    The 2nd Amtrak Train was not the Crescent, it was either the Silver Star or Silver Meteor !!!

    This video brings back memories. My grandfather was a yard conductor. When I was a kid he'd take me from Acca to Potomac Yard for fun. We'd hop an engine up and spend a day in DC then hop a train back. Boy was that fun for a kid. I used to love little yard engine 91

      Railfanned the F'Burg part of the line. Like you, i would spend whole days 'down at the tracks'. The only time Id get to wave at #91 (and #89 too I think) was when she was sandwiched betwixt two RF&P GP's. (If Im not mistaken, they wore road trucks and beared different coupler shanks as well, for faster than 'switching' type service.) Being a kid just learning the intricate details of Railroading, I just couldn't fathom a yard switcher doing better than 50mph! The end of the day would be the NB local out of FBurg. for Alex.. 1 GP40, 40 cars, slight grade northward off the Rappahannock. She'd growl, howl, scratch, and claw her way, but shed make it! Youd hear her back off by Potomac creek, then fade back to everyday sounds of life. Then back home by dark.

    The Crescent on RFP tracks.....That's one Hell of a detour if it wants to get to Atlanta and New Orleans could the train have been the Silver Star or Silver Meteor?

    I love railfanning at Guinea, VA (where this was recorded). Wish I could have seen RF&P trains.

    The Crescent runs on Southern tracks. Not RF&P unless it was diverting

      The Crescent does run part of the RF&P up in the D.C. area.

    actually Seaboard System And Chessie System Merged And Made CSX And CSX Bought RF&P Out

  • @RFP2Seaboard
    @RFP2Seaboard 11 років тому +1

    Was Seaboard System power common on the RF&P?

    • @pmrailfan7521
      @pmrailfan7521 4 роки тому +2

      Not so much before the 1980's. After then, it was quite common. In fact, before Railroads shamefully gave up on cabooses, you could see more of the CSX sub-roads than you would RF&P cabooses on RF&P trains. Then BAM! Everything RF&P was gone! Locos and hacks. Like a light switch. Only saving grace? The Chessie scheme was a pleasing replacement for our beloved "Run Fast & Push" Blue and Grey. Then came CSX colors... someone please turn out the lights!

    Ashamed that Seabord System(formaly SCL/L&N)had bought them out .
