    I'm a new Laser sailer from Australia. Thanx for a very in-depth, but crystal clear talk. I'm yet to have my first sail on it, but it looks a handful downwind in a breeze, and I'll keep your laws in mind.

      @@RYA1875 I'm more the DCA type of guy. Left cruising yachts for more fun and flexibility a while ago.

    Awesome videos, guess my sailing sessions won't turn into swimming practice that often from now on!

    It's a good idea to first listen to Steve's answer to a question from the audience at 43:49 and then see the whole video.

    A gumboot cramming. Hope I can transfer an ounce of this to the briny.

    Newbie sailor here, great vid - very helpful !! Q. when he says about boom going away from water does he actually mean the stern ?

    • @170221dn
      @170221dn 4 роки тому

      Is this when he says pushing the tiller away causes the boom to go away from the water?
      What actually happens is the boat heels to windward and this cause the boom to go away from the water. His way of explaining is succint but I suppose only once you get it.

    Who cares if one person goes a quarter of a knot faster? The racing brigade has taken over the aesthetic pleasure of sailing, so now all dinghies are built to be as uncomfortable as possible, in the same way that bicycles are designed to be as biker unfriendly as possible. Who cares! Sail racing is ruining the pleasure of simply being afloat. What a boring bunch of OCD people! I realise this is a minority view. Please, someone design a pleasant yacht that is inexpensive and has SEATS, and sails for the pleasure of sailing.

      I listened to it more as knowing the forces at play during sailing. The wind and swells are pretty fluid during a dinghy sail in San Francisco bay, so thinking about the points made in the video are quite helpful to me.

      fingerhorn4 but why are you watching race tactics if you’re not racing?

    • @typicallucas4164

      There are comfortable bikes and dinghies. You don't have to get racing gear if you don't want to..

      then don't watch a video aimed at races and don't buy a high-performance Olympic class. Buy a pico or something, and go watch Shirly Robertson videos (they're actually great)!
