..I just turned 62 and been riding and owned several bikes since '87. Bought my 650 in 2018 because I wanted something tame enough to ride through the city. My mountain cruiser is my 2016 ZX14R. The 650 is not a race bike but the most comfortable and reliable replica out there. 0-60 in about 3.8 secs / 1/4 mile in about 12.5 secs at 112 mph / top speed 130 / 52 - 55 mpg and low insurance because it's a 2 cyl with about 69 hp. So it's good for a beginner or old head like me !
wow 62? nice!! how much is insurance ? I know it's diferent for every rider and what options you choose but approx.? how much for a year $400? more or less?
@@Voltomess..about $190 a yr for the winter and summer, not 1/2 a yr.

Started on the 650 then moved to the ZX6R. My reason was for the more committed riding position. The 650 was a great bike and really easy to learn on
I know you commented 7 months ago, but I’ve had my 650 for a month (first bike) I absolutely loved it. I sat on a few before it and I knew it was the right bike for me to start with. I eventually want a ZX6R as well. How are you liking yours?
@@Maysendit I absolutely love it. It’s much faster than the 650 but the power is very linear and easy to use through the whole rev range. The biggest difference I notice is the brakes are so much more sensitive but you’ll get used to it. And it’s very comfortable to ride. I’ve done 2 hours and been fine. You stop anyway for gas so stretch when you stop.
Cool bike. Good tip about always being ready for bad drivers or the unexpected. For those who have discipline to not go too fast for the road situation, the Ninja 650 is an excellent bike for any rider who enjoys an agile, comfortable, fuel efficient (4.0 gallon tank can go 200+ miles) parallel twin that can go 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds, and a top speed of 127+ mph. Great going up hills and fast passing on the freeway too. Enjoy the ride!
Very well said and the 0 to 60 time is about the same as the ZX-6R.
I currently have the Ninja650-best bike I've ever owned but I don't think of it as a 'starter bike'-I started out on a super lightweight 125cc as a teenager (having never ridden a motorcycle before) then a year later after learning all the basics I bumped it up to a 500cc Kawasaki.

I would say that it's a great beginner bike. Got one this year and it's my first bike. Enough power, but not enough to scare you and it's comfortable to ride.
I started on the 650 as long as you understand throttle control, clutch control and discipline while driving you should be fine
I have just bought a 2015 model (in the UK, they're called ER-6F), and coming from 3 and a half years on a 125cc bike, I find mynew (to me) Kawasaki to be the startship Enterprise in comparison 😂, But I love it, and am more than happy with the power on the road, in fact i honestly cant see me needing more power in the foreseeable future! Maybe ill think differently in a couple years, but for now, im loving power. Thanks for the video dude. 👍
Just got my 2020 Ninja 650 KRT this month. Its my first motorcycle. So far i love it, it is a amazing bike.
Just got my ninja 400 2 weeks ago and you know why I’m here. Kinda regretting now and wish I could’ve gone this route instead. I still love my 400 but after 2 weeks of riding, i feel the lack of power already. And it’s also my first bike
Yea, 45 hp at 10,000rpm sounds like it would get boring quick. 68 hp isn't alot either, but with the 47 ftlb of torque with a bike that weighs 426 lbs ready to ride, it has good exceleration. Especially for a beginner. Are you financing the 400, or did you fully pay for it?

I'm 70 yrs old and I have a Kawasaki z 400 and i love it. Top speed is 105 so far. Still working on adding TST velocity stacks,air box mod. Perfect for around town. But I'm going to get a Kawasaki 650 for travel. Great price, good milage, & insurance cheap.

@@Voltomess .. a sport bike or sport tourer is one thing. A double RR or super sport (ZX6R - GSX R - CBR RR - R1,R6, - ZX4 RR)..that's another thing. All track/race bikes ! and uncomfortable for street riding. Although, because ppl can afford them and they are street legal, they buy them. But at my age I need something comfortable. Ninja 650 / Honda CBR 650 / Yanaha R7 / and plenty others out there.

ninja z650 is the learning bike in most motorschools in my country.
For your exam on the road to get your license, you need to be riding with ATLEAST a 50kW.
You also need to consider the new rider's weight and/or size. If your over 6 foot and over 200lbs you probably need a bigger motorcycle to start I would think

It depends on what you are looking for. If you want a calm but still powerful bike, ninja 650 would be a great choice.
If you want more of a speed and fun, go for one of the inline 4 engine bikes
I think I need to personally ride this thing to see the difference between this and the 400. Many are saying that the specs of this bike is only different from the 400 on paper but not in the experience. Have you ridden the 400 before?
No, I have not. This is my first bike. I've heard that a 300 to 400 would be fun for 2 weeks, maybe. I've also heard anything over 400cc for a starter is too much. This bike is like the perfect balance between the two.

@@irontitancycles ..if you do get the Ninja 650, you'll love it based on riding it for what it was meant for (SPORTY RIDING, not racing). Practically no car out there can touch it but obviously there are a few better bikes out there and many faster one's. But that's what the ZX6r is for 💪

I would definitely recommend taking a basic riding course before getting a motorcycle. It will help you learn the basics of a motorcycle and how they operate and you can get an endorsement which will help with insurance.

It's not hard to get a spot. It depends on where you live and who offers the class. I took mine through harley davidson because they are the only one who offered it in my area. Yes, the endorsement is valid for life.
Supersport bikes are psychopaths...LOL...I don't have that bad of a need for speed and I'm looking for a first bike. I'm on the fence between the Ninja 500 or 650 vs. CBR500R...the CBR650R is an inline 4 and I just found out that Honda isn't selling the CBR650R in the U.S. for 2024 so that's out the window. It'll be a Ninja 650 if I conjure up the balls...otherwise it'll be a 500 depending on what's available
I would definitely start with something you feel comfortable with. If you feel 650 is too much, then dont go with it. Don't start with a motorcycle your scared to ride or you'll find your never want to ride.
biggest thing is learning to trail brake work the friction zone and turn your head where you want to go. i started never have ridden a motorcycle ever only watch motojitsu, dandanthefireman etc. hopped on a vulcan s and rode it about a 67 mile ride home. i wouldnt recommend to do that. but the 650 is very docile if you arent whiskey throttling the shit out of it and you respect the time in the friction zone. the weight is the big perk the lighter the bike the more forgiving it is along with seat height and your leg length. best thing i can think of is take the course if you can if not the ninja 400 or 650 is fine just crash bar that thing up to protect it and practice low speed drills starting stopping turns full lock u turns then figure 8 as you get it down later just working the friction zone in a straight line while riding the rear brake is great and seeing how slow you can creep forwards stayin in control all those things are where riding a motorcycle matters higher speeds is mostly is counter steering body position and scanning for threats. not long into riding jumped to to 600 pound cruisers ad newest was the low rider st 1920cc 730 ish pounds. im also looking to go to a ninja 650 as im moving to southern Utah and the curvy roads and higher highway speeds make a ninja make more sense vs a sportster

It does. The only concern I have is the life of the battery. For me it only last 2 to 3 hours at most.

Yea with 47 lbs of torque. So the mid range acceleration is not bad for a bike that weighs 423lbs ready to ride.
How much do you pay at gas station for a full tank and how many files can you ride on a full tank? How much do you pay for insurance? I want to get into bikes 🏍️
Depends on how low I let my tank get before getting gas, but usually around the $12 mark and that's with premium gas. I do not recommend getting the lower end gas for a bike. I'm getting around 55 to 56 mpg with a 4 gallon tank, so over 200 miles before needing to get gas. I'm through progressive insurance, and I'm paying $58 a month on insurance. I would definitely get a bike. They are worth it!

With regular freeway, highway, city and backroad average riding, the fuel light blinks at 150 miles, but I go an extra 50 to reach 200 miles from filling up to the filler neck of the 4.0 gallon tank, and still have .2 gallons to spare most times. Which is great IMO for long rides. For insurance after fully paid, $200 bucks or less for a full year depending on your location, Motorcycle Safety Course and more experience too.
In the GTA (Ontario ,Canada) on my 2023 650 with gas prices sitting at about $1.69 (regular) and about $1.98 (premium) - which premium is what you should be using - my tank takes about $18-20 to fill depending on how low I let it get (if the fuel light is on or if I still have a full bar). For reference, I put somewhere between 400-500km on the bike this long weekend and filled up 2x. - mostly country backroad driving with a bit of highway driving. - call and ask insurance companies for quotes call as many companies as you can think of and get quotes on all the bikes you’re considering. Some companies prices will be drastically different than others, and your age, your lisence (m1, vs m2, vs M) plus if you’ve taken a motorcycle safety course can all impact your price as well. If you’re under 25 and in the same area I live, expect no less than 1- 1.5k per year, up to 8.7k per year depending on the coverage you want, and the provider. Im 26, at 25 when I got the bike, TD quoted me 8,649 per year. I laughed and hung up. I paid 1,075 (prorated as I bought the bike in June so I missed early spring riding) the same coverage with another company. If you want to get into bikes, videos like these and research are a great place to start.

Low Octane fuel 87 for the US Ninja 650 '21, according to the manual (available to download on kawasaki's website), to prevent engine damage and knocking, it said (linked to the lower engine fuel compression). I use the 87 grade and the bike runs perfect in the US, but it might be a different situation in Canada and the 650 model there.
@@BlackArroToons yeah the Canadian manual says to use “clean, fresh unleaded gas with antiknock index of 87 or more, and up to 10% ethanol”. My kawi dealer said to use premium because here the 94 octane is 10% ethanol and 90% unleaded the bike will run smoother, and that The minimum fuel based on the manual is 87, so technically I could use it, but wouldn’t want to use anything lower, and would be using it knowing the % of ethanol to unleaded gas would be different. The dealer said the key term in the manual is the “ 87 or more” meaning the 87 is the minimum that should be used and that the premium would run smoother and not burn quite as quickly as the 87.
