Amazing transformation from that ugly totally rusted over knife to the nice and shiny knife. Amazing what dedication and elbow grease will turn out. That knife almost approaches a machete... Very nice project. Thumbs Up!
This shiuld be a small version of Chinese 大刀（Big Knife）. Before restoration it wasn't sharpened. Maybe it was for children's Kung Fu training and performances. The holes are for iron rings but they were lost.

Did the rust come off in big flakes because something was painted on the blade to make it rust quickly ?
The world has run out of rusty tools a long time ago... 100000 UA-camrs restoring one of them every week did that. So the answer is yes 😏
