@@marcoferrao I totally agree that it takes a lot of education and experience to make good teachers. Teacher ed is not doing a good job at that letting unqualified people become teachers. But it's also a egg and chicken problem. Many, and probably the majority, of the teachers do not show that they worth more than what they are paid for. And it became a low-paid "industry" where quality people don't enter.

I've worked as a teacher for five years. It's hard to be 100% every day. I teach from 8-3 with a 50-minute break each day, and I'm burnt out by the time my afternoon classes roll around. The best thing I've learned is to not teach all the time. Teach mini-lessons for 5-10 mins, have the students work together for a little bit, then shift to independent assignments. The bulk of the work is independent, so I try to make that as engaging and hands-on as possible so kids don't become disruptive over boring assignments.

The amount of emotional and mental energy that teaching takes is vastly underrated.
Many teachers are overloaded with classes to teach, and we can't perform as well as we'd like to.
Students would benefit so much and teachers would be much happier if those in power understood this.

Just as said in the vid, Teaching is very complex, so We should be investing more in education, and in the education, the teachers. For humanity to truly improve, "we must learn to learn".

Your teaching made me feel brilliant in a world that kept telling me I was stupid and predisposed for failure. I completed assignments ahead of time and read through the entire text book several times for my own enjoyment. Today I am still someone who cares about the lives of folks around the world who walk a different life than myself. I am still able to wonder about who other people are in depth and wonder and joy.

I can ask her anything and she'll answer it flawlessly (which my recent teacher can't). She noticed every little details or changes of her student and immediately found a way to talk to them, listen to their stories and not judge them by all means.
When she transferred to other institution, i cried my heart out and couldn't get over it. Now, I'm still miss her so much.

An important thing for a teacher I believe is to complement a student's honest efforts.
It's a simple psychology. There are students who never get enough credit for than what they originally deserve so simply complementing their little achievements at a young age boosts their motivation dramatically and also helps them grow with a positive vibe.

I'm in the teaching program in Hungary, learning to be a teacher, a second parent, a friend, an example and a human in the same time to my future students. I have to learn for that to be a more emphatic person, self-regulation, constructivity, situationality, collaboration, responsibility and I am sure we could list a lot more things. A teacher also have to be intresting to their students and also highly educated, and learn like constantly. I wasn't sure if i really want to be a teacher but I found myself challenged and I found myself enjoying the process, the learning and the improving part of the whole thing. I really glad now because I am sure I want be a whole life teacher in some different ways. It is very complex profession and it is hard to change others' way of thinking about teachers but we have to do our best and create a better life, a better education for the future's children. I am very thankful for all my theachers who are motivating me with their own motivation to be an appropiate teacher some day. -ELTE's theachers in Hungary

My most impressive teachers were in physics and chemistry in middle school. Physics was, in retrospect, very impressive, because I had no problems there, although the teacher had high expectations and I regularly almost failed maths. When we had a change of teacher in maths and got him as a new teacher, my grades on the report card rose by 2 grade points in 3 years (I had to make up a lot) and thus enabled me to pursue further school careers.
My chemistry teacher, while we were studying the Bohr atomic model in class, sat me down and talked to me about how the paths of electrons are calculated and what different shapes their paths can take. He encouraged me to learn more about the subjects that actually interested me, even if it wasn't supposed to be 'age-appropriate'.

Excellent video! Although I understand the need to stress the majour role teachers play, yet factors such as uniforms, classroom size, etc. do matter in some ways, depending on the circumstances. And yes, they may not be directly related to academic learning in schools, but can be related to wellbeing, social and emotional learning and a positivo and inclusive school environment. These, in turn do have an impact on academic learning and achievement.

My children didn't want help for homework when I offered it. The son discovered how to program Lego Mindstorms Robot completely on his via our notebook PC and later took it to his elementary school class for teaching his friends. My 3 children visited Montessori Kinderhaus (Kindergarten), M. Elementary School, 2 girls also M. Gesamtschule (Abitur ~ High school?). Great videos and comments. I teach online one-to-one and this can be very challenging when teaching children 8 years old and above. It is truly important to make classes engaging, but for a teacher it can be too much engagment. Sadly, kids will expect this and use it as play time and forget what they've learned. As a teacher, I'm learning to balance it and keep them educating me of what they've learned and apply it to real life.

I’m struggling to be a teacher, I teach in a trade school, hydraulics…and while I know it from a practical standpoint, teaching the curriculum is harder than I expected. The school gives me the book and says…teach this…very frustrating. I do however love the teaching part and I’m sure I’ll improve thanks to watching and learning from videos like this…so appreciate them.

From my experience the teachers I liked the most weren't necessarily the ones best at teaching (they weren't bad at it either), but all teachers I disliked the most were absolutely terrible at sharing their knowledge.
    Examples:
My homeroom teacher (she taught biology) in a few years of elementary school was great, but not because of her ways of making us understand things. Her most important skill was... caring. We knew she was seriously worried about us when we were misbehaving or studying poorly so we had to try harder because it'd feel bad to let her down. If she was to try punishing or yelling at us, we wouldn't care that much.
The worst teacher I've ever unfortunately knew was my math teacher in university. I believe she was good at mathematics herself, but didn't know how to make us understand anything and was simply mean. She refused to start and end our classes a few minutes later and was angry at us every single time we got there late (it was impossible for the students without their own cars to get there in time because the previous class was taking place in a different building quite far away) so everyone was in a bad mood during classes at first and later we just learned to ignore her nagging. Studying during her classes meant rewriting what she wrote on the blackboard into our notepads often without understanding. At first we tried asking her questions when we didn't understand something, but she'd rarely answer and instead we'd only hear how displeased she is with our knowledge level so we stopped asking. In the end she was fired and replaced with other teachers. It turned out the students here were actually not bad at math at all and simply needed someone to explain things to them and answer questions without making them feel dumb.

Mr Butterworth, my secondary school history teacher, was easily one of the best educators I ever met. He was known to buy shoes for the neglected children in the school who couldn't afford their own. When I was in year 7 he dug out an old school photo of my dad who'd died when I was a boy. It turns out he'd taught him too.
