- Nathan and I traveled just north of Denver Colorado to visit our friends at EarthRoamer where we were given Exclusive Access to their entire assembly process...well, not every area as CEO Scot Allen gladly talked about their Carbon Fiber Camper Shell Process "their secret sauce" but understandably so, didn't allow us to film it. But we did get a full on Factory Tour from start to finish to see how these incredible Luxury Overland Vehicle are built, tested, and backed. Along the way we met many of the EarthRoamer team and you'll hear firsthand from them of their pride in building these vehicles. You'll see the craftsmanship each team member brings to the table and get to hear where they started and how they became part of the EarthRoamer family.

1,000,000! It’s a fantastic vehicle but I could put something tougher for 1/4 of that price and it would pretty much do everything that vehicle does.

A little over 30 years ago I was fortunate enough to layout an entire assembly line for cement trucks plant, with supporting manufacturing. Brings back good memories. Nice job on the video!

I was thinking the same thing that the gentleman in the wood shop said. This is definitely more on the level of a yacht more so than a vehicle. Very impressive!!
We spent a full day in their factory and were blown away buy the custom built quality of every aspect. Our greatest challenge was trying to convey that to our viewers in only 1 hour!

Agreed. Incinerating toilet as well. One turn off with previous models was having to shower with my toilet. The SX changed that. Second turn off is the cassette toilet. Just making suggestions to the fine people at Earthroamer. As mentioned in another comment, I've been looking at the company since 2018.
Years ago I’d be drooling over this vehicle! But, as nice as it is, I now prefer renting Airbnb’s… lazy? No! I drive my wife’s 2020 4Runner from LA to our destination in Mexico ( 6 hours a day for 4 days ) every summer loaded with surfboards and fishing rods on top and all the clothes, dog food, and accessories needed for 6 weeks! We rent a 2bdrm, 1 bath with property for $75 a day. That said, those are some bad ass vehicles! Maybe pick one up when my daughter is out of school and go touring from Alaska, through Mexico, Canada and all points in between 👍

Wanderbox is my second choice, they're out of Mead Colorado. Main plan for me right now, summer on my farm in Alberta. Winter in Wyoming, Utah, Colorado and Arizona.

Just out of my stupid north east Scotland curiosity but have you ever created this automotive work of art in right hand drive,
Not a stupid request at all. We love our friends across the pond but no, I don't think they have ever produced one of these with the steering wheel on the "correct" side :)
In 1993 we bought a new Lance 990 slide in camper and put it on our 1978 F-250. Later we bought a 1997 F-350 dually. That camper has taken us through hell and high water for 30 years now and it only cost us $14k. I know there are a lot of overpriced junk RV's out there these days but 30 years ago Lance made one hell of a good unit. Earth Roamer may be cool but the vast majority of us just do not have a million bucks to drop on a camper.

I see that you guys use the Chevy 6500 for the SX model and the F550 for the LTI. was there any thought of has anyone come up to you guys and ask if the Chevy 6500 be an option for the LTI models even though the Ford 550 is the standard model for the LTI? I know you gentlemen also customize the inside. What about the outside as in bigger tires proportionate to the vehicle?

My best answer is yes you can customize, it is well balanced but any vehicle can tip over when improperly driven, they will spend the better part of a day letting you get used to the vehicle at their factory so you are comfortable driving it, but you would want to contact the company for details. The CEO talked about it but they didn't show us because its their "secret sauce" The Entire Camper Shell is made from Carbon Fiber and has been tested structurally for withstand a 4.5 G impact

The most interesting part of the EarthRoamer build was left out. The carbon fiber shell. Why? I was really looking forward to actually seeing the build process for that since no other manufacturer; that I know of, builds carbon fiber shells.

14 months out is really not bad considering the demand and the super high hand built quality. Damn that’s not bad at all. Just think of how fast a year goes by.

I’m looking to get one of these and part of my information gathering process was following a bunch of people on Instagram who have EarthRoamers. I must say I’m a little bit put off by how much mechanical problems these people have with breakdowns and having to get their trucks shipped back to the US from other countries. It scares me a little bit. I’m sure earth Romer does everything right and maybe the blame lies with the use of a Ford truck as a backbone.

I had thought about ordering one....up until the point I heard they discontinued the HD. I don't like the look of the SX and I don't like GM Trucks. The SX also doesn't have the water capacity of the HD.

So the founder, a wildlife photographer, created a product that virtually no wildlife photographer / average outdoorsman could feasibly afford?
He created a product for himself and then offered it to other that aspired to go off the grid.

Did you take into account the entire camper shell is Carbon Fiber?
And people wonder why these are so expensive...that CF shell is ENORMOUSLY expensive all on its own. As far as I'm aware, it's the single largest carbon fiber assembly in the automotive world. I know you didn't go over it, but did they talk about how much of the BOM and production cost is just the shell alone? And whether they will be introducing the option to use woods like cherry, mahogany, or even rosewood?
Also, a running joke: why do you never see EarthRoamers on the road? Because they're usually way, way, WAY offroad lol.
Thanks for the comments and questions. We did not talk about any separate costs just the overall cost of the vehicle. They will customize the rig according to customers wants, but they also know that certain woods do not stand up to the stress that they know the wood will encounter including heat, cold, etc. They use the wood they do because it meets their standards.
