  • What’s happening in this movie clip?
Marty (Michael J. Fox) knocks on Doc’s (Christopher Lloyd) door and tries to convince him that he is from the future. Doc tries to read Marty’s mind with a giant head-mounted mind-reader. Marty tries to prove that he’s from the future by showing him his driver’s license, a photo of him and his family, and telling him that Ronald Reagan will be the president of the United States in 1985. Doc doesn’t believe it still. So Marty explains how Doc got the idea for the flux capacitor and got the bruise on his head. Marty shows Doc the time-traveling machine and that the flux-capacitor works.

It is a reasonable question. What reason would doc have to believe that an actor became the president, as opposed to an actual politician? Like, this is in the 50’s, mega corporations don’t exist yet, and people preferred to have experience in the Capitol

    • @sirxanthor

@@thelastarcadegamer6655 um, mega corporations did in fact exist. Many are now closed down today because what they sold were highly cancerous and deadly. @Edward Elrich Torture in the old days was not always to get the truth. It was to force people to take guilty verdicts despite being innocent, for political reasons. North Korea is on the top of my list, including Guitimno Bay. Just about every human being will say they are guilty to not just stop being tortured, but to protect family as well. The Nazis for example would torture children in front of parents to force a guilty verdict. History have a long line of torture techniques which would make the hardest of people cringe in fear. The most scary torture device I have ever seen which sends chills down my spine is the Brazen Bull. Several years ago BBC made a very well done replica for the TV series Atlantis. Not to be confused with SG Atlantis. The princess was being thrown into one on a season finale. Almost cried when the show announced it was canceled, but they did show the remaining episodes. Very good show, sadly not advertised correctly so got canceled.

I’ve been wanting a 2 good trilogies told from 2 different perspectives of 2 different characters from the same story for a while now. For example, we get a trilogy with whoever the main protagonist is, and the main antagonist of the story gets his own trilogy only except we go back to the beginning and tell the story all over again, except this time it’s the main antagonists perspective and they in turn become the protagonist and the protagonist from the previous trilogy becomes the antagonist. I don’t mean they necessarily change from being a hero to a villain or a villain to a hero, it’s just their position in the story. Them switching from a hero to a villain or a villain to a hero all depends on the trilogy and depends on the perspective of the protagonist of their respective trilogy. Seeing a separate trilogy, but the same story, with the perspective of the secondary protagonist like how you said seems pretty interesting too though.

He also wouldn’t have asked that question to Marty since he was from the year 1985 and wouldn’t have the foggiest idea who was president in 2019. Plus why would Dwayne the rock Johnson be Vice President when he and Jennifer Lopez aren’t conservatives or republicans. They could be rhinos like most republicans now a days.

    • @jedsithor
      @jedsithor 2 роки тому +36

In filmmaking circles it's considered to be the perfect script because even apart from the overall structure and flow of the film, which is spectacular, everything, whether a big plot point or a tiny little gag, is paid off. Every setup, every premise as a resolution.
The perfect example is that Marty meets Doc at Two Pines Mall. When Marty goes back in time, he knocks over a pine tree. At the end of the movie, when he goes back to the future (roll credits) the sign for the mall now says "Lone Pine Mall" because Marty knocked over one of the pine trees in the past.
Every single gag in the movie has a payoff, even things you wouldn't notice the first time you watch it through. Every action, every line of dialogue, every incidental piece of background information has a payoff in some form.

Except his mind reader works, lol. He just doesn't know that it worked. He read Marty's surface thoughts. He came from a long distance, he was reading the evening post when he arrived in '55, and was mistaken as a member of the coast guard by the lady who was collecting donations to fix the clock tower in '85.

A lot of famous scientists failed until they succeeded (and they end up famous in the history books because they succeeded). A lot of famous people in a lot of professions failed until they succeeded and became famous (Lincoln failed many times running for higher office having been elected as a US House Representative just once, and then he finally got elected President even though his name was not even in the ballot in almost half of the states [in the South], which is insane).

He had to have, otherwise Marty wouldn´t have been able to travel back in the first place. Then again that´s a separate timeline from what we´re witnessing here. In this timeline he got boosted few levels up on this issue as soon as he had first had the revelation.
Alternative theory would be that Doc had the revelation but never figured it out before giving up on it no matter how many times the gods reset the simulation back to this point. The gods persisted however that this time machine would come into existence through a human that "invented" it so they faked a replacement Doc into timeline in 1985 with this time machine all working and good with the message to Doc to be delivered by Marty to work this time machine thing through right.

Doc: "Ok, Future Boy. Who's president of the United States in 2010?"
    Marty: "Barack Obama"
The guy who works at the diner: "A colored president. That'll be the day!"

I like the continuity of this movie, at first when you see the photo, you can see his brothers hair is gone, but later he asks to see the photo of his brother again and his head is gone

Fox was also good as Marty (crazy that they first went with Eric). Wilson and Thompson were also great in supporting cast.

I only just realized Ronald Reagan was nearly a centenarian, passing in 2004. So much so that this scene is very possible. He was already an actor in the 30s and became president in 1981.

It's such a good scene when you realize he was just some random stranger to him to test his mind reading thing on.

    The title read like,
    “Who’s President in 2019?”

I was eight years old, I was pretending to invent something really special, just like Doc Brown. When it wouldn't work, I cried, "This damn thing doesn't work at all!" My Dad called out to me, "Hey! Watch your language in there!"
I apologized and continued on, and when my device finally worked, I got excited and went, "Holy shit!" "Hey! I said watch your language," reminded my Dad. Good times!

If you notice in Docs diagram of the Flux Capacitor he calls it a Flux Compressor, so I have now decided that the name Flux Capacitor is a bootstrap paradox because he heard Marty saying it and thought it was a better sounding name but Marty only knows it because Doc told him in 1985 who again only knows it because Marty told him in 1955. Bootstrap paradox-

Can you imagine how does it feel someone arrives telling you, that one of your ideas mapped out in your Early years... Actually works?
