I actually spoke with the animator of this death battle. He said working with the Snake model was very difficult as he was working with the model from smash brother brawl, where he's hunched over, so he had to rework the entire animation rig for Snake.
@@mmangalisomasinga432I’m late af but I’m 99% sure the work is done by Torrian. So he’s done a ton of work for Death Battle (this, Wolverine vs Raiden, Ryu vs Jin, Deathstroke vs Deadpool, etc.) and worked on Red vs Blue Zero.
Fun fact: Solid Snake’s voice actor in this Death Battle is none other than Chris Sabat, the official English voice actor for Piccolo and Vegeta from Dragon Ball.
One thing the Death Battle didn't really emphasize to make the fight seem fairer is the Metal Gear fights. In each game, Snake regularly duels giant mechs with nothing more than hand grenades, rockets, and his wits. On top of that, Fisher has only fought other soldiers or assassins, but Snake can punch the Cyborg Ninjas hard enough to dent their armor, jumped off Manhattan bridge and land on a tanker without getting hurt, survived said tanker sinking while inside, and completed similar feats throughout all of MGS4 while he was physically in his 70s-80s. Snake is about as close as you can get to superhuman in Metal Gear without actually being one, considering his enemies are psychics, ghost soldiers, vampire mercs, and cyborg ninjas.
The Cyborg Ninja fight alone is enough to justify a victory over Sam in any fashion. Ninja being able to slice bullets giving him extremely fast reaction speed, and durable enough to withstand Rex vs Snake being able to outfight, hurt and react to him is really all that's needed. And this isn't even counting other feats like fighting Vamp later on while his body was failing.
As much as I love Splinter Cell, the Tom Clancy universe is relatively grounded in reality whereas Metal Gear is historical fiction. Their feats just don't compare. Besides, fucking nanomachines lol
@@AWACS_Snowblind Yep, I'm a huge Splinter Cell fan, but even I knew that Sam was doomed in this fight. Bethany, in Sam's defense, the game gives you the option to use non-lethal or lethal methods on all enemies, so the choice to take out the doggo is entirely on the player. And canonically, he only uses lethal (if any force at all) if absolutely necessary, so he's not such a bad guy. Loved the reaction you two!
I hate having to kill animals in game, specially dogs or seeing it happen. When I played that part, I remember trying to avoid the dogs or if it came to it, using a non lethal approach. But yeah, players can definitely go out of the box in the way they play.

This is my all-time favorite Death Battle. The choreography, rigging, voice acting, jokes, and music were all on point. I'm also huge Metal Gear Solid fan, and have played and/or reviewed all the main games in the series. I know it makes me sound biased, but I knew Snake would win as soon as they first announced the matchup. They actually had to overlook/tone down his abilities to make the fight fair. His performance in MGS1 alone would have been more than enough evidence to beat Sam. It's still so much fun to watch.
I love the analysis of the microwave hallway being comparable to an EMP. That hallway scene went on for over 2 minutes. That should have cooked not only the nanomachines, but his living tissue as well, Snake is literally built tougher
I remember people joking during the lead up to this Death Battle. Saying stuff like "These two would end up encountering each other in a dark room, we'd get a few muzzle flashes, and then when the lights come on, we'd have a winner. Easiest Death Battle to animate." Turns out that they actually had that planned for the actual battle, but more as a set up for the final phase of the fight.

Yeah, in Snake's universe, a lot of top grade soldiers all have heard of him as practically a living legend. Besides Metal Gears, he fights off the cybernetic-enhanced foes. His typical fights are practically legendary. In fact onlookers seeing him in action take him and his "legend" seriously, and even want to follow it like some kind of great symbol. Throughout the series quite a few people want to compete with him or have even changed sides. They also set these notions of standards in how things get handled "honestly". In 5 there was the "Do it yourself!" whenever something was for your own good and you were in unbearable agony like popping joints back into place or the main antagonist begging to be put to death and being left with the gun to do it, and all his limbs shot, and himself stuck. Before that one in 3 was "Fight like a man!" to imply less dirty play and be forward with what they should be capable of as they claim to be, and in the end the antagonist couldn't really live up to that either, but the real ending of 3 led with Snake killing his own mother of the field who taught him everything. The big difference from those to 5 is that in 5 isn't the real Snake, but they purposely have everyone, even the player think that's who they're being to great success.
what i like about snake is that he's grounded. despite his legendary rep, snake doesn't see himself as a hero. simple a solider. and he has a lot of people who care about him because he's so damn humble and his willingness to do a job that would make the world a better place. and his friendship with otacon is great as well. when they first met, he was a mulling coward who pissed himself and was almost always annoying him in the first game. by the second game, they were partners and the best of friends, despite having very little in common. snake always counts on otacon to come through over the radio and when someone needs to fly a chopper and otacon knows snake will survive anything to get the mission done.
The Death Battle crew mentioned that they wanted to do this for a long time but weren't sure how to have 2 stealthy characters fight. One person even said that they wanted the fight to start in a warehouse full of boxes, then nothing happens for a bit, one box slightly moves, K.O. Obviously this is way better but still funny to think about. Since you're watching older episodes might I recommend my all time favorite episode: Godzilla vs Gamera.
fun fact: otacon isn't his real name. his real name is dr. hal emmerich. "otacon" is a nickname/code name he gave himself. it short for "otaku convention". that's right. he's a massive weeb! :D
well, this was quite a good fight. also, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the patriots, the game clip that was shown with Snake saying that he's no hero, is so depressive, that it's like depression was a person, wrote a book, and then made a live-action tv-show of that book. translation: the game is gonna make you sad at the end. or throughout the adventure. it kinda depends. either way, this fight was awesome. :)
As soon as they played the clip with the dog, I instantly knew who Bethany was betting on lol. This is easily one of my top 5 death battles. Its such a good one.
15:46 Okay so slight correction, Solid Snake is actually caked tf up in a lot of the games. It really just depends on which one youre playing. I mean, Solid Snake is the origin of the "Colonel, Im trying to sneak around but im dummy thick and the clap of my ass cheeks keeps alerting the guards" meme.
This is still my favorite Death Battle. No cosmic bs, no super powers, just two highly trained operatives in their environment trying to beat the crap out of each other.
Technically Snake is a super Soldier. It just so happens that in MG Verse, the enemies have literal super powers whether it is by cybernetic enhancements, nanomachines or just supernatural powers. But Snake has beaten them all.
You know Sam Fisher didn't kill the dog, it's the player who did that, you have the choice to kill or knock down your enemy, you can be both lethal or non lethal. Sam is a sweat heart he wouldn't hurt a dog. I blame the player lol.
Just to correct you guys on one tidbit of information you're wrong about. Snake isn't engineered to be a better soldier. He's part of the project involving that end, but he's more of a by product of it. His twin brother "liquid snake" was the genetically superior soldier, having all the "soldier genes" of their father. Before anyone says "no you're wrong sir" it's in the end credits audio to "metal gear solid" for the PS1, revolver ocelot talking to the then president George Sears(solidus snake, big boss' exact clone with out the gene therapy and alterations). And ocelot says "so the inferior one is the winner after all. To the very end, liquid thought he was the inferior one". The stipulated idea is that the project that created the twin snakes was testing the nature vs nurture theory. Liquid being told he was not the super soldier, but snake is, living a shit life, while snake lived a decent ish one. Liquid growing up as a child soldier while snake got his training like any enlisted man, and then being trained by daddy dearest himself. Snake genetically is supposed to be the worst soldier by comparison to his twin brother liquid. But snake beat him. And compared to Sam Fischer, again he's genetically a bad soldier. He just has better training, experience, and way better toys
I really need a release date on the splinter cell remake it’s been so long since I’ve played a splinter cell game, my second favourite video game franchise of all time.
The 5 seven handgun uses armour Peircing rounds ment to go through Kevlar armour which is why in some games they make the gun kinda weak but hit 2 targets if aligned in same line.....strange
Solid snake is literally legendary cause he kills legends 💀 Death battle didn't show how good big boss is, but he's easily the best soldier around having done the impossible time and again. And Solid snake beat him 🥶
20:00 😂 the excitement and the shocks on your faces makes this the best video ever. (Bethany's thats what you get for killing a puppy at the end 😂 moment will live on for ever)
Anyone who've played both games, it's hard to argue that Solid Snake wouldn't win. He has fought basically meta-humans and won with minimum equipment. In the 4th game, he was so handicapped in fighting due to his old age and etc, but STILL he fought a giant mech, crazy meta-human ladies, and survived a goddamn microwave. Death Battle got it right as well, when it comes to Close Quarter Combat, Snake had the edge, as CQC is usually how Snake finishes the final "Boss" battles. I recommend for ya'll to check out the Metal Gear Solid series, it's like watching a James Bond movie. You honestly don't even need to play the game as the creator, Hideo Kojima, is a huge fan of Hollywood, so there's a lot of cinematic scenes, you can kinda just watch the cutscenes to understand everything. The 4th game has so much cutscenes, it's like watching a movie with a side of gameplay.
I always hated what they did to Snake in those games. I get that at release MGS3 was the best looking Snake at the time graphically. But any fan of the series will instantly know that's not "Solid" Snake. But Naked Snake with Solid Snakes body.. super goofy.
So, quick bit of trivia. This music syncs PERFECTLY with Moby's James Bond theme used for Sean bond films, exact same BPM. This COULDN'T HAVE BEEN intentional...right?
At 18:45 had Sam used his thermal vision he would have known that snake wasn’t in the box because it’s capable of detecting heat signatures and would have known that the box was a trap!
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure Sam didn't kill that dog but put it to sleep. Throwing it was just the games function to hide bodies, so others don't find them.
Man this battle was nuts and awesome 😄 seems crazy that I been thinking to play both games when I was younger but never gotten around it since the rating for games was too violent for my parents to get me. Till now I might order both games for my GameCube or PlayStation to play.
Yeah, anything out of stealth Sam becomes screwed. We’re talking about a man who fights psychics, cyborgs, entire governments, supersoldiers, and mechs on a yearly basis.
Aaahhh, Hideo Kojima and his games. As Bethany noted, Solid Snake did indeed castrate that statue, a perfect example of how Hideo Kojima is essentially the Amadeus Mozart of video games. As sophisticated as his games are, he does not shy away from potty humor, quite literally. Just like Mozart made a song dedicated to farts and feces, Kojima also likes to incorporate such jokes in his games. One such example is in MGS2 where an enemy soldier unknowingly accidentally pisses on the player's head. Yeah.... that is a thing. The story of MG/S is quite fascinating (Talking about how the game came to be) as the entire genre of "Stealth Action Adventure" came to be due to hardware limitations. Kojima was hired to develop a game for the MSX, a very old console with very limited hardware capability. He wanted to make a shooter, but with the limited resources couldn't fit in all that many enemies. Thus he came up with the idea that instead of focusing on fighting the enemies, he challenged players to avoid them instead and sneak past the enemies. As such, the game franchise has taken a pacifistic approach and outlook, rewarding players for avoiding violence. MGS3 is most notable in this aspect as it has 1 boss fight, which gets more difficult based on the number of people you've killed. Similarily in MGS4 there is an aesthetic aspect where your character become increasingly demonic looking the more violent you are. Overall all of the games focus heavily on the theme of nuclear disarmament and the inherent danger nuclear weapons have as well as peace in general, a common theme in Japanese media for understandable reasons. Solid Snake to Raiden: "I am not exaggarating when I say that the success of this mission hinges on how you use that cardboard box!" Naked Snake (Later named Big Boss) to SIGINT: "You should come inside the box, then you'll know what I mean." Sigint: "Man, I don't wanna know what you mean!" The cardboard box is ICONIC for ALL Metal Gear games! Also, you might've noticed that Solid Snake aged quite a bit on the scene where he emasculated that statue. As he is a clone of Big Boss, he suffers from rapid aging and as such has a significantly shorter life span than most humans. As for the fight itself, I have to note that Snake's aerobatics were not canon. Yes, he did have those moves in one remake of MGS1 (The Twin Snakes), but when it comes to the differences between the original and TTS, the original is considered canon and thus those aerobatics are a little out of place in this fight. As for the result, I think it's fine, I've played both games and I personally think it's a close call, don't mind either result. I suppose it's fitting that it ends in a Close Quarters Combat as that is Snake's speciality, but personally would've preferred if Sam died some other way rather than in a knife fight.
As someone who has played both series alot and is a bigger fan of Snake overall, I would still put my money on Sam. While there's absolutely no question thst Snake far outclasses Sam in hand to hand combat, Sam is undeniably a quicker and more accurate marksman, able to consistanly headshot multiple targets in a row in under a second. Snake would not be able to take on Oscelot in an open area without something to hide behind, and i think that the same could be said of Sam. Granted this fight is in a building with things to hide behind, but i still think that Sam had enough chances to headshot Snake.
Maybe you could watch a few Cyberpunk 2077 trailers. After over 2 years with a few major patches and the upcoming DLC the game is a lot closer to what was promised to us. I'd recommend the Official Gameplay Trailer, Official E3 Trailer, Lifepaths trailer, Tools of Destruction trailer and the Diner trailer. Keep up the good work!
So the only reason she picked Snake is because Sam took out the dogs he had no choice if those dogs would have seen him they would have attacked him an alert more enemies not all dogs are friendly 💯💯💯💯
You put those in the wrong spot, watch a "short" movie of it. There we go. There are more house of cutscenes in mgs than there are hours of gameplay in most AAA fps titles
Worth Mentioning but Ubisoft themself the company that owns Sam Fisher paid respect to Solid Snake ..just search in UA-cam both of these characters interacted with Sam praising Snake
I've never been mad at these I find these videos entertaining and fun, however the only reason this one was the exception is because Snake received outside help as opposed to relying on his own capabilities and instincts.
In honor of Snake's victory lets play a little game, Can you guess which one of these isn't a real Metal Gear quote A."Forget Pax Americana. Say hello to Pax Hamburgana" B."Wipe this Meme from the face of the earth" C."Remember to dampen the recoil when using an automatic" D"Now there's a pretty meme, exquisite"
I was willing to join the bet for snake and add 1000 monopoly dollars on snake and i knew he was gonna win i know about metal gear story and lore and snake is ridiculously powerful and skilled add to that the fact he was in smash bros twice and battled monsters from the monster hunter world and even the monkeys from ape escape so he has more experience with unknown and odd enemies. Plus the dude battles metal gears those things are literally nuke launchers with legs

I mean, Solid Snake is the origin of the "Colonel, Im trying to sneak around but im dummy thick and the clap of my ass cheeks keeps alerting the guards" meme.
Definitely one of the better ones from the older era, my friend’s favorite
This is one of the GREATEST episodes of Death Battle.
15:46 - The model they used for this video did Snake dirty.
Snake completes most of his missions double cheeked up on a Thursday afternoon.
Watching METAL GEAR Series cut scenes is a MUST
its more relevant now more than ever at this point (especially MGS2 and soon enough MGS4)
"That's what you get for killing a puppy" you mean the wild animal trying to kill him while also giving away his location?
Also!!!!!!
Props to the legend "Christopher R. Sabat" one of the best anime VA's out there for his portrayal of solid snake for this death battle
Sam Fisher is actually in Rainbow Six: Siege! his operator name is 'Zero' personally hes one of my favorite characters ever
Man this fight till this day feels so close between these two legendary soldiers
Big boss was not in the first game that was venom snake designed to look like him if im not mistaken
Fun fact the voice actor for snake is Christopher sabet who’s the English dub voice for Vegeta
This one is in my Top 10 Favourite DBs.
The Five Seven uses 5.7mm high velocity sharp rounds. Designed for cqb against kevlar armour. The P90 uses the same ammunition
@@hf117j thanks for that info
Solid snake is literally legendary cause he kills legends 💀 Death battle didn't show how good big boss is, but he's easily the best soldier around having done the impossible time and again. And Solid snake beat him 🥶
20:00 😂 the excitement and the shocks on your faces makes this the best video ever. (Bethany's thats what you get for killing a puppy at the end 😂 moment will live on for ever)
Ah, a classic. Still love that "You're pretty good" line, so awesome!! (≧▽≦)
Fun fact Chris sabat aka official vegeta/ piccolo plays snake in this episode
I can't believe they recreated that Smash Bros abomination model. Solid Snake's body with his clone father's head. It looks so wrong.
I always hated what they did to Snake in those games. I get that at release MGS3 was the best looking Snake at the time graphically. But any fan of the series will instantly know that's not "Solid" Snake. But Naked Snake with Solid Snakes body.. super goofy.
It's cool to watch people's first viewings of my fav death battles!
Snake. He's a legend. 😊
A simple summary for this fight a Super soldier with cybernetics upgrades against a Normal human spy who has never fought anyone like Snake
I have been waiting for you to React to this one, this is one DEATH BATTLE’s better …Death Battles.
Say, have you done Raiden vs Wolverine yet?
YES YOU GUYS FINALLY WATCHED !!!!
Btw the screaming 3 times snake is referance to snake dying in game then someone screaming
Man this battle was nuts and awesome 😄 seems crazy that I been thinking to play both games when I was younger but never gotten around it since the rating for games was too violent for my parents to get me. Till now I might order both games for my GameCube or PlayStation to play.
It wouldn't be one of your reactions without Bethany judging a character based on some inconsequential thing the player chose to do.
Love you guys.
Yeah, anything out of stealth Sam becomes screwed. We’re talking about a man who fights psychics, cyborgs, entire governments, supersoldiers, and mechs on a yearly basis.
Snake wins not because of gadgets or assists, but through sheer willpower to do whatever needs to be done...
To this day, I still think this is the best Death Battle episode! Everything is just so great about it!
Noone tell them that snake kills dogs in packs with assault weapons.
Solid Snake to Raiden: "I am not exaggarating when I say that the success of this mission hinges on how you use that cardboard box!"
Naked Snake (Later named Big Boss) to SIGINT: "You should come inside the box, then you'll know what I mean."
Sigint: "Man, I don't wanna know what you mean!"
The cardboard box is ICONIC for ALL Metal Gear games!
Lol it's ironic, if sam just waited afew years snake would of just died due to the advanced aging.. kinda like that one boss is MGS3.
Ocelots are proud creatures, they prefer to hunt alone.
Solid is a genetically engineered version of the greatest soldier of all time - It's a lock for a win.
If you liked the fight choreography for this I hope you check out their Red Hood vs Winter Soldier one, it's so well done.
They did it i been waiting im months late but they did it
As someone who has played both series alot and is a bigger fan of Snake overall, I would still put my money on Sam.
Oh this is a good one. Definitely a top five DBs of mines. Great reaction
20:23 “it’s not over yet”
So the only reason she picked Snake is because Sam took out the dogs he had no choice if those dogs would have seen him they would have attacked him an alert more enemies not all dogs are friendly 💯💯💯💯
The choreography is amazing
top 3 fav DB and is one of the older ones if the visuals didn't give that away
Sam Fischer never had a chance. Especially in CQC. Solid Snake is just the best soldier ever.😄 Top 3 video game character for me for sure.👌🏻
Didn't even have to watch the video before giving this one a like. My favorite death battle by a good margin
Metal Gear is dope! You should definitely find a way to play it or watch a short "movie" of it
You put those in the wrong spot, watch a "short" movie of it. There we go. There are more house of cutscenes in mgs than there are hours of gameplay in most AAA fps titles
@@hf117j oh I know, I was just too lazy to "correct" it
Damn poor Sam, I was with Ken on picking him. Another phenomenal episode. Stay amazing
Bethany is so cute when she's so invested 😘
I love that bethany is confident in snake, seeing that he's capable of CQC. My guy came through in the end.
Worth Mentioning but Ubisoft themself the company that owns Sam Fisher paid respect to Solid Snake ..just search in UA-cam both of these characters interacted with Sam praising Snake
Yeah if snake has lost this they would have gotten old-school slipper to the cheeks. As much as I love Sam there's no way he's winning against snake
I've never been mad at these I find these videos entertaining and fun, however the only reason this one was the exception is because Snake received outside help as opposed to relying on his own capabilities and instincts.
Sam had outside help to snakes was just superior
@@TbA500N I don't think either one should have outside help especially since in the games you rarely get outside help as Sam.
Snake doesn't need outside help to beat Sam, honestly.
20:43 lol that's what liquid said..
Ooooo. Trunks vs Silver the Hedgehog. Dragon Ball vs Sonic the Hedgehog. The battle of time travelers.
In honor of Snake's victory lets play a little game, Can you guess which one of these isn't a real Metal Gear quote
A."Forget Pax Americana. Say hello to Pax Hamburgana"
B."Wipe this Meme from the face of the earth"
C."Remember to dampen the recoil when using an automatic"
D"Now there's a pretty meme, exquisite"
I'm pretty sure those are all real, or if not, then C.
@@AwesomeNinjaXD Correct everyone knows that you should only try to dampen the recoil when using a revolver
Don't tell Bethany what snake has done to several other animals.
I don't know if y'all have reacted to the scarlet witch vs zatanna one but you should if you haven't
Don't forget you already seen Sam fisher in rainbow six siege older aka Zero
I was willing to join the bet for snake and add 1000 monopoly dollars on snake and i knew he was gonna win i know about metal gear story and lore and snake is ridiculously powerful and skilled add to that the fact he was in smash bros twice and battled monsters from the monster hunter world and even the monkeys from ape escape so he has more experience with unknown and odd enemies. Plus the dude battles metal gears those things are literally nuke launchers with legs
