Basically, Reiner developped a split personality to help him bear with the sins he commited. Ints of that started at the castle where Bertholdt is asked if Reiner was always that brave and devoted soldier, and Bert answers that he was more of a warrior in the past. Reiner didn't get it because he was totally in the soldier version of himself, but Bertholdt never forgot neither their real identities, nor their goals. That's the reason he's been way more quiet than Reiner. How can you look at yourself in the mirror when you drink, share, laugh and sleep with people you robbed from their loved ones without them knowing ? For 5 years, the mental pressure these two went through reached an insanity level. But the question remains, WHY did they do all this ?
You're one of the only reactors i've seen who didn't go full-on hate mode on Reiner and Bertholdt after finding out their secret, because of your assumption that they did what they did because of their upbringing. That's a very mature way of thinking, I'm seriously impressed, keep it up! 👏
LOL Eren and "holding back his emotions" XD yeah... right I also love Hannes.. although it doesn't show it directly as there are small time skips, I'd like to imagine he became a sort of surrogate father to the three main kids after those days in the 1st season where they lost everything. He seems pretty responsible now, and he really cares for all three of them :) Also yeah, it's true, Reiner and Berthold are only a few years older than Eren (just by looks), maybe they're like 17 or 18 and Eren is like 15 here? And 5 years ago when the Walls first broke they would have been pre-teens just like Eren.. And while they've lied about a lot clearly, their personalities, honestly, weren't a lie most likely. They are who they are.. even if they had to lie. :(
First reactor I've seen who actually considered how old they were when they first attacked the wall. Most just instantly turn on the two since they feel betrayed for liking them.
4:42 ! YES this! They were 10! do you think a group of ten year olds could come up with that and execute it on their own? Ofc not. Many people don’t understand this for some reason 😭 YES, they now know it was bad, BUT they keep going because they think what they’re doing will achieve something worth the destruction. They are people, ofc they feel remorse.
This logic is so wrong. With this every act of violence or killing is justified even in today world. Everything gets justified for "The greater good". The problem within Attack on Titan is that when they grew up, they knew the enemy wasn't a devil (because they knew them) but they still carried on their mission, that's the main point that people forget.
@@Mostwest (season 4 spoilers) I didn’t say they were justified, i just meant they had reasons, and in my opinion, reasonable ones. The main point of aot is that everyone is morally grey. If you want to go more in depth, a good comparison is when armin, connie and the others had to kill everyone at the port. They were all friends, but in the jeagerists eyes, they were dirty traitors. The show even compares it to bert and reiner in a brief flashback. Again, you can have a different opinion and not fight about it 👍
@@Mostwest I can understand not feeling bad for them at this point of the show. But once you learn the full context, it's not that hard to feel bad for them. @@kodosquea1994 That's fair. I still enjoyed it. I'd say he was still getting challenged a little longer than 20% but by the time that happens more of the plot opens up and nothing really drags on. I still think (as someone who enjoyed that webtoon very much) that it's a terrible adaptation.
SL has a few cool scenes sprinkled here and there, but apart from that the story depth is quite shallow, and quite one dimensional. Even the side cast are lacking personality and charm. @@Dragon-Believer Yes, but there are much much more that are very bad in comparison. Tho we disagree on SL, I'm sure we agree on many other animes being high quality.
They are 15 right now, they are still kids. And the point is that kids don't decide on their own to travel to another part of the world to exterminate humanity, they are clearly being forced to do it by someone else. Whereas no one forced the scouts to mass murder their own civilians and children at the end of season 1, in order to get literally nothing and no answers in return. They (particularly Erwin) chose to do that themselves, for their own personal benefit.
"they were kids, it was many years ago" by your logic if a kid kill someone voluntarily and carry on, he is not to be blame because "he didn't know better" Is this girl alright?
It's all about upbringing. Kids aren't born with morals, morals can only be taught. If a kid has no/wrong morals, it's not the kids fault, it's their environments fault. If you watched this series to the end, that much should be clear imo.
@@barna1278 I did watch it and I'm not trying to spoil anything. Second growing up you can make your assumptions about what is right or wrong. Killing is one of those things that it's inside of you. @@Mostwest "growing up you can make your assumptions about what is right or wrong" i do agree with this, they saw more clearly later as they were growing up, but this is exactly why i can't blame their deeds before they matured and learned enough about the world. Some kids are more impressionable, while some think more for themselves. Reiner trusted what he believed in, while Marco saw that there is more to it, and felt that it was wrong. Never watch Haylo & Kiss? 😪
Eren: Sarutte nanda?
This line shows Japanese speakers that Eren has never heard of an animal called a monkey.
Yeah, a more accurate translation would be like "What even is a monkey?", instead of what they went with
