Around 1950, I played football for Cambridge Street juniors, Barrow against Green Road school the team having travelled from Dalton by a hired bus. Keep up the excellent work. More info about history of pubs, buildings etc would add significantly to the stories.
That was the site of the school , it changed into the goose green hotel around 1981 , I guess it changed its name to the chequers after I left barrow in late eighties
I remember years ago,Dalton had the most pubs either within a square mile in the country or something similar. I wonder how many have been closed down?
You should have told the chap that you were wondering if the houses had been built where the old gasometer used to be. You could smell the gas every time you drove past on the way to Barrow.

Lots of little miners cottages in Dalton and amazing selection of pubs back in the 80's some of which are probably gone
