God rest his precious soul. This man is a Texas legend and an inspiration to Troubadors far and wide. I was lucky enough to see him 4 times in concert. The wacko from Waco indeed.
Billy Joe Shaver is a Texas legend and he is a great performer who has persevered and definitely solidified his status as a historically relevant and significant songwriter.
I was first exposed to Billy Joe at a MOUNTAIN STAGE live show in Charleston, West Virginia. At the time, I didn't know how many great songs by him I already knew. The host of the show introduced him as "the real deal" and his Dickies work clothes backed that up. The old cowboy was MAGIC. I don't even recall who I was there to hear, but I left a complete fan of his authentic music. RIP and thanks for the great music.
I've been a "country music" guy since teenhood.........even had my own honkytonk band........but didn't discover BJS untill about five years ago. I done missed out on, perhaps, the best pure Texas sound ever sung. My bad. RIP, old sir.
fucken open the boarder up man. You Americans are awesome. I learnt so much listening to this guy. Billy Joe Shaver. We have something like him, name Bob snider.
My dreams are all dead and buried Sometimes I wish the sun would just explode When God comes and calls me to his Kingdom I'll take all ya son's of bitchs when I go Loves me some Billy Joes
waylon recorded an entire album of his songs, of which this was the title track. but in addition to being a great songwriter, shaver was a fine performer in his own right.
@@Robin-zb8qy u stoopid? He the one that wrote it and u always need that feedback from the audience, u give energy and u get it back but they're not really showing
@@Robin-zb8qy Billy Joe was old here and didn't seem to feel great. He also had an audience that I don't believe even knows who he was. There's always gonna be bad gigs, but Billy Joe Shaver is a legend among writers and performers. There will always be a place for him in country music history. You say you would have walked out, but I doubt that you would have ever been there, or really know who he was. RIP Billy Joe.
They are trying to understand the lyrics. I am trying to understand the lyrics. I wrote 'em out; this song is lyrical chaos. And yes, I like it anyway. But really, it means nothing. Incoherent, non linear, no story, and as the composer confesses, written initially as an eight year old. Um hmm, yup.
Billy Joe Shaver dead at 81. Between his birthday of August 16th and the day he died on October 28th is 73 days. Ritual Sacrifice in Gematria = 73. Also Shaver in Gematria = 73. Another celebrity death by the numbers. Death = 20. In 2020 we saw and continue to see a lot of celebrity death
RIP BILLY JOE! You truly were one of the greatest songwriters ever!
YESSS!
Billy Joe Shaver wrote songs with life lessons he'd been through. His tunes always spoke to me.
This Version is unmatched. Billie Joe brings back original country twank.
God rest his precious soul. This man is a Texas legend and an inspiration to Troubadors far and wide. I was lucky enough to see him 4 times in concert. The wacko from Waco indeed.
OMG! The way he danced made me wish he was 30 years younger! He must have been a handful in his life, good for him.
Rip buddy. I'll never forget you spending the night in our back house back in 03 after Waylon passed. Cheers boss.
That rug really ties the performance together.

Some Chinaman pissed on that rug

Ooo🎉lu😂leqkwwk
Bob Dylan refers to Billy Joe in his song, "I Feel A Change Coming On." That is enough recognition for me.
This video keeps bringing me back. I think this is one of the best versions for dancing. Also love to hear Waylon singing it . Both good.
A true Texas legend
This is one of my favorite Waylon songs, cool to hear the writer of the song perform the song.. Thanks for posting!

His music will live on forever.
Thanks for writing my favorite Waylon album, one of the best songwriters
Amen! Mine are as follows:
1. Honky-tonk Heroes (1973)
2. The Eagle (1990)
3. Dreaming My Dreams (1975)
Great performance! So old, but the man still gave it all. Even if his voice is a bit weak now, the personality is as energetic as ever.
What a legend.
I hope folks are kinder to you when you're older. He earned those lines, scars, and crack in his voice.
One of the all time greats!

Everyone: this guy was the greatest RIP!
Me: Is that the old dude from Bait Shop?
Old woman at 0:25 thought she was at the OPERA not the OPRY!!
The guitarist in this video has a new solo album ! ua-cam.com/video/nGXo53MY2tU/v-deo.html
RIP BJS
why does the crowd look so critical?
& he sings on pitch.
I'm well into the geriatric age but man this audience is dead.
Frank Fiello this place is always dead. It's a shame too. Damn good acts play there
prevail223 The issue is that they were not drugged.
he is playin @ the nursin home.....the nursin home blues
Yeah this audience aren’t into it.

He died today 10-28-2020.
Norm asked billy to just shoot him once for the experience
Kind of like what Ernest Tubb said he knew he could not sing but folks paid him.I'd rather be a song writer like Billy Joe Shaver.
i think he is half pissed
If I was Billing I would have just stopped and shook my head and walked off
He sounds exactly like Elvis.
Guitar is too loud and busy. I would have liked to have
heard Billy strumming.
The audience didn’t like it
They didn't need to be there not there kind of music they were at the wrong place the man in my book is a legend
Can't take it.
Can you not see that he was drunk as Fuck ?
Takes one to know one i guess.
Maybe. But, at least he knows where his house keys are.
