@johnnymassacre Pharrell gets a lot of the face time of the Neptunes but as you can see in this video, Pharrell wouldnt be able to make all the hits that he has without Chad's partnership. Pharrell is basically the one to come up with the ideas and basics but Chad adds the finishing touches that turns these songs into hits.

I think this is what happened, Justin says “ do you want me to hold it down” meaning want me to sing to it. Chad says “it needs to be in key” meaning the right musical key that they are either looking to make the song around or the musical key that will suit justin’s voice/range.

@SnowGirl098 Yea I would have to agree with @djfakt I've been taking lessons for awhile and can play almost anything if you give me the sheet music, but I don't know how to read chord progressions at all which is a part of theory, and its not that progressions are hard to read, I just haven't taken the time to learn them, but I'm doing that now as I realize how beneficial it is to improvisation and playing for people who sing

@djfakt Well, I've been participating in competitive piano since I was 11, and everyone in my teacher's studio is required to learn music theory, not as an official class, but as a supplement. Anyone who takes piano seriously knows a fair amount of music terms and can figure out chord progressions. As a person who was required to take the level 8 NMTA theory exam without ever having a single theory lesson in her life, I can say that learning piano provided me with most of the basic knowledge.
