- Hi guys, thanks for joining me as i discuss my work around for converting paper patterns including full size Mirabilia’s across into a digital format without the need for a scanner. This is such a simple way and I hope you find it useful! Xx

Hello, a couple of people have mentioned that the PDF converter app alters the orientation of the photo they pull across to Goodnotes. I’ve found a work around for this issue. Once the image is in Goodnotes you can rotate the image to get the pattern to sit in the orientation you need. Let me know if you want me to do an additional upload explaining this? Xx

Hi Carol! Good to meet you, welcome to my channel! X
Omg this is going to help me so much with my mirabillia and the disney thomas kinkade patterns😍 going to share this in the group
Glad it was helpful! Xx
Great tutorial! I basically do the same thing but I use the iBooks app that came on my iPad. I take a photo of the paper pattern with my iPad. When I select it from my photo album there is a square symbol with an up arrow in the upper right corner that I click on. From there I choose the option Save PDF to Books. In my Books library I can select/open the PDF and when I tap the top middle of the screen there is a pencil symbol and I can choose to highlight or take notes. I can also zoom in and out. It works the same as GoodNotes. I can also save purchased instant downloads this way. I do have a newer iPad so I don't know if this works on older ones. Chelsea from Priscilla & Chelsea, The Real Housewives of Cross Stitch, mentioned that she uses her iPad this way so I gave it a try and it works great.
Hi! I just tried this, and it works great! Thank you so much for sharing!!! 🙂
@@mm-qm9zh Your welcome! I'm glad you like it!
I used to do the same. But since updating to ios 13.1.2, whenever I reopen the pattern, it hasnt saved what I marked off at that time before exiting. Then occassionally the app will just close on me. 13.1.3 said it had fixed bugs etc, so I updated to that, it still does it. Bummer, as I really enjoyed doing my pattern on ibooks, now Im having to try Goodreader
I will give a try
Thank you for the lovely and informative video. ❤️
Thanks so much xx
Thank you very much Lisa, I am presently grappling with a Gecko rouge paper chart , so this will be very helpful! Cheers, Karen
Glad it was helpful Karen, I’m starting a Gecko rouge kit soon, so will use then too xx
Your demo is very clear and easy to follow. I found a similar way to create PDF files. Bunt I import them into an App called Pattern Keeper which is fabulous. Only runs on Android unfortunately but great app.
This was very helpful - thank you.
Thanks Lyn, I’m glad you found it useful! Xx

Hi Lisa thank you for this have a problem I went and got the app GoodNotes but it’s version 5 and looks nothing like yours have you any experience with this one I’m technically challenged but love to have a go at digital patterns hope you don’t mind me reaching out to you regards
Shirley 😥
I was disappointed. The title seemed to have so much promise, but alas, it is Apple specific and Good Notes is a subscription. You not only have to pay to get access to the app, but you also have to pay more to use all of it's functions. However, excellent presentation and the instruction is clear and easy to follow. If I chose, I could do these steps quite easily on my iPad. I like that Good Notes has an undo feature, which Pattern Keeper does not have.
I take a photo and open in the iBook app, which comes installed on the iPad, and it will convert ant photo to a pdf for free, fab Video
Very informative. Thank you!
On iOS if you long press Notes app a menu will appear from which you can select “Scan Document”. It allows you to do basic color correction, cropping, rotating on the captured image. You can do one scan after another and at the end save the entire project as a pdf. So no need to take a picture and covert to pdf with separate app.
That doesn't happen on my notes on my MacBook Air. Is it just an iPad thing? ty 🙂
@@cocojo2356 Just checked again since we’ve had iOS updates since. Now in the iPhone or iPad you press the ellipses menu icon and you’ll see [scan] come up as one of several menu items. IDK about the MacBook Air but my guess is you’ll see the same ellipses (…) at the top right of the Notes app window. Give it a try. 😊
@@sicplano I managed to get it on my phone but not on my laptop. Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it. Now just to try and make the pattern, lol. I'm not very good with technology, but I'm willing to try so getting help is very much appreciated. 💐
I tried to do a mirabilia chart ,but it just went blurry when l pinched to enlarge ,could you do a mirabilia chart to show how you get it to work please ?
What if you already have the pattern in PDF form from Pinterest which are usually just one page? Could you give the instructions to do this? Whenever I try the pattern is so small and always on one page. Thank you.
I decided to try this. I have a question. My pattern photo came up in portrait instead of landscape - how can I rotate it? thanks.
Oh, it sure about that one, I’ve not noticed it. Let me have a look and see if I can find a solution. Let me know if you’ve solved the problem! Xx
Hello, I’ve found a work around for you. Once the image is in good notes you can change the orientation to get the pattern to sit in the orientation you need. Let me know if you want me to do an additional upload explaining this? Xx
How do you do the mirabilia because I want too do that but no idea because they are so big
Hi, just use exactly the same process by taking a photo of the pattern and then converting across, I couldn’t demo on a mirabilia pattern for this due to copyright. I have found it possible to get each side of my Mirabilia Persephone pattern across this way with no issues. I hope this helps?
But I wouldn’t be able too put the whole chart in one picture would I per each side
You would end up with two separate images, one for each side of the page, but this wouldn’t affect how you stitch and use the pattern as the large Mira’s are split in two anyway. I have found this more useful than taking multiple scans of the pattern as it is too big to fit on an A4 size scanner.
Thank you Lisa I will try it in 2 weeks when I get a AppStore card too download the apps
Sorry I forgot to ask, which version of Good notes are you using, the free or pay for one ? Thanks again, Karen
I’m fairly sure I didn’t pay for it as I have just the basic functionality. Xx
You cant rotate the pattern?

My chart is the correct way on my photograph but it comes up in portrait instead of landscape in the PDF app! Do you know how to change this please?
Hi Carol, someone else has asked this same question. This Is not something I’ve noticed, but leave it with me and I’ll see if I can find a solution. Xx
