  • In this video I pattern the Boss shot shells vs the Kent fast steel 2.0 at 35 yards. The Boss shells and the Carlson Cremator are my go to shell and choke combo, I used to shoot the Kents paired with a Kicks High Flyer choke in this video you will see why i swapped!!

    All I shoot now is Boss, I've been using the 3" #4 and 2-3/4" #5s and they both work amazing. I folded a big Canadian goose at 35 yards with the #4 shot this season. Impressive stuff!

    Thanks for performing this patterning test that I requested. Yes, the Boss 3/5, with the Carlson choke tube, is definitely a much better more uniform pattern. I hate to say this but I wonder if the more uniform pattern is the shell or the choke tube. What would happen if you shot the Kent with the Carlson choke and visa versa? Would the Kent still show the skew to the high left? Thanks again for a great job with the video.

      I’m not sure, what it may do, honestly! All I know is that I shot at least 75% better after I swapped to the Carlson and the boss 3/5... it could I’ve been shells, it could have been the choke... i don’t know, all I know is the kill numbers went up, cripple numbers went down, and I shot less shells. That was enough for me to say “I’m on to something here”!!!

      In my experience boss patterns very uniform with all of my chokes from modified (.710) to full (.700) and extra full (.690). It mainly depends on how to tight of a pattern you want and what distances you're shooting at. I think the owners recommend around a 70% pattern density in a 30in circle at 40yds. The .700 and .690 chokes worked best for me.

      I did not, when I swapped this past season, I went to the carlsons and the boss at the same time, and was happy with the results I got in the field, but I am going to shoot them through the factory choke this off-season to see how they do through it, just for curiosity lol

    If you're gonna pattern a shotgun, do it at the recommended range of forty yards and uses same size shot

    • @BlackBeltProduction
      @BlackBeltProduction  Рік тому

      Your 100% correct a pattern test is done at 40 yards. This video was made by request from some of my regular viewers. Just to see what I gained from swapping from the Kent number 2 to the boss 3/5 combo load.. if you watch my other patterning videos you would see that I do, do my pattering tests at 40 yards.. this particular video was by special request… thanks for watching

  • @rickw6521

    yes i agree that you are shooting on the left. So that means only shoot at birds coming from your right and you will need a shorter lead. lol.
    On a more positive side even though boss is 1 1/2 oz versus 11/4 the extra pellets are staying tighter in the pattern. And someone can argue about the difference in pellet count but it still shows they stay tight, end of issue. lol

    I feel a “fair” comparison would be to shoot the same size shot and payload as close as you can. Also you have the factor of the chokes. You may have the perfect choke for the boss but not the Kent? Then compare and do a penetration test as well. I’ve shot Hevi shot and have been impressed with that. But it’s expensive. Now bismuth isn’t a whole lot heavier than steel. And Boss is moving 1350 FPS and Kent is usually moving 150-200 FPS faster. So that could negate the difference in density?

  • @grousedog88
    @grousedog88 2 роки тому +1

    You’re right about 40, but I use 35 so can look at the middle. Denser move open, close vs further. Just my .02

      Also , I don’t move the center .Pattern density is important, I just prefer to Know the POI,point of impact.

    If you want a really good pattern, try a box of thier #6 shot in a 2.75" load. Sounds like 3" should have more pattern density but i can absolutely promise you that a 2.75" boss #6 is a far superior patterning shell with the cremator chokes. #6 may seem small but in one shot you break both wings, both legs, and fill the head and neck full of shot. You dont need larger pellets to kill cleanlyn you want as much shot hitting that duck as possible. #6 slaps em HARD. try it out. If you dont like itn ill buy your box of #6s from ya.

      @@BlackBeltProduction i switched from the 3" shells to the 2.75" stingers. Less shot overall, but higher velocity and a vastly superior pattern with my cremator close range, mid rangen and long range ported chokes. I can hit a bird with regularity but when you get ahold of them with the #6 it really crunches em. Talking bill hitting thier backs they get folded so hard. With my cremator close range this stuff is a teals worst nightmare.

    This isn't a great pattern test. Its obvious your gonna have more pellets on target with boss your throwing dbl the amount of pellets downrange. I rather see 4 shot compared from both companies

    • @ishotapig
      @ishotapig 2 роки тому +1

      Why? That’s the beauty of bismuth- you can move down two sizes and gain the pellet count- like you just witnessed? These 3-5 boss will destroy geese- and the Kent’s 4’s won’t. I hunt both and use to run Kent but last year - I got BOSS shells for almost Kent steel prices before BOSS raised their prices, - I tried them and was amazed- I paid full price this year!
