You've got to give props to Sylvester Stallone for all the character development he poured into Adrian. In the beginning, she was this meek, docile, domestic servant of her mean-spirited brother. Here, SHE'S the one that snaps Rocky out of his self-doubt, fear, and guilt with tough yet genuine love. What a long way she's come.

I think its overlooked how Apollo Creed was always a standup guy since the beginning of the series because he was the antagonist in the second movie but he was just a very competitive guy and never ran from a challenge. After the first fight even when his trainer Duke was telling him how dangerous Rocky was he still wanted to fight him again and he was willing to be the bad guy to get Rocky in the ring. Then in this movie he even trained Rocky to get him in the best shape of his life even more so than in Rocky 2. He taught him defense and speed on top of the durability Rocky already had and the favor Creed wanted was another fight against an even better Rocky than he already fought. Say whatever about Apollo Creed but you can’t call him a coward he’s the biggest dog in the whole series

I always wanted someone to ask Stallone, after Rocky became a series did he intend to turn it into a Greek tragedy. Apollo and Rocky are really classic Greek heroes. Real but flawed.

    "Do you hate Rocky?"
"No, I don't hate Balboa. I pity the fool, and I will destroy any man who tries to take what I got!"
This is honestly my favorite Rocky movie, hands down. This is because Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) is my favorite character and this is where he shines the most. He was never a bad guy in my eyes. Apollo Creed loves America and never played the victim card. Sure he was egotistical, but he was mature in defeat. Sure these movies are about Rocky, but Apollo is my hero. We need more people like Apollo Creed in this world. RIP Carl Weathers.
Fun Fact: The theatrical movie debut of Mr. T and Hulk Hogan.
Hulk Helped Fact: In the scene where Rocky body-slams Thunderlips out of the ring, Sylvester Stallone admitted that he couldn't dead-lift Hulk Hogan so he had Hogan jump into his arms.
Family Affair Fact: Sylvester Stallone's first wife Sasha was the blonde groupie who asked for and got a kiss from Rocky during his public training session for his first fight with Clubber Lang (Mr. T). She is also the mother of Sage Stallone.
One Statue's Journey Fact: During the making of Rocky III (1982), a nine foot tall, 1,500 pound bronze statue designed by A. Thomas Schomberg was placed at the top of the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Arts. After filming wrapped, Sylvester Stallone tried to donate the statue to the museum but they said they didn't want it, sparking a huge debate between the Museum and the City's Art Commission about what art constituted. The museum claimed the statue was nothing more than a "movie prop" and didn't want it. Local people were outraged, and the statue was ultimately placed in front of the Wachovia Spectrum in South Philadelphia. It was later returned to the Art Museum for the filming of Rocky V (1990), after which it was again moved to the front of the Spectrum. Later the statue was put into storage, and then moved to a park at the foot of the famous stairs leading up to the Philadelphia Museum of Arts.

Another great chapter in the Rocky series, and another great reaction from you, Aria.
Mr. T's over-the-top performance as Clubber Lang is just great. You really despise the guy, yet he's a great antagonist for Rocky. It is just heartbreaking when Mick passes away, but great to see Apollo step in to train Rocky. Apollo never hated Rocky, his pride was hurt, and he wanted to beat him in the ring. Love that final freeze frame of both Apollo & Rocky in the ring.
It is fun watching you enjoy this series as much as you have. Keep the reactions coming!

What happened, after Rocky 2, Sylvester loved Survivor song Poor Man's Son, called band writer, asked for a song for 3, band wanted the script, after saying No many times, gave it to writer, Appolo kept saying Eye of the Tiger, so listen to song again, every word is about Rocky 3. After this movie, Survivor singer needed throat surgery so replaced with another great singer, and when Sylvester asked again, gave script, Burning Heart is about Rocky 4! But this time, several other good songs in it.
Glad you liked all 3, you're so cute 💕

All those questions you posed about Clubber Lang is exactly why I always said they completely missed the boat with not doing a spinoff or prequel series with the Clubber Lang character. He is the "Johnny Lawrence" of the Rocky Series. The same way the Cobra Kai series brilliantly explores why Johnny is who he is, the same could've been done with Clubber Lang and perhaps even better.

  • @bryce253
    @bryce253 6 місяців тому

Let me add some context to why Clubber was so angry with the notion of Rocky retiring. It took A LOT for heavyweight fighters to be ranked #1 and be in position for the title. Most of them had to fight in amateur competition first, then win a medal in the Olympics, then fight for years in the pros before being given one shot. There is a short window in their primes for them to fight for the title. Clubber had done all of this. In the case of George Foreman (who the Clubber character losely pays homage to), he had done all of that and won the title. However, he didn't fight and defeat Ali to do
it. Ali was stripped of the title in his prime. THE PEOPLE still considered Ali the true champ because of that. Thus the mantra with Ali was "the people's champ". It was something used to antagonize Foreman into offering a title shot to Ali who actually was not technically considered a contender after losing to Frazier when he attempted to regain the title from him after winning his case in the supreme court and license being reinstated to box. But Ali kept stalking Foreman and using the media to pressure him into the fight by again saying he wasn't a true champion because he never fought and beat Ali. That's why when they finally met in the rumble in the jungle fight, Foreman was favored and Ali was an underdog 4-1. Now that actual history put into context of Rocky III, that is why Clubber is upset. He has legitimately done the steps to have a shot at the title in his prime, yet he sees Rocky with the belt that did not do any of that and is literally sitting on the title by not fighting the actual raked contenders. Rocky is living it up in a mansion, doing commercials and comedy charity events with wrestlers...the Muppets (same as Ali) and Clubber is still living in poverty. By Apollo giving Rocky a chance at the title under what was supposed to be a farce, Rocky was allowed to skip the entire process that Clubber and all the other fighters bought into. This is why Clubber is also mad at Apollo. And Mickey was choosing fights with fighters he knew Rocky would be favored to beat. Regardless if they were good fighters, IT IS AGAINST THE RULES (spoken or unspoken). Heavyweight fighters have been stripped of the title before by refusing to fight ranked contenders. This is exactly what Mickey was lowkey doing for Rocky. We understand his motives but technically that makes one a paper champion. And even if Clubber would've been given a chance after Rocky retired, he would've been in the same boat at Foreman was with Ali because the people
would've considered Rocky the actual people's champ.
CLUBBER HAD EVERY RIGHT TO BE UPSET.

The beach scene is Talia Shire's (Adrian) best scene ever IMO. Stallone always makes her the turning point for Rocky as she is his inspiration. Right from the start in the first Rocky he is practicing telling her jokes in front of the mirror when he was trying to get her to like him.

Because Foreman was bigger and stronger than Ali and Ali knew that... that's what inspired Rocky III

    • @bryce253
      @bryce253 6 місяців тому +1

One of the inside jokes with the Clubber Lang character is that while he is clearly modeled after Foreman in Rumble in the Jungle fight in that everyone thought he was unbeatable and just a powerhouse beast, his personality was EXACTLY the opposite from Clubber Langs. Foreman was a quiet man. He let his fists do the talking. Ali was the showman, and marketing genius along with being one of the best boxers that ever lived. That narrative of Foreman being the villain was created by Ali, his team and Howard Cosell, who was sort of Ali's silent "media" partner promoter. And it was reversed of course with Ali being in Clubber's shoes in challenging Foreman to regain the title he was stripped of for refusing to be drafted. He was then unable to regain it from champ Joe Frazier in their first fight Frazier won by decision. Foreman destroyed Frazier in two rounds by TKO after knocking him down like 6 times. (Frazier kept getting up tho just like Rocky... I always thought Stallone took that quality from Frazier when modeling Rocky).
I wish someone would do a movie series about the actual heavyweight fights of the 60's and 70's. As much as I love the Rocky movies which pay homage to a lot of the fighters and fights of that time, the actual fighters and fights of that period carry drama and narratives that would make for as great or even greater series of movies. Hollywood has completely missed the boat on that.

The 6th and last movie is my personal favourite, but they’re all great in their own way - some more than others. Mr T made a great antagonist for this movie and it has some real emotional hits.
Kudos to Stallone - from creating the character, to writing and directing a number of the films, acting in them all, being involved in the casting and boxing choreography, the production and more - he’s done a tremendous job across the whole franchise. Sad that there are some people out there who still think he’s just a dumb 80s action star, though hopefully that number is in the minority nowadays.

You are right Aria. Clubber's actions before the fight should have been more than enough to make Rocky mad, and use that as fuel/motivation for the fight. But remember he didn't train properly. He wasn't conditioned, and he didn't study videos of Clubber's fighting style so he could develop a strategy.. Mick watched Clubber fight, but Rocky never saw him.

Burgess Meredith (Mickey) had an extensive and distinguished acting career, usually as a character actor in supporting roles. He played a starring role opposite Lon Chaney Jr. in the 1939 film adaptation of John Steinbeck's novella "Of Mice and Men." You've watched some very old movies, and I believe you would appreciate this one even if you watch it on your own rather than as a reaction for the channel. If you do make a reaction video, I would be interested in what you thought of the character Lennie. Several, years ago, I watched the movie again on UA-cam and was surprised by how negative, even antagonistic, many of the comments about the character were.

That means he belongs in an environment set up for _training,_ like the environments that made him so formidable in the _first_ two movies; not this kind of _flamboyant_ set-up; environments the parameters of which have been set by _Mick,_ not _Rocky._

    1. My favorite of the Rocky movies. Rocky IV is almost as good as this.
    2. Where I lived had that pinball machine and I kicked the shit out of it. (Top 5 scores)
    3. Micky's death shakes everyone.
    4. "Eye of the Tiger" was from a band called Survivor. Their other hit was "High on You".
    5. The woman swooning over Rocky that Micky chases away was Sly's wife IRL
    6. Kudos to Mr. T for playing a man with absolutely no redeeming qualities.
    7. IRL Clubber Lang(and his ego would be back. In movie land, been there, done that.
    8. RIP Paulie/Burt Young.😇
    9. RIP Apollo/Carl Weathers.😇

Rocky 3 was the best. There never should have been a part 4. There's actually an interview that Stallone gives in the early 80s where he says that this would be the last of the series. What made him change his mind, make a part 4, and kill off Apollo?

It's an ok movie but it doesn't have the heart or poetry of the first two. The plot certainly feels more forced since they have to squeeze 2 title fights into one movie. Overall there is a lot of boxing in this movie if you count the exhibition fight with Thunderlips, the montage of all Rocky's title defenses, the montage of all Clubber's fights, etc. They do a good job of keeping the title fights separate and distinguishing the two. It's not just a repeat with the winner and loser switching. Clubber is the first real villain in the series, and Mr. T did a great job in that role.
Rocky 1 is still the best. It's a FILM, whereas the rest are just movies.

6:39 Look at that. Thunderlips has _four_ women with him. And don't tell me they're his general _staff._ No, see, this is the key difference between _pro_ wrestling and _Olympic_ wrestling.
Olympic wrestling is about who's the better _wrestler._ Pro wrestling is about who does the best job catering to that most basic of male _fantasies._
