3:25 the "stripper pole" beds that you're referencing would either be "canopy beds" or "four poster beds" first developed in the 1500's. You're *kind of* on the right track with the bug netting used on those beds but not entirely. A four poster bed (or tester bed) was used to hang curtains around to provide privacy from servants or gaurds, as well as to protect from drafts at night while trying to sleep. Canopy beds were used to help keep things from falling through the thatched roof (with no wood underneath) and on top of the bed (with or without you in it!) such as; bugs, mice, rats, animal droppings and other bits of gross from up on the roof. Infact - the thatched roofing from back then is where we got the saying "it's raining cats and dogs" from. The thick straw piled high would provide a warm place for critters to sleep, however, when it rained it would become very slippery and sometimes the animals would slip off the roof. 😅
My dad bought a house at a blind auction. It was a bank foreclosure supposedly worth $200K but selling for $30K. When we showed up to clean, it looked like this, and the previous owners were still living there. The bank said we had to pay to evicted because it was our house now and the bank wouldn’t cover the eviction costs. It took six months to evicted everyone and 4 1/2 years to clean it enough to sell it. We cleaned, painted, and did all replacements ourselves to save money, but it still cost $70K for renovations. At the end my dad was only able to sell it for $140K so at least he made money, I guess
Made some money, but how much money in comparison to what he could have made with the time spent fixing it? Man even a job cleaning sewers would be better than this house. Less chance of disease down there...
In my case lavender worked for mosquitos. I have ground level balcony on northern side. Ton of mosqitos every year from spring until late fall. Once a week i clean my balcony with lavender scented product, then use drops of natural lavender oil in the corners of the balcony. Works like a charm.
We’ve been sick with a. Cold for a week then got hit with a flu right at the end of it. I needed this to feel better about how behind I am right now 😭😭🥲
Printing life hack: If you need to print something go to your local public library. They typically have some computers set up, connected to a printer and it only costs about 10 cents per page. You might need a library card to be able to log into the computers but those are typically free.
Only at 1:13 she has the right idea but its mint plants! I can't remember if its the smell or a chemical but rodents don't like them and tend to steer clear. Thats why they're often used as garden companion plants since they also draw in beneficial insects
I do this also. I just recently taught my mom how to do this as well, so she isn't spending a stupid amount of money at Staples to print out any medical stuff she needs for her and my step-dad.
10:42 the Noid stopped being used due to a man with the last name Noid, thinking Dominos created the character to mock him, took two Dominos employees hostage and had them make him a pizza but didn’t hurt anyone. He took his own life 6 years later.
7:11 i bought a printer with refillable cartridges, and it's under 50 bucks for the refills! Printer works great, and I have printed TONS of full color art and documents. It used maybe half the ink in almost a year! Those old printers are such a rip-off that it's crazy!
The refillable will probably be the next one I get. The ink subscription Ken mentioned is 100% optional. I never subscribed since I only need ink like once a year.
@irisbear9421 it is definitely a great choice. I am an artist and I used it to make all my DVD, VHS art, and other things art related. I was shocked when I saw the price of the refill kit! It's like 46 bucks for ALL of the ink bottles, not just one! I will say this though...if you can get the "professional" model. It is probably going to be my next purchase in the future. Better scanner and slightly better printing capabilities for a reasonable price increase. Good photo paper and that printer... sweet prints for much less
As far as I'm aware, all rodents have capsaicin receptors, meaning they'll taste and smell the "spice" of the pepper. I've personally used it in my bird food since birds lack the same receptors, so they aren't affected by the peppers at all. Highly recommend either making or buying bird food with chili peppers included. It works great for keeping squirrels away.
For a printer, epson has a line that have refillable ink wells. I print a ton of stuff for school, and in 3 years ive replaced the black 1 time. For $20.
Not unless they seek it personally, the only hoarder episode that the hoarder actually was excited about change and didn't cause to many issues is because they had being seeing a therapist for like a month before hand
That herbal stuff - peppermint, garlic, cinnamon, pepper - might work for a little bit to keep rodents away, but it doesn't last long. Rodents are pretty smart, and they realize that the smell isn't actually dangerous (just like we learn that peppers aren't dangerous even though they hurt). I have a rodent repellent spray with all that stuff in it to keep mice out of my apartment, but it doesn't work. Same day I sprayed it around my radiators, a mouse showed up 😒. Don't @ me, I know I need to fill in the holes with steel wool and caulk up all the spaces between the floors and baseboards.
If you’re ok with it, get a cat. If you haven’t any of that steel wool stuff, I used the cat claws sticker protectors for furniture and it’s really strong. You can cut each sticker to fit. Haven’t seen a mouse since, they can’t chew through it.

Teacher here! The HP subscription is not required but if you're in a profession where you do lots of printing at home it is a cheaper option for ink (though many times you can get high capacity ink printers so you don't have to replace cartridges as often). Ink is expensive!!
At that point I'd just get a laser printer. They're more expensive to start with and their toner cartridges are more expensive than ink, but you can print a _lot_ more pages before you have to replace the toner, like 2x-4x minimum. Plus, since toner is already a dry powder, you don't have to worry about it drying out and ruining the cartridge if you don't print for a while.
It can be.... We bought a printer and the ink that came with it LOCKED the printer when our free sub ran out. The only way we could unlock it was to remove it from the Internet and put off brand cartridges in. And even then, when we connected it to the Internet again, it messed up again. That was two years ago, so maybe they fixed it finally, but it was pretty awful. We paid for the crap, paid for the ink that was worse quality than the off brand anyway, and then it practically destroyed itself with the ink it came with.... Definitely lost me as a customer due to how bad it was.
@SomeoneIusedtoknow-s1f OH yikes!! Never heard of that before! So glad I never went that route... it does sound like a nightmare. Sorry you went thru that - especially with garbage product.
1:13 good tip: I had a silverfish infestation in my old apartment from all the water damage. We put bay leaves in front of the holes where they liked to come out and we rarely saw them after that!
You can buy scent packets that contain oils from peppermint, balsam, cinnamon, and cypress. They get rid of mice within a couple days. I’ve used them at work and at home and they worked so well!! Probably work for rats too.
6:00 to be the um actually guy, if you can smell anything through your mask, that means that it is not effectively filtering the air. That's why for example, when you put on a gas mask or a rebreather, you block the intake ports and try to breathe in, and then block the outlet port and try to breathe out. Then you can make sure that you have a perfect seal if no air gets in or out. Otherwise, Imagine for example, if it was some kind of a toxic gas and you were wearing a gas mask, if you could smell it that means that it is still getting inside of your mask. More than likely the guy talking about being able to smell It doesn't have his mask set on his face properly
I got an online subscription and the second I didn't have the $1.99 monthly fee, they turned off my printer ink cartridge via internet even when it's full!!!!
15:16 I feel bad for those exterminators because there’s no way they could have done their job effectively when the floors were literally trash and trash everywhere
kenneth i JUSt finished making an egg and cheese sandwich so i can eat and listen to this whole im cleaning out my hoarder mother's kitchen cabinet. thanks for sharing your voice with us all these years
i saw someone mention in a video the other day that their printer wasn't working and they didn't know why, and they called the company and it turned out the company disabled the printer because their credit card on file had expired
The only printer you need is a brother toner machine. I went over a year on the starter cartridge, paid next to nothing for the replacement. Nothing dries out, it’ll print just as well after months of non use as it does with a fresh cartridge installed. Brother is the king of printers.
dude yor rant on Big Printer is SO REAL. The way I pulled out an old printer from the closet to print something recently and the company had stopped making driver updates so there wasnt one that was compatible with my computer... so i had to buy a whole new printer even though the old one worked fine... it just wouldnt connect to my newer computer .-.
My in laws are hoarders and every time I watch a show about it I'm thankful they're not on that level but at the same time I become hyper aware of it and worried for them. They just moved into a camper and instead of throwing their useless things away they bought a storage shed and had to add on to fit all their stuff in it. My husband and I are now in a tiny home and getting rid of all our junk was the best part lol
Printer usage tip, each time You finish printing take cartridges out and place them in a jar, due to limited air amount they are likely to stay workable due to faaar slower drying out
I work on scales and occasionally we have to work on truck scales at landfills like under the trailers where they push it off into the pit and I can say with 100% certainty that those rats are not really all that big the ones at the dump will walk away with a raccoon
My printer/scanner is from 2007 and its been reliable. It keeps the ink fine but you can take it out and put the cap back on for all printers. Its an option.
Speaking of printers.. I recently bought a printer bc I needed it for my hobby of doing nails, it worked for A DAY and then never got it to connect again. They provided a free trial for the ink subscription service and you have to tell them how many times you’ll print something and they will send the equivalent of ink. But I heard ppl say the company locked their ink cartridges they stopped paying for the subscription. Idk if that’s true though.
A fair few years ago, I watched someone react to an episode Where there was a blind lady, who thought her son had moved out They found his corpse in the trash
Woof. Hearing Ken talk about the cost of land vs cost of structure thing was rough. My partner and I found out too late that we couldn't knock down our rotting southern Mississippi home to rebuild because of the rules around mortgages and the base value of the property. Thank goodness we got outta that situation.
The printing conversation around 8 minutes - I used to take documents to FedEx something or other on a flash drive and you can print them there. You can also do it at most public libraries depending on where you live, and it's either very cheap or free. I haven't owned a printer in roughly 20 years.
Took a break from watching the channel for about a year. Started watching every video I missed over the year 3 months ago and now I'm caught up again 🙃

people in third world countries use canopy beds and put a huge mesh net to hang on it to act as like a safe place to sleep bc theres so many bugs

Peppermint oil in a diffuser will clear things out quickly. Did that in my garage to help with skunk smell. The mice dashed out and away.
Just don't put mint directly in the ground unless you want to constantly be waging war against it to keep it in its designated spot of the yard

It’s offered and paid for but unfortunately they rarely take it and/or stay consistent with it.

They just moved into a camper and instead of throwing their useless things away they bought a storage shed and had to add on to fit all their stuff in it. My husband and I are now in a tiny home and getting rid of all our junk was the best part lol
I thought Michelle would have cleaned all this up by now 😂
Printer usage tip, each time You finish printing take cartridges out and place them in a jar, due to limited air amount they are likely to stay workable due to faaar slower drying out
I work on scales and occasionally we have to work on truck scales at landfills like under the trailers where they push it off into the pit and I can say with 100% certainty that those rats are not really all that big the ones at the dump will walk away with a raccoon
8:00 I work at staples here in the us and yep, you just email your documents to the printer and you’re good to go :)
I actually do have food and are sat comfortably
Yeah I felt called out...😂
I literally just sat down for lunch. 😂
Good to hear, but it's am sat not are, just a word thing ❤
Whenever I feel really bad about not being able yo clean my depression room for way too long, I just look at videos like these and feel better
Funny thing is that Im actually sitting down now with my lunch. I felt so called out in the intro lol
The printer ink crap was absolutely diabolical.
Just rewatched Ratatouille last night, they should know that they got a prime army of cooks there to take advantage of 😂
9:55 Is the toilet in the room with us?
Nah fr why did I click on a Hoarders video while I was actively eating 0:01 😂
Me too lol
Dane! Video started and you had the best smile. That gives me joy today. Thank you.
3:26 They're called bed posts 😂
Ken, who has had a hair transplant, talking about giving it up is peak irony.
My printer/scanner is from 2007 and its been reliable. It keeps the ink fine but you can take it out and put the cap back on for all printers. Its an option.
This makes my apartment look like a operating room
you can always print at your local library, usually under a dollar, just have to have a library card
It's called having a "Bonfire", I'm about to have one of those soon!
Man, when I was a kid in the 70's I couldn't even look a the Swiss Miss lady!
8:07 UPS stores do this
A fair few years ago, I watched someone react to an episode
Where there was a blind lady, who thought her son had moved out
They found his corpse in the trash
I saw that one, too
ITS MY BIRTHDAY, Ive waited too long for this 😎 thanks buff and Ken!!
Woof. Hearing Ken talk about the cost of land vs cost of structure thing was rough. My partner and I found out too late that we couldn't knock down our rotting southern Mississippi home to rebuild because of the rules around mortgages and the base value of the property. Thank goodness we got outta that situation.
7:09 buff, I use to think that too until I started homeschooling. I need to invest in a bigger printer 😅
Thank you for coming back to hoarders. Idk why but we needed it. I gotta have breaks but I enjoy these when it works to watch.
