Rocky 3 is a mixed bag. It’s a departure of the realistic drama that made rocky what it was, yet it somehow keeps parts of that feel in an otherwise very Saturday cartoon feel. I mean Mr t’s role is iconic but more of the campy type rather than Carl weather’s more complicated role. So I get why critics and even fans feel mixed in this. But it’s the film that DID cement rocky as an icon. I mean rocky 4 upped that status (and we’ll..more of the..you’ll see lol) but you see the transition here. Makes sense as Stallone’s career was moving away from the drama “critically acclaimed” films to the action-packed films he became known for. Rocky 3 Memorable lines of dialogue, awesome music, and made Apollo creed one of the most beloved HEROES-and how many franchises can ever say that?? it’s a great time.
Also, question, I saw a blue jays cap in back. You guys blue jays fans?

When they were coming up with a song for this movie, they rejected a song by Survivor that was used later in another Stallone film. They had a very short time to come up with another song. They got to see a very early cut of this movie, and when Apollo said "You had the eye of the Tiger", they stopped right there and loved it. They then came up with the song based on Apollo's dialogue. And they did it in very short time, and it became a legendary song!

As far as the WWF goes, at that time, the company was owned by Vince McMahon Sr and he was old school. There was an unwritten rule back in the day that if a promoter let one of his top guys work somewhere else or do side projects, the promoter gets a cut of what the wrestler is paid. Being old school, Vince Sr wanted to be involved (getting a piece of Hulk Hogan's pay). He refused so Vince fired him. A few years later, Vince Jr bought the company and rehired Hogan.

Not that you dont want to, it's just all that stuff is very far from you and the emotion is not strong enough for you to be able to cry. Rocky's strategy to let Clubber tire himself out makes me think of when Ali fought Foreman. Ali knew he couldn't outpunch Foreman and that he didn't have the stamina to keep dancing the entire fight to win on points, so he introduced the "rope a dope." In retrospect, it was brilliant, but watching it broadcast live, it looked terrible. Then when Ali came to life and went after the exhausted Foreman, I jumped out of my seat and started chanting his name.

12:45. Note when this movie was filmed Hulk Hogan was in his first run with WWF which was run at the time by Vince McMahon Sr. Vince Sr. wanted nothing to do with films or crossover; he was very much and old school promoter. But Hogan did the movie anyway and he was fired by the WWF. Keep in mind, in his first run with the WWF, he was a heel and was not a very big name yet. Shorty after he joined the AWA promotion based out of Minnesota. The same year the movie came out, Vince Jr. bought the WWF from his father. Vince Jr. saw the potential of cross promotions and films as he wanted to make the WWF global not just regional. So lured Hogan back from the AWA in 1983 and made Hogan the face of the company. And the rest is history.

I would have gone out in that first fight against Clubber and taken a knee. Just kneel down immediately for a 10 count, give a Truman Show type bow to the audience, jump out of the ring, and run back to Mickey. If everyone is going to make a big deal about the fight happening (and in real life I'm sure they would have pressured him not to call it off), go out there and give everyone a huge disappointment, but don't let him beat you like Rocky did. That way you lose the belt, but you can just tell everyone the real fight for the belt will happen later. And it will make someone like Clubber mad.

Back when the early Rocky movies took place, the weight classes were different. Cruiserweight didn't exist yet, so Rocky would have been a heavyweight at anything over 190. Apollo was supposed to be around 210 if I'm not mistaken.
The first cruiserweight title fight was in 1980, which is why I think they made a point to mention Rocky as 202 lbs early in this movie. Technically though, even now, a cruiserweight can fight in the heavyweight ranks if they wish. Roy Jones moved up in weight to take a heavyweight belt, but he only got up into the 190s for that fight.

47:54 - You should listen to Eddie Murphy’s standup bit about Mike Tyson. This was when he was still champ, and he had a habit of kissing his opponents on the cheek after a fight. It was really funny, he talked about another boxer as well, did a really great impression of him XD

Hogan was working for Vince McMahon's dad Vince Sr. when he was approached to be in the movie. He was not the world-famous Hulk Hogan yet and was just starting to make a name for himself in wrestling at this time. Vince Sr. told him not to do the movie, and when Hogan did it anyway Vince Sr. fired him. The movie made Hogan a hotter commodity in the pro-wrestling world after the movie came out, and he changed from being a bad guy to good guy. Vince Jr. bought the WWF from his father and rehired Hogan and made him his star attraction. Which in turn helped make the WWF into the biggest wrestling company in the world.
When Hogan was inducted into the WWF Hall of Fame Stallone was the one who introduced him before Hogan made his speech.

Yeah, no defense in the Rocky universe, but also no refs either. Lol. I mean, 20 unanswered shots by clubber Lang with zero defense.. and I guess the ref was getting a hot dog when Clubber holds Rocky up in the corner, stares deep in his eyes, and delivers a decapitating cross with a wind-up that started two states away. Lol 😂

23:21 I think he means that he didnt hand picked each specific fight but that when you are the people's favourite champion the people in charge want you to only get to fight other "champions" or well known fighters for publicity and money. Like how Apollo Creed had to give rocky a chance to fight instead of a good fighter like Rocky making it to get a fight with Apollo by himself.
