If you ever play Metal Gear Solid 2, then there is a mention where the main character's room is brought up and how upsetting it was to see that it was just a bed and a desk. No personal affects, like a poster or picture. It was referred to as looking like a jail cell instead of a bedroom. I get the same vibe with this room. Like it's a cell or hospital room, except the photos. I actually hope that as he grows as a character, the room changes.
It will be cool if mitsuki keep an item from every mission and then in an chapter they all come to his house to see it full (with objects and memories)

This lil episode is part of him learning to express even more compassion and responsibility, that and hes lonely despite the fact he has friends. He doesnt have a family so this fits one of those seething black holes of emptiness anyone would feel if they grew up like this. Lol
