When I was at the step 2 scout leader course here in Norway, we learned about the Scouts Own. We were given suggestions on how a Scouts Own can be; having a particular subject, a quote related to the subject, and maybe a biblical quote or something like that. But we were also told that it didn’t have to contain any of these, and that a Scouts Own can be held in so many ways as long as you follow the basic spirit of the ceremony.

Thank you sooooooo much for this Mark. You have given me many ideas for the Scouts Own that I am running for our Council's Cuboree this June. Our theme for the camp is "Superheroes" and your reference to the Law and Promise gave me another jumping off point.

@@bigmaninthewoods Although i have a Captain America hoodie and a full Superman (a Scout and was "born" in Canada - Joe Shuster, the creator, was Canadian) outfit, I have been asked to read the Baden-Powell, Chief Scout of the World as BP as part of the friday evening events. For Saturday, I will be apearing as SuperScout - BP with a World Scout flag as a cape.

With Cubs we tend to offer suggestions to get a conversation going. With my current group it's been usual to have Cubs Own on the final morning after camp has been broken, breakfast is washed up and we're almost at flag down. However, I like the notion of holding this around the campfire as that's when the best discussions often happen.

Tbh we very rarely seem to do them (in our Sections) these days. I did/have done them at some of our campfires we have done. They were very popular during our virtual campfires that we did.

According to my paper work I recieved during my campfire lead training scout own is an act of worship. But as we all know it isnt. The paper work is well behind with the times! So this is something I need to bring into the 21st century. Personally I just call the Scouts own thinking time (eg get the participents to think about the world around and what's happening in the world and maybe get them thinking about they time/day at camp, how they can be a better person)

I took part in my first ever Scouts Own (knowingly) last year at the district camp (I was a invited guest the ink on mine and the wife's application form was still wet) was a nice event. I have struggled to think about how to do my own version during camp(s) as my group as a YP never really did a set Scouts Own (we did however sit and sing (admittedly quite rude) songs but never really did a "official one" strange really as my group was attached to the local Methodist Church (so maybe that was maybe the reason)
