The Grand National - Cresta Run

21 brave riders made three runs down the World famous course, which has ten corners and is 0.75 miles (1.2 kms) long. Riders can reach speeds of 75 mph (120 kph).
The winner was Nico Juelich from Champfèr, Engadin in Switzerland. It was the second time he has won the Grand National in as many years.
The Grand National is the blue-ribbon event of the short Cresta Run Tobogganing season in St Moritz in Switzerland. The event has been described as ‘the last bastion of amateur sport’ and is the only toboggan run in the world devoted to head-first sledding.
Every spring the track melts away and has to be constructed again by hand once the winter snow returns. As it lacks high banking, the Cresta riders frequently come off over the bank.

One of the reasons this rich man's sport was so renowned was the fact that at the end of the 19th century, just after the activity's founding, they were the fastest men in the world. Nothing went faster. It earned participants respect.

The poor guy was in a 4 week come broke all of his ribs. Lucky he recovered and is still riding.
