Pharrell got lost in the chords, then chad jumped in made a bit of progress then got lost also then pharrell comes in to give a hand then boom. They feed eachother
Nearly 20 years later this is still amazing... Having two creative minds like this co exist like this .... Virginia stand up!!! That 2000s Neptunes sound though ❤️❤️❤️
All the time Chad is standing there watching them, he's thinking to himeself, "Look niggas, let me sit down and show you how it should be done. I got this!!!"
Look at them... these minds coming together to hash it out on the piano. organic COLLABORATION! It just doesn't happen at all anymore... in the pop world that is. Incredible album.
@johnnymassacre Pharrell gets a lot of the face time of the Neptunes but as you can see in this video, Pharrell wouldnt be able to make all the hits that he has without Chad's partnership. Pharrell is basically the one to come up with the ideas and basics but Chad adds the finishing touches that turns these songs into hits.
I'd rather hear people practice making new songs and play on the piano than listen to this chris brown, jason derdildo, and Iggy azalia bullshit people play theses days.
I think this is what happened, Justin says “ do you want me to hold it down” meaning want me to sing to it. Chad says “it needs to be in key” meaning the right musical key that they are either looking to make the song around or the musical key that will suit justin’s voice/range.
Chad & Pharrell inspire me to play my Casio bc both these get it in during studio time JT I look forward to more magic with these al least I hope get back in the studio with them!
R.nune I’m just seeing this sorry for the misunderstanding they inspired me to play my musical keyboard nowadays also what I meant was I hope to see more magic like this from them both as the Neptunes... their energy is magnetic though
@tucc40095 What are you talking about? I don't know much about Chad and Pharrell, but I know Justin has been talking piano lessons since he was really young. Taking piano lessons is practically taking an advanced course on musical theory, so he definitely knows a thing or two.
@SnowGirl098 Yea I would have to agree with @djfakt I've been taking lessons for awhile and can play almost anything if you give me the sheet music, but I don't know how to read chord progressions at all which is a part of theory, and its not that progressions are hard to read, I just haven't taken the time to learn them, but I'm doing that now as I realize how beneficial it is to improvisation and playing for people who sing
@tucc40095 Some people don't need to study music, they just feel it like an innate sense. Some people need to know music theory in order to make music but others can do it naturally.
@jazzinicole17 indeed i do, miss. I was just allowing @TheKidMoney's mistake to make sense. I was being somewhat sarcastic; emotion is so hard to capture through text though. I allowed "expire" to acquire a new slang definition, maybe something along the lines of "blowing one away with amazement ." I hope this tone doesn't sound condescending, but I sensed that you were questioning my intelligence with your reply to my comment, @jazzinicole17.
Chad isn't the unsung hero, but his role in the Neptunes is to "lace things up" and he does it perfectly. Pharrell starts, Chad finishes--perfect.
He is the unsung hero cause if he didn’t finish it who can. They both are great
Wetuiopdfghjkcvbnm and you ❤
Pharrell got lost in the chords, then chad jumped in made a bit of progress then got lost also then pharrell comes in to give a hand then boom. They feed eachother
Wetuiopdfghjkcvbnm and you ❤
You can see how this inspired Tyler! Love this vid
🙄
@@thundorkat is that a bad thing tho that Pharrell and chad inspired Tyler

It's so fascinating watching brilliant people make music.
Chad is awesome af...
Chad is the man. So underrated. But he is quintessential to the Neptune and n.e.r.d
Latrelle in the back! Miss the early neptunes days.
I still come to watch this even after what? 13 yrs? They both are musical geniuses
Nearly 20 years later this is still amazing... Having two creative minds like this co exist like this .... Virginia stand up!!! That 2000s Neptunes sound though ❤️❤️❤️
This is so cute. I love how that little boy came in the end playing with JT, that was really cute. He's gonna be a great dad for sure. Love you JT.
Seen video soo many times but still can't get tired of it
I hear Stevie Wonder- My Cherie Amour influence
I can't stop watching this, seen it about 30 times
That's becaUse you're witnessing people making music with actual instruments, it's actually quite beautiful.
Indeed
1:53 “cut it out” lol
this is chord heaven
Its funny that Pharrell and Justin were nowhere close to nailing what Chad did.
AyoShaunUMrKingston like nowhere near lol... Chad comes out of nowhere and creates a classic
chad is a beast on the piano
All the time Chad is standing there watching them, he's thinking to himeself, "Look niggas, let me sit down and show you how it should be done. I got this!!!"
he wouldn't say that cuz he isn't black
facts 😂
This always keeps me interested in learning the piano and music theory!
OMG! "My Cheri Amour" by Stevie Wonder! Pretty much the identical chord progression fellas! : )
That's a whole lot of talent at one piano.
I love you Chad Hugo
this version is no doubt much better than the final version!
You can hear the birth of Tyler happening in this video
Chad's such a beast on the keys!
anyone else notice around that 8:14 mark Chad was playing what would later go on to become "Frontin'" by Pharrell for a few seconds?
That’s really Stevie wonder can’t help it track for mj

Oh my gosh!!!!! They’re creating “let’s take a ride”!!!
Chad “what are you trying to do?” I did that last night in my sleep on accident
@9:24 tyler the creator comes to learn from the pros
Lolz
Look at them... these minds coming together to hash it out on the piano. organic COLLABORATION! It just doesn't happen at all anymore... in the pop world that is.
Incredible album.
This is like watching God create the sky...
That's how you make a beat
5:25 Let's Take A Ride is born
The chords have a similar feel to Stevie Wonders song Golden Lady
Pharrell is the idea, chad is the brain that turns the idea into a hit, and JT.....well JT isn't doing much at all except fuckin up the sound!
@eajdm11
At the end Chad plays :
Ebmin7(9) Ab7sus Dbmin7(9) Gb7sus
Chad got on and sh*t got really epic..
Chad saves the day!
Chad's chords remind me of Nujabes
Wow i didn't know Chad was that good on the keys
master at the keys and sax, decent on the guitar
@@_Maxten Chad is good at music.
And that's how let's take a ride came along.....
"chad! you re making a mistake!! " jajaj awesome!!
"Mon cherie amour"?... it has some similar
chords
2023...still relevant.
OMG my heart exploded at 5:26 ❤️
Amazing just amazing chad isss just awsome on the piano
i absolutely love watching them work...so inspirational \V/
Chad is just an AWESOME MUSICIAN!!!
Chad's chords are so Asian influenced I think that's what makes every Neptunes track so infectious
Yes he got it from Philippines
@johnnymassacre Pharrell gets a lot of the face time of the Neptunes but as you can see in this video, Pharrell wouldnt be able to make all the hits that he has without Chad's partnership. Pharrell is basically the one to come up with the ideas and basics but Chad adds the finishing touches that turns these songs into hits.
...that one "dislike" is the dude at the free hotspot venue that keeps dozing off...
let's take a rideeeeeeeeee
so so amazing!
what a prodigy
best explaination for anything ever
Spring 2013 nostalgia
"still on my brain" the striped down version.
Justin really needed to stop that little 'tinkling' shit he was doing on the keys, angling to up his percentage lol. P was trying to find that groove.
I'd rather hear people practice making new songs and play on the piano than listen to this chris brown, jason derdildo, and Iggy azalia bullshit people play theses days.
😂😂derdildo
Idk much about music but at 5:49 when chad says it needs to be in key, what does that mean? I’ve googled it but can’t get a straight answer.
I think this is what happened, Justin says “ do you want me to hold it down” meaning want me to sing to it. Chad says “it needs to be in key” meaning the right musical key that they are either looking to make the song around or the musical key that will suit justin’s voice/range.
@@blizzred2143 correct.
Justin says "keep the same bass tho right?" on the keys
pharrell himself had the moments as well while chad was gambling
Lo de Chad fue un "mhh quitense, así se hace esta chingadera" xD
yeah it sounds like my cherie amour
multiple piano notes played at the same time
Hop in the car and go with me....
I'd like someone to tell me exactly how good Chad is, from the eyes of someone who knows ability. Like, grade wise.
You need to watch Oscar Peterson or Art Tatum.
These are mere mortals...
as if
Come on chad you got it the first time do that shit
Let's Take A Ride on the piano...so dope
oh god is that stevie
I love this Video!
hate to say it but the first "drafts" of the song sound better.
N.E.R.D or either Pharell has this album where they do improv different songs while playing the piano. I want to say its in London...i cant find it
@bobbie G that would be Number one.
Chad & Pharrell inspire me to play my Casio bc both these get it in during studio time JT I look forward to more magic with these al least I hope get back in the studio with them!
what do you mean get back in the studio with them? youve actually done that

@@1andonlydasilent1 how are you doing now?
reccomend me some stuff that you think his chords are influenced by pls?
Bruh at 55 it sounds like the cords for ifhy by tyler (edit): sounds like my ego
probly where his bitch ass got it from...
Ifhy reminds me of Pharrell’s version of punch drunk love by common
I mean Pharrell is on that song though so
i just want a team like this
he is trying to play my cherie amour by stevie wonder :D
@tucc40095 What are you talking about? I don't know much about Chad and Pharrell, but I know Justin has been talking piano lessons since he was really young. Taking piano lessons is practically taking an advanced course on musical theory, so he definitely knows a thing or two.
begining chords sound like Dim the Lights by Pharrell
@SnowGirl098 Yea I would have to agree with @djfakt I've been taking lessons for awhile and can play almost anything if you give me the sheet music, but I don't know how to read chord progressions at all which is a part of theory, and its not that progressions are hard to read, I just haven't taken the time to learn them, but I'm doing that now as I realize how beneficial it is to improvisation and playing for people who sing

brillient :D
@jazzinicole17 nah man, he expires me too. as in just blows me away and leaves me expired. gone.floored. out. peace.
Fuck. I can die now. Happily
sounds like Stevie wonder at the beginning
Usher - what a guy gotta do Usher sung the song 2009 with this sample
@TheRomanianRambo JT is the face of the product.
@SeeJay804 That sounds like a pretty accurate guess to me.
does anyone know the chords that they are playing??
thx
what the finallysong named? if this released...
This is obviously the early stages of Pharrell's track - Take It Off!
Let's Take A Ride by JT, actually lol
i hear "lets take a ride" :)
