba almost broke makes it even better.
Knowing jim, you can tell he was trolling with that idea..but the fact that Charles doesn’t know Jim like that (or like him) makes it’s hilarious...Jim felt sooo embarrassed..😂😭
When Charles comes in and Micheal says “party planning committee. Not your concern” I felt like a true father just saved me from a bully and discomfort there.
@@je7450 I only know him from The Wire and in that series he was really cold and humorless. In real life he's very charismatic if you watch some of his interviews.
If I was Jim, I would've just kept my head down until I got a read on Charles. You're risking a lot if you try joking around with someone who doesn't like jokes (or is a jerk).
The 'rundown' Charles was asking for is a report on all of Jim's clients so he could redistribute them to the rest of Sales. It was telling Jim he was about to get fired in all but asking him to clean out his desk. Just reposting what I saw from a top comment here in the past.
Pretty sure a rundown is a listing of all his clients and what their standing orders are and a snapshot of monthly sales for an specific number of months and whether sales are trending up or down. Just a guess
I love how Charles kicked a soccer ball as hard as he possibly could at someone’s face and then acted like it was somehow Jim’s fault that the ball he kicked at someone’s face hit someone in the face
It was in the parking lot and he was less than 10 ft away. Like why did he feel the need to kick it that hard when they were that close? Charles was 100% trying to hit Jim in the face and you can’t convince me otherwise.
@@liebestitch689 Charles lost Michael because Jim helped Michael and given Jim still had his job at Dunder Mifflin by the end, unlike Charles, I think it safe to say Jim did win the war.
Titaneers2 Exactly! Someone should have pointed that out. I get that injuries and accidents happen in soccer but there’s no reason for Charles to literally kick the ball for it to go up in the air which would have forced Jim to either catch it to prevent injury to himself or he would have still moved out of the way to prevent a foul...cause the trajectory was too low for Jim to chest bump the ball away. So Charles is just a crack of shit throughout his role on The Office.
Rundown: It's like pointing a gun at some one and making them dig their own grave. Jim's clients would be redistributed among the remaining sales staff or new hire. Charles is prepping for firing Jim.
Doctor 49 bro Jim is the only guy in the office that makes the whole show good. (Not saying the others isn’t but I think that Jim is more funnier and somehow relatable with the audience.) Also I like your David tennant pfp ;)
Gotta give props to Charles tho. Before he came into the picture, Jim was like the coolest person on the show. After Charles showed up, Jim turned into a try-hard, broken shell of his former self.
It shows that Jim is a big fish in a small pond who isn't being challenged. He turns into a stuttering fool the second anyone who can keep their cool (so not Dwight) challenges him. This experience does humble him and it's after this (and becoming a father) you see him take a much more serious look at his work
@@rohunsaigal2576 I’m generally with Charles on this. After a few seasons Jim’s antics got annoying. Even got irritated at how he treated Dwight, who was just taking some pride in his work. S LJ id assume it’s because they know their sales, it’s so they have a good idea of how to continue providing the product after the said person gets fired
In reality, this makes him a bad boss. The first incident of him being critical of the fancy suit was fine, but his unwillingness to communicate with Jim affected his work and business relationship. That man wasn't manager material.
Also the guy pulls power moves on Jim all over the place to make him feel inadequate. That and his propensity for Dwight really does show that he was interested in a bootlicker that would do what he said. Jim displayed too much of a personality for his taste, and he perceived him as being too close to Michael so he was clearly trying to either grind him down or fire him completely. Say what you will about Michael, but he was never an authoritarian. Sometimes that was to his detriment, but he didn't try to make his employees feel small like Charles did.
Evan Sageser well I’d say micheal enjoys the power he has over his employees.... he is quick to take offence and when Gabe and Charles come into the picture he gets upset..... and why do you think he hates Toby the most!? Cause he has the power to tell him no!
Terrible boss. Very poor communication skills, and his attitude toward Michael was the catalyst for Michael's paper company being formed, which ultimately cost Dunder-Mifflin a chunk of change.
The way Charles absolutely blasts that ball was just insane. If it hit Jim, it would have hurt. If it missed Phyllis, it was taking out that car window.
Charles really cares that his employees are being professional and doing their work while does not care that there's cameraman that follows everyone at the office
Nadzmi Haron nah he’s just a pain to work with, constantly snapping at your employees for simple questions isn’t going to encourage your employees too work hard they are just going to resent you the rest of the work week, thus slowing down production, thus a loss in productivity and Money

Creed and Kevin are the most Mysterious characters in the office. One theory i read on reddit is that,Creed was never an employee. he simply walked into the office and started working. Also, that the real name of creed is William Charles Schneider and he made the real Creed "disappear" and stole his identity.
Idris Elba's American accent is perfect. When I first saw Charles Minor in the original run I never suspected he was being portrayed by an English actor.
“Aw...but you didn’t.” Jim got in the best jab between him and Charles with THAT line (embarrassing him in from of David Wallace). I remember how satisfying that moment felt the first time watching it.
@David Garcia Jim had some very bad habits and had some serious personal issues, and while in a real life office setting I wouldn't have minded him taking shots at a real life Dwight, it's still very unprofessional and disruptive, among other things. Was he a BULLY? That's up to each person to decide. Was he Bullying an easy target with elaborate jokes that could occasionally be mean or very distracting? Yes, and often
Julian Tapia i wouldnt call Dwight an easy target simply bc he was susceptible to pranks. Despite being pranked on all the time, he could never be a victim of bullying with his personality. That’s one reason why the pranks were funny and harmless.
I know exactly how Jim felt. I had this boss once and our sense of humour wasn't compatible AT ALL. We just couldn't communicate properly. She'd ask for something and I couldn't understand what exactly it was that she wanted. I'd explain something to her but she wouldn't buy it because it was hard to make myself clear. Anyways, she was a nice boss and eventually it clicked. But it was so weird at first and I'm pretty sure I came across as an incompetent slacker a few times
Will tell you by the secret some bosses are really stupid. Especially when in scientific job: 《It's impossible. - Then make it possible! - lol wut? How the f i suppose to do that?!? Maybe you want me to turn water into wine?》

Martin Simard not only that, but wouldn’t that actually be good because then it would go out of bounds and go to your team instead of risking an injury and maybe not getting the ball. I don’t know if there’s a rule against that or something tho so idk
People hate on Charles but if it wasn't for him we wouldn't see stuff like this man, The whole show Jim is this unstoppable cool guy no matter what, he`s not awkward, he doesn't get flustered or angry anything like that and for once in the show we actually see this and I love it lol
Jim was a cool guy *and* socially awkward. He did get flustered and angry in the early seasons. It's the inconsistent characterisation which is the issue in later seasons.
When Charles kicks the ball at Jim. What was Jim supposed to do. Charles kicks it so powerfully that there would be no way of Jim chest controlling it or heading it without getting injured
This dude is like the real world office boss. Everyone hates him and he is part of the reason that office work is so horrible. Michael is the boss that everyone secretly wants, so everyone loves him. Brilliant writing and acting
Except everything Jim does would be chastised by a competent boss. Also a horrible boss wouldn't take the time talk with the office about personal things such as sports and attending an event for them play together. Soooooo.... hes seems a good boss who is hard on the guy he considers lazy. one who very few would hate.
no, no, no.... no, no. Charles was annoying but he was at least professional, so if you did your job he wouldn't have a problem with you. Michael however is annoying in pretty much any circumstance. He doesn't appreciate all the things Dwight does for him, he did his level best to ruin Phyllis' wedding, he sexually harassed Oscar, he interfered in Stanley's love life, he body shamed Meredith and he continues to employ Creed and Kevin, who pretty much do nothing. Not to mention dozens of other ignorant actions and the 10 years he was manager before the camera crew came. Essentially, the only people who like him are those who agree with his bad humour like Dwight and who are too mundane to change jobs... which is almost everybody in the office. Andy was the best manager. He was kind, actually recognised workplace boundaries, tried to make others happy and not himself, brought in new tactics that raised sales therefore keeping everyone safe from being let go and above all included everyone in discussions, unlike Deangelo who was sexist and Michael who would forcibly include random people
And the most ignorant. Demeaning an employee in front of his wife. A good manager understands the power dynamic and wouldn't treat his worst employee that way outside work.
@@Aureliano_Babilonia Really? So basically your saying even tho Jim already do was carrying dundeemifflin HARD and made so many sales that he could slack off a a lot, your saying he should spend his time doing more stuff that would probably be stupid and make barley any difference since he wouldn’t be doing sales since he would of already made tons of tjem
Looking back a Rundown of your clients is not confusing at all. List of clients, what they do, how long they've been serviced by Dunder Mifflin, primary contact, and potential for more sales or risks of losing their business
Well when you work for Michael. You don't really know anything. Phyllis even said at the end she work for a paper company for years and never wrote down anything in a paper lol
I would love to have a Michael boss that lets me work as much as I want without breathing down my neck. I'm a workaholic, but I have problems with authority when said authority is constantly trying to show their power over me
I remember watching the Charles Arc as it aired back in middle school and laughing at and hating him all at the same time. Fast forward 12 years and boy did I not give this show enough credit as a kid (how could I). Up till recently I had a boss JUST LIKE CHARLES except she often threw emotional tantrums and had everyone in the office walking on eggshells around her. The way he was saying Jim was a disappointment and fell short of expectations gave me PTSD because that's what my boss was saying about me less than 5 months into the job, yet my other bosses and coworkers had nothing but kind and/or honest critiques of me. If a person like this gets it into their head that they don't like you, then there's nothing you can do to change it. Better off not trying to please them and doing your best within your role at the job, even if they don't fully define your role (setting you up for failure) but that's another topic.
Theres nothing wrong with Charles being assertive, however as a manager he does little to make his employees feel accepted and valued. He’s more like a king ruling his peasantry than a leader guiding his warriors.
Jim went well out of his way to build some rapport with him, but Charles almost immediately shut him down. He didn't want to know. It was a small office, so it's important to have collaboration and no cold feelings. At least that's how it's supposed to work in the Professional field.
Charles Minor was a great short addition and a nice contrast between him and Michael. It disrupts the anything goes atmosphere of the office and shows its a real job with real consequences. It also ups the tension and cringe factor since Jim finds himself as the underdog and struggles to get into Charles good graces.
Charles was not a real life boss.Or actually he was, because most bosses are toxic like this and will twist certain employees words and actions to make them feel dumb.
He wanted to Get Rid Of Him, Everyone knows that The Assistant To The Regional Manager Has Alot of Power. Taking Him out means Charles Gets All The Power,And Him Getting All The Power,Makes him The Same Level as Manager
Yeah I Charles aimed in his direction but that shot wasn’t really hard and not that high either, you can see that him ducks really deep and if he would have stayed on his feet he maybe could have blocked it
Charles wanted a rundown of Jim’s clients so he could redistribute his clients once he got fired. Charles is the real world boss but isn’t manager material. No matter what jim does Charles finds something wrong about it.
@@n00bforever A rundown in a sales context is basically a summary report of all clients. Statuses, contact info, location, sales agreements etc The distribution list in this context is a list of people in the company that you have preset so you can easily email them all at once without having to manually type out all those names. So with that in mind, Charles likely wanted to disperse Jim’s clients throughout the company so he could fire him.
One thing I never understood was why Jim explained his position as Assistant Manager that way. Jan literally made it a real position and gave him a raise so it’s not made up, it might not be really legit but at the same time having an assistant manager isn’t foreign for a company
to be fair, it probably skipped his mind when the guy said he didn’t know the position existed. The history behind it is significantly vague to explain to a higher-up that you feel dislikes you.
CinnPai except the fact that any normal person would take pride in their position, it’s the thing that determines your pay grade, and Jim spends a lot of time holding it over Dwight’s head, I find it unlikely that Jim would suddenly forget the job he’s being paid to do isn’t actually real, Jan gave it to him to help make sure Michael didn’t do something stupid
The b superman baby What is the part of the body is called knee and what sound does a dog make when it's angry Once you crack it you have the b superman baby
Was he? He's directly the cause of the company losing a substantial amount of money to the Michael Scott Paper Company. And his efforts did nothing to prevent Dunder Mifflin's bankruptcy and sale to Sabre. Also, the ONLY successful branch was also the only branch that he was banned from interfering with.
Charles is not a competent boss. He's a terrible communicator, making employees unsure what tasks they should be performing and what deliverables are expected. He came with an immediate change in the branches culture, forcing employees to adapt to a much different routine. He also was an authoritarian figure, appreciated only by the office's sociopath. And even he couldn't actually delegate any tasks properly to Dwight (all he does is take notes).
@@fxde1643yeah agreed Dwight definitely is not a sociopath, he’s still shown to care about people at the end of the day, even if it’s in some absurdly ridiculous way
That rundown thing was totally Charles fault tho. Jim asked for clarification and Charles gave unspecific help, vague timeline, and showed micromanaging. Charles is like a week old in this company so of course Jim is correct for asking clarification on what Charles wants.
@@alwaysfaithfulalwaysforwar9400 lol this has nothing to do with feelings, it has to do with the boss clearly not stating what he wants. If a boss can’t clearly project and specify what he wants he can’t get mad when the employee does a job that isn’t satisfactory. In every workplace you need clear communication and understanding. Sure Jim should’ve tried to ask for more clarification.
I also liked it when Jim tried to mess with Andy Bernard after his transfer by putting his calculator in jelly like how he messed with Dwight, only to discover to his horror that Andy was not someone to mess with. He was a real coward when Andy flipped his lid!
Something that has always driven me nuts is the fact that a guy as witty as Jim could have easily given Charles a response regarding his tuxedo that would not have put so much negative attention on him
Jim isn't all that witty around strangers. In fact, everytime he's shown interacting with new people, he's awkward and uncomfortable. Also, remember in the first season, when Jim tries to explain to Roy about his truce with dwight? That's very similar to this scene, as he always seems to over-explain things and make himself seem foolish.
Some people give off like an intimidating vibe with the confidence that they have in themselves, that comes from their presence. This probably overpowered Jim's usual confidence and made him a little nervous, thus making him mess up.
He's looking past Jim... Past Jim's future that is, a Future where society has fallen and all governments have collapsed. A future where only does with superior genes and superior brain power will reign supreme. A future where Jim Halpert no longer exists. Be assured this day will come, could be 1 month, could be 2 months

Jim: "Well, ya know, since it was made up by the CFO of the WHOLE COMPANY, it's probably a good idea to keep it. Just saying." At least, that's what I would've said.
@BullseyeBullsclaw Well, first of all, that's pretty aggressive way to respond to a comment that, for all intents and purposes, is an opinion. Second of all, since the position started as a made-up title, then become an official position in the company, the statement stands.
@BullseyeBullsclaw Let's agree to disagree on this, otherwise we could be going back and forth for a while. You like Charles, I like Jim; I can only speak for myself when I say this but, this debate seems to spring from a need to defend our favorite characters in this situation.

@@TheChohzenOne Assistant TO the Regional Manager
Yeah I Charles aimed in his direction but that shot wasn’t really hard and not that high either, you can see that him ducks really deep and if he would have stayed on his feet he maybe could have blocked it
"Come along, afterthought"
Hands down the best line in this😂😂😂
Nope not hands down
Not the best
Not even close
As much as I despised the Charles character, I do like when Dwight fires a bit back at Jim.
"Must be nice to get some rest from that rest" was pretty good.
i’ll prove you wrong.
*tweedle dee, tweedle dumbass.*
It’s funny how Jim was the first choice for David Wallace, the CFO. Yet Dwight says Jim is an afterthought, although Charles is lower than Wallace
Brilliant editing here.
Jim and the dreaded ‘rundown’ and
his soccer duck were the best.
And for my next trick I will make my career disappear😀
The best bit is Dwight going "Awwww the new boss doesn't think Jim is adorable...." in relation to the whole thing
*football
cindybin2001 😀
iorekby absolutely he took great pleasure in that
Can someone please tell us what he actually meant by a ‘rundown’?
I honestly loved the Charles vs. Jim dynamic, Jim was always a know-it-all and Charles humbled him real quick.
Charles wanted a rundown of Jim’s clients so he could redistribute his clients once he got fired. Charles is the real world boss but isn’t manager material. No matter what jim does Charles finds something wrong about it.
Yeap. All that negative emotion drains creative people like Jim and he either:1. Gets fired 2. Works more and more but is miserable
I'm no expert but I think if he wanted the rundown faxed to the distribution list he wasn't going to fire him at that point?
@@n00bforever A rundown in a sales context is basically a summary report of all clients. Statuses, contact info, location, sales agreements etc
The distribution list in this context is a list of people in the company that you have preset so you can easily email them all at once without having to manually type out all those names.
So with that in mind, Charles likely wanted to disperse Jim’s clients throughout the company so he could fire him.
Honestly jim brought it on himself
One thing I never understood was why Jim explained his position as Assistant Manager that way. Jan literally made it a real position and gave him a raise so it’s not made up, it might not be really legit but at the same time having an assistant manager isn’t foreign for a company
Continuity error
he was defnitely flustered
to be fair, it probably skipped his mind when the guy said he didn’t know the position existed.
Jim’s enemy or not, I’m glad that Idris Elba was in The Office.
The b superman baby
What is the part of the body is called knee and what sound does a dog make when it's angry
Once you crack it you have the b superman baby
I never noticed in the avengers, but idris elba is really tall.
These were some of the absolute best episodes!
The fact the he made Jim feel bad is what made me love Charles
Doctor 49 lol that and he is aware of the effect he has on women 😂
What's even funnier is that Charles Miner was one of the only characters in the show to act professional and be actually competent at his job
@@Leodw14you were probably exaggerating but I'm sure Dwight is closer to having Autism or Asperger's than being a sociopath, is at all.
@@fxde1643yeah agreed Dwight definitely is not a sociopath, he’s still shown to care about people at the end of the day, even if it’s in some absurdly ridiculous way
@@Leodw14unsure? It’s Jim’s responsibility to ask if he didn’t know
That rundown thing was totally Charles fault tho. Jim asked for clarification and Charles gave unspecific help, vague timeline, and showed micromanaging. Charles is like a week old in this company so of course Jim is correct for asking clarification on what Charles wants.
Always faithful Always forward Shut up lmfao no one said anything about feelings
@@alwaysfaithfulalwaysforwar9400 im sure you are quite the chicken in the Office....
@@alwaysfaithfulalwaysforwar9400 he want hours without doing it I’m pretty sure he could of asked him what it meant but he chose not to
Charles was extremely incompetent at his job, so him doing this is par for the course.
I can confirm that till this day, Charles miner is still glaring at me through the window...
Have you finished that rundown?
Well... I finished something, I’m not sure if you could call it a run down because I don’t even know what a rundown is!
@@upthewhites5553 lol
That was the funniest part for me. When Jim looks back and now Charles is actually pushing the blinds down to get a closer look at gym. Lmao

This is the alternate reality where Stringer Bell got out of the drug game
Maybe he is spreading the business to Scranton
He gonna have Jim hit
Karai eh o vagazoide
I need you to hit somebody.
Who we hittin?
Michael Scott
THE Michael Scott?
that’s called market saturation, jim
Am I the only one who enjoys seeing Jim being taken down a peg and given a reality check?
Yes definitely. I never really liked Jim as a character after I watched the show a few more times.
Also yes I love CIX
it was good to see him get treated like that for a while
I also liked it when Jim tried to mess with Andy Bernard after his transfer by putting his calculator in jelly like how he messed with Dwight, only to discover to his horror that Andy was not someone to mess with. He was a real coward when Andy flipped his lid!
Something that has always driven me nuts is the fact that a guy as witty as Jim could have easily given Charles a response regarding his tuxedo that would not have put so much negative attention on him
He was nervous, makes you do and say illogical things
Jim isn't all that witty around strangers. In fact, everytime he's shown interacting with new people, he's awkward and uncomfortable.
Also, remember in the first season, when Jim tries to explain to Roy about his truce with dwight? That's very similar to this scene, as he always seems to over-explain things and make himself seem foolish.
If Jim was smart he would have kept regular clothes in his car just in case he needed to end the joke, like right when Charles entered.
Some people give off like an intimidating vibe with the confidence that they have in themselves, that comes from their presence. This probably overpowered Jim's usual confidence and made him a little nervous, thus making him mess up.
I think it comes down to Jim being intimidated, like with Roy, he would always get really nervous and awkward
Eldris Elba wearing glasses and a suit literally reminds me of Clark Kent Trying to hide the fact that he’s Superman 😂
He put Superman in the ICU
Or hiding the fact that he is Stringer Bell

0:19 why is dwight looking at jim but also not looking at jim
So weird haha
He's looking past Jim... Past Jim's future that is, a Future where society has fallen and all governments have collapsed. A future where only does with superior genes and superior brain power will reign supreme. A future where Jim Halpert no longer exists. Be assured this day will come, could be 1 month, could be 2 months
Could it be 3 months?
Laughing so hard
@@crypticallee it is possible
I love how Charles tried to knock Jim's head off with the soccer ball and then blamed him for hitting Phyllis. Of course if Jim actually knew soccer he'd have realized that's what was happening.
Charles: "So you wanna keep this made up position? Its important to you?"
Jim: "Alriiiight"😬
Keeping that in mind, no need to apologise for the response. I understand, hell I've done the same thing before.
It was kind of a useless position though
@@SoGrambo The position is useless. Part of your job as a manager would be telling the CEO what positions should not exist anymore and what positions should be created.
Elba always plays the villain and he’s great at it
Always huh
facts
He played the captain on Prometheus
He played Heimdall. He was a fucking hero.
@@bologna7233 ok well he usually plays the villain and he does a better job of being a villain than a hero
The writing in the exchanges between Jim and Charles are so underrated lol. Every time Jim's in trouble, I really felt it.
Stringer Bell running the office instead of the blocks. Well played sir, those business classes paying off for themselves
2:16 even Jim can't stand being called assistant TO the regional manager
Yes! Very subtle nod to the series history with that title! Haha. Making a Dwight out of Jim is genius!
Yes, how the turn tables
Yeah, i hate how Jim can't take anything he's done with others *for years*
Am I the only one who LOVES that Charles treated Jim like he treats Dwight?! 😂😂😂
Love it! Team Dwight all the way!
Me lol
The pranks on Dwight on harmless for the most part and there was mutual respect between them.
Jim Never treats Dwight like that........Jim, Pam, Dwight and Michael were there for each other when they needed each other.
Jim didn't treat Dwight poorly you just ldont like Jim probably because Jim pranked him a lot he didn't boss him around like crazy
Why doesn’t Jim just google how to write a rundown?
He was so frustrated that it probably didn't even cross his mind.
It's The Office *_US._* The makers had to make sure nothing is realistic after season 3-4.
"Rundown" is a very vague term and what you would include in one would almost certainly vary from one job to another, assuming it's even an official office term. Googling it wouldn't help at all. To be honest it's more Charles' fault than Jim's that Jim didn't know what to do, since Charles didn't specify what he wanted.
I would expect a rundown of his clients to be full contact information.
@@BlackDiamond2718 Yeah, just basic development information about them. The name of the company, how long they've been a client, personal information of interest, etc. Not too difficult, Jim. Lol
