We love sharing the fluorite in our collection ! It was a lot of fun to break out rare varieties and old faves. Which one would you have picked for a closer look?
Rebecca laughing at Rob's hair was such a perfect intro, I loved that you chose to keep it! All of the specimens you showed today was so cool! My favourite though was the unique coloured one that Rebecca chose to have a closer look at. Would love to add one of those to my collection but have a feeling I would need to pay a smaller fortune for it. I did acquire a rather big fluorite cluster specimen just yesterday though, originating from Mongolia and bought on Etsy. It has perfect cubes in green with purple phantoms. The largest crystal being about 4.5 cm (almost 2 inches) across. Such a beautiful piece that I'm so happy to have in my collection!
I live in Ireland now but grew up in the UK not that far from where Blue John is mined. A school trip to the mine was definitely a contributing factor to my lifelong interest in minerals and then later, on another school trip, I saw some amazing Blue John goblets on display at a stately home (sorry, I can't remember which one). It also features in an Arthur Conan Doyle story (not Sherlock Holmes though). All these things make it one of my favourites and although I love fluorite in general and have several pieces in my modest collection, sadly I don't have any Blue John. I also wanted to say that although I have praised your videos before for being a great all-round view of the minerals and gems that you feature, this video is an example of something else I really like about them. I love the fact that the presenters (not just Rob and Rebecca although they are my personal favourites) are so enthusiastic about their subject and get a buzz out of unboxing the minerals, as well as sharing their knowledge. They also seem to take genuine pleasure in one another's love for their subject and never compete as to who has the most knowledge. But they also add lighter moments into the factual stuff too and laugh together.
I recently went to a flourite museum in Kentucky and got to see numerous specimens of flourite with many banding, shapes etc. I’ll never forget the amazement i felt in the UV room
I was waiting on that Rogerlee Fluorite to come out of the box!!! I just absolutely love specimens from Rogerlee, as well as Elmwood!! Fluorite is such a versatile mineral to collect, and I believe it is an ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL place to start for upcoming mineral collectors.
Thanks for sharing the wonderful world of fluorite. It's always beautiful and has lots of sharp edges with color change and fluorescence to boot. Keep the goodness coming. 😷⚒
I really love fluorite I didn't realize it came in so many different colors and I live in the state of Illinois and I knew that fluoride was at one time our state rock thank you for all the information I really do enjoy watching you two I learn a lot
There is so much misinformation online about gems and minerals, especially with the uprising of new age and spirituality taking advantage of peoples ignorance. It is so nice to see your channel providing such cool facts for people like me who are interested in the geological secrets behind my favorite stones. Thank you for doing what you do!!
I'm not against people who like crystals for "spiritual" reasons but it's annoying starting out to learn about minerals and what you're finding is just basically what's known in "occult" circles as correspondences. I just want to understand how my crystals formed right now goddamn it!!
I just found out that my blue John from Derbyshire is a member of the fluorite family! Went there with my Mum many years ago and got a ring and a brooch with all natural blue John in them. I’m about to take my ring in to get it enlarged because I’ve developed arthritis and my knuckles all got bigger so I have to have all of my older rings enlarged. I was hoping you would cover blue John at some point and then, here it was! I am also lucky enough to have a fluorite piece in it’s natural form like the D & D die. It’s been made into a pendant. I have been a gem and specimen collector for years and have now recently gotten back into it. I’m addicted to your channel, new favorite from a new subscriber! Thanks!
Thank you! I bought a purple & white stone from a Hemba tribe lady on the side of the road, somewhere in SE Namibia, and I always wondered what it was. I'm now fairly certain that it's Fluorite!
I love fluorite! My favorite specimen I have is a piece of purple fluorite that has pyrite, galena and small pieces of citrine formed on top of it. Fluorite is amazing how many different varieties there are.
🤩 you guys really did pull out some spectacular Fluorite specimens there. I’ll be on the lookout for Blue John Fluorite now. Thank you for another great share. 😀👍
I would have to agree that the namibian sample was worth a closer. It is an absolutely stunning piece! So very beautiful! And the sample from illinois is definitely something ive seen before. A friend and fellow youtuber named Tyler (Geode Cracker & Collector) lives in Illinois and does Sat Night live geode cracking on his channel, and he has shown us some spectacular, huge fluorite cubes, he has and the color change effect under short wave UV. So fantastic! I know he is excited and talking about go back to hunt more fluorite specimens! I love fluorite! it is just so wild, all the different types there truly are, and colors! Thank you for presenting and explaining the wonderful world of fluorite!
"Who said there were no straight lines in nature" I said literally the same thing when i showed my dad the piece of fluorite i ordered! Not just a straight line but a 90 degree angle
I obtained a particular flourite specime. From a mine in Ireland. It usually looks very purple, but I recently found that under LED lights it looks more blueish.
Different light sources can change the way fluorite may appear. Lights with a warmer tone may impart different colors than lights with a cooler tone, which LED tends to be. The effects are particularly noticeable for blue fluorites.
What a great video so much information here. I really appreciate you sharing this, me being new to the rockhounding world. Thanks for sharing your hard work and passion.
That blue singular crystal looks a lot like the big one my mom got me from a garage sale of all places. It has one point cut off to stand it on end unfortunately, but the way light is directed to all it's faces when you stick a small light up against the cut face is super cool. It's probably also from that Illinois mine, because it was a garage sale in Illinois and that same stunning cornflower blue.
My eyes are delighted I love fluorite. The one that looks like an egg is really interesting imagine having a collection of minerals that look like food!
I love fluorite, The Cave-In-Rock fluorite would have probably been my closer look too because from my experience with that kind of Flourite might appear to be rough or broken on some edges, but when you look closer you see the same pattern just smaller like a little city.
Wow love these specimens guys! You showed my absolutely my favorites specimen esspecialy polish prodigy pocket which is my fav fluorite and my biggest dream😍
😍😍😍😍 flourite is definitely one of my favourites too. I love purple and I love teal. So not only does it come in so many colours but so many combos. For me the combination of those two colours is just chefs kiss 👌 Also side note: would love to see a video specifically on grape shaped crystals. I LOVE grape agate (again with the purple), I didnt know you could get lumpy space Princess flourite tho 🤣🤣
I've always thought that Fluorite - out of all the gems and minerals in the world - is the most photogenic. Fluorite is the supermodel of the mineral world.
It's amazing to know there are many kinds of fluorite.😀💎 I'm very fascinating🤔 to know how they get those colors💙💚💜, their cube forms🟦🟩🟪 and where they're came from. It's hard to choose, I like all of them especially that light blue diamond💠 shaped one. Thanks for teaching us about them.👩🏫🧑🏫 Nice video and see you later.🙂👍💎
Awesome video. I’ve always liked fluorite but after really getting more into minerals and raw specimens I’ve found that it’s one of my favorites with how many colors and shapes and structures you can find with them. The specimens shown here were amazing. A previous episode showed a gothic looking guy (sorry can’t remember his name) who had a stunning show stopping piece that was purple with spots of yellow, and that was my dream piece.
Fluorite is my favorite gemstone. I just found out about cave-in-rock fluorite and I'm determined to get my hands on a piece. If I had to pick a favorite it would be a three-way tie between the Namibian, the Rogerly, and the Cave-in-Rock.
It is such a joy watching this channel~Thank You all S O much for this wonderful content but also for your fantastic personalities…very smart, lovely and simply cool. I have some little banded fluorite [purples into blues into aqua blues;just like stone you showed actually] stones *(I make jewelry) and they are a bit dulled…I would like to hand polish them-is that a ‘thing’, to hand polish stones? Thank you again for being awesome!!
Do you have any recommendations for high wave UV lights? I have a Druzy Blue Quartz Geode that requires those waves to react. I also have some Fluorite from Brazil similar to the alien type I'm selling and while it and mostly that matrix (white to pink), the light I have to make cretin dice I own fluoresce, it doesn't make my geode do it, telling me that the dice light I have is a low wave one.
I love fluorite - it was one of the minerals that first drew me into collecting. I finally got a fluorescent one for my collection (though it is not nearly as nice as the one in the video). I also didn't realize that fluorite could be colour-change :o I will have to find one to go with my sapphire! I think I would have picked the fluorescent specimen for my closer look :D
I found some amazing Smoky Quartz with huge Apache Gold Chalcopyrite Crystal clusters on it, it's amazing raw stuff I personally found in North Carolina
I found rough uncut gemstones pr black diamond or black onyx i'm not sure could you help me to identify this stones i have..i have more precious stones please help me
Is Elmwood mine still producing? I have a awesome double terminated calcite with sphalerite from that mine. I LOVE fluorite!! I have several specimens, all from Xiang Hua Lin mine in China.
Yes, it is still producing and specimens are still coming out, albeit covertly. The company that owns that mine never did and still does not mandate specimen extraction, so the workers there are taking risks all the time getting them out.
Very beautiful specimens. 💕🌍👑 I love this hobby, truly. It brings me to be the best version of myself that I can be. It also brings me closer to GOD. It brings me joy, happiness etc. ✝️🛐
Fluorite is my all-time favorite mineral. Just the massive amounts of different colors and the fact it is fluorescent make it so cool. I was rummaging through my dad's stuff when I came across an inch big dark purple fluorite octahedron. It was what I thought of anytime someone mentioned a "crystal." He has now given it to me so it is part of my collection.
A piece of information could be added to these videos, for someone who maybe would like to purchase specimens that they see here, not necessarily these specifically but like these, how much would someone generally expect to pay, this way they don't get surprised bybsomeone selling for way more then going average
We agree, that would be helpful! But, the gemstone market ebbs and flows, so what may be a good price today, might be very different tomorrow, depending on many different factors.
@@gems yes of course, and I know sometimes price is depending on the seller as well as I'm sure the origin, but thank you for considering and the reply, it is appreciated
Cleavage refers to the tendency to break along planes of crystal weakness within the structure based on the strength of the atomic bonds. Many minerals have one or more cleavage planes, and they vary in ease of breakage and quality of breakage. For example, fluorite has easy perfect cleavage (it cleaves easily to produce a flat plane), and diamond has difficult perfect cleavage (it's difficult to cleave but when it happens, it produces a flat plane).
To be fair, we've never seen a fluorite that goes from green to red in daylight and incandescent. Still, that blue to purple change is pretty darn cool.

I couldn’t choose a favourite as they all had unique attributes. The Botryoidal one was cool though.
I loved the first one that Rebecca chose, such a unique coloration which caught my eye straight away when she unboxed it!
I'm such a sucker for banded flourite but all of them are so unique.
The green one, and the oen with the pink squares is pretty special, how they formed with a margin, incredible.
Omg I wish I could show you the fluorite from my locality, they're so crispy and dark

"It's particularly voluminous" I DIED 🤣
Even Rebecca can't deny the gloriousness of Rob's hair 🧔♀👀
I'm jealous. I wish my hair looked that good... but I came for the fluorite. 🤩
I recently went to a flourite museum in Kentucky and got to see numerous specimens of flourite with many banding, shapes etc. I’ll never forget the amazement i felt in the UV room
Rob's hair is really working for him 😍
How do you manage to NOT spend your paycheck every week- these are all so cool. THanks for sharing!
Good question!
I went to Asturia in October and found few small fluorite specimens on small village dirt road!
