How good could Tommy Bolin be if he would have lived? What does it say that Jeff Beck is playing bass? Giving the guitar work to Tommy Bolin? He was something else!

It says that the 2 were jamming and there needed to be a bass player. It also says that JB didn't have an enormous ego and could let others expand and flourish.

Tommy already had done spectrum and that was a big influence on Jeff he knew that Tommy was up-and-coming and amazing We lost two of the greats to me there’s not too many left other than Ray Gomez And a few others as far as stratocaster molesters go

Tommy had it ALL down - a 24 Carat genius even though he died so stupidly young. Think this is good ? Well listen to him with Alphonse Mouzon - that is truly transcendental...

I was curious, so I looked up Tommy on Wikipedia and was astounded to discover a quote from him saying effectively that he had no music theory knowledge at all - he did not even know any scales !!! Whaaat ???

I don't think this is true to certain degree because when he was in Zephyr he had the piano player show him quite a bit of stuff I read in an interview on his website.
So he may not of talked about 9th chords and flat and raised 5s & 9s he knew all about that shit. Energy and Zephyr were both jazz rock bands.
When he worked with Cobham he couldn't read chord charts but his ears were very fine tuned and him targeting outside notes on Quadrant 4 really shows this.

Is Jeff playing through Bolins rig?
Just for a few minutes when he plays on is own with the wah just set to scream position!
    Maybe?
Bolin is one of my inspirations!
He later developed his style with licks that said "yup, that's Bolin"!
But his early playing with Zephyr and Energy, was some of his best before he became more refined in his playing.
But either way, they were both players that played with feel and abandon, really tasty playing

One way to clear up some of these comments is to ask, Bobby Berge. As a guitar player myself I could listen to this all day and probably learn a new lick ea

I was at the last show in Miami...Tommy got Jeff that night, but then again, I personally prefer vocals over wall to wall instrumentals...Tommy was a mega rock star; he helped a ton of people, just couldn't help himself....opiates blow...You always lose big

it seems to be human nature with the majority of society...alot of those players from the same era would rather you NOT know about a kid who could outplay them when not under the influence of drugs.....but the next generation will!
