A stroll around the 2023 Malvern classic car show! Plus owner interviews.

  • September's Malvern classic car show saw an incredible turnout of ages automobiles from the 1920s to the 2000s, and in this video expect a full walkaround and review of this great Classic Shows event - including a couple of owner interviews regarding an Austin Metropolitan, Daimler Light 15 and 1920s Morris!
    Favourites of mine included this aforementioned trio, a 1930s Packard, Morris Z Van and an F-Type Vauxhall Victor estate, all spotted a stone throw away from the Morgan classic car factory, also in Malvern.

    What a first rate video Harley (no fat fingers today), your enthusiasm is infectious. I couldn't watch it this morning as your "less than youthful assistant" monopolised my free time over breakfast so I watched yours with pizza. late afternoon. Your interviews with the owners are confident, knowledgeable, and intelligent. Well Done. Some terrific cars there.

    19:15. Austin Metropolitan.
    Designed for Nash, but when Nash merged with Hudson, 1954, these were also sold under the Hudson brand.
    Then when “American Motors” dropped the Nash and Hudson brands, these were sold under “Metropolitan “ 1957-1962 [ with 1961-1962 being leftovers, re-titled ].
    There were 4 series [ with 4 different engines - the last was upgraded 1.5L. 55hp. from the Austin A55 Cambridge.]
    A total of some 95,000 sold in the U.S.
    The Austin variant sold somewhere around 9,400 cars.
    [ Metropolitans we’re also sold in New Zealand as “Nash”, and were Right hand drive.

    Hi 👋 Harley. I didn't view this video in the past. I checked the comments and I didn't remark on the car display. I will remark on your nice shirt that you are wearing. It suits you. Very Ralph Lauren. You dad gets into fashion with his sun hat. I recently recorded on my phone when I was out walking an old 1939 Chevrolet parked in a driveway. I spoke with the owner and he's had the car for three years. It is stunning. The interior was in perfect condition. He told me it was assembled here. We assembled American cars in those days here in NZ. And its had no restoration work done on it. Incredible. I wold like to send you my recording of it , but I don't know how to do that or if it's possible. From Carl.

    44:11 NSU RO-80:
    1.0L Rotary engine [ 2 rotary]. front wheel drive .
    37,398 manufactured from 1967-1977.
    These had major reliability problems at first, and even though most had been ironed out within a couple years, NSU’s reputation was shot, and it went, but was absorbed into the Auto Union Group, as part of Audi.

    Great video - as always!
    My father was in Construction but he enjoyed all sorts of things, including an investment interest in a used car business run by an ex army mate during the 60's & 70's - I remember many cars of that period from the forecourts, trade auctions, and the valeting and prep. for sales - and some of the banter from buying, selling, and dealer trading etc. in the school holidays. Often something special from stock was home at the weekend - and I've been interested in all cars ever since.

    Excellent video Harley, impressive car knowledge and production. The gorgeous Nsu RO80 had a Wankel rotary engine, some were changed by owners to a V4 back in the day due to issues with rotor tips. The small pick up looks similar to a Reliant Ant ??

      Quite a few NSU Ro 80's had their engines changed for the Ford V4 as used in the Corsair......

    Harley you mentioned your Dad, and he was in shot. What is his channel? Thanks for the great coverage, and for the interview with the owners. Owners stories are very interesting. As a pca member, and a classic car fan, the statement 'it's about the people, not just the cars' has always rung true. Thanks for sharing. It's great to see young people with an interest in classics.

      We're they not known as a Reliant Ant? Or was it just a nickname.
      ANT taken from the last three letters of Reliant.
      It resembles an ant 😊

    Great show and a great film of it Harley, thank you. It was nice that you were able to chat to some of the owners about their vehicles and hear the background information about them.. It was great to see the Riley 1.5, when I was a very little boy in the mid to late 70s, my Dad had a maroon Riley 1.5 and two Wolseley 1500s, one two tone grey over white and one old English white. I came across a 1500 at the Bexhill Classic car show some weeks ago and the smell of the interior was just as I remember, very evocative. I might have to acquire one at some point although I also fancy a Triumph Dolomite Sprint as they’re good fun and are pretty good on hillclimbs. I know what you mean about the Mustang GT390, an absolutely gorgeous muscle car and If I had the money to spare, I would love one of those or a 68 Dodge Charger 440 (the 425 hemi can be temperamental and in my opinion isn’t really worth the extra cost). Or both! Thanks for producing such an interesting film.
