We live semi off grid in the Idaho Mountains and for the past 4 years have had very limited data at 5 dollars a gig. Over the last 4 years we have been recording our adventure and putting it on youtube. Over the last couple of years we would get a lot of comments like "I seen something like that on Wranglerstars channel or Wranglerstar did this. We had no idea who or what they were talking about. LoL...NOW We FINALLY have Unlimited Data up here and get to find out who Wranglerstar is ! Great Video's my New Friend !
Anyone else think Cody should film Brian customizing Cody's axe? i love the work Cody does, but it would also be cool to hear Brian's philosophy on axe customization and watch him work.
Craig Mooring I was also responding to the original poster, I too agree that a video of the axe upgrade/mod is a great idea but a give away is unnecessary.
Craig Mooring not saying I wouldn't want to win that axe. Cody if you're reading this, a Brian customized carpenter axe give away wouldn't make any of us mad :)
After seeing this, I gone out and bought a $10 axe, I made sure to buy the best built unit of that model, after that I went home and touched it like Brian pointed, made it from a dull, meh axe into a $50 axe, I noticed that it holds an edge very good. The steed is the most important aspect of the axe, you can always rehandle it. Now it is a pleasure every time I use it, I take care of it, oil the handle, sharpen it, I love it.
Hey, Brian. Good to see you. When I saw the title, I was wondering if you were going to talk about a Bacho, or God forbid, a Fiskars. "How to transform your Bacho into a good axe: 1. Remove the head from the handle. Set the handle aside. 2. Get a new handle with proper grain orientation. 3. Before hanging the axe head on the new handle, get a new axe head made of quality steel. 4. Hang new axe head on new handle."
Rasps are very underrated tools, especially hand made rasps. The slightly irregular hand cut teeth make a nice coherent surface while machine cut teeth are too regular and can groove your workpiece.
I recently bought a cheapo $15 handle for an old gransfors that I restored. it was a nice piece of wood but I've seen a better finish on toothpicks, so I sanded the varnish off, rounded the pommel and took it down to 500grit then I gave it some boiled linseed and fit it to my axe head for a stunning finish that would have cost me over $100 otherwise. It pays to put a little love into your tools.
Brian, awesome job!! it is so nice to see someone make a tool better, instead of just sending it back to the company and complaining about the way it is made. Maybe they will see the video and make changes to the axe at the factory. I may just get one for myself and make the changes too. Geoff
im 26 now from new zealand ive been wanting one of these axes since you first uploaded this video and im now finally able to aford one and picked it up today speciel ordor from the store, $145 NZD
I did the same thing to mine except for the handle, I will have to profile it similarly. Also been thinking about relieving a little of the underside of the blade to lighten things up. When I ordered the axe I ordered 4, kept the best one and returned the the rest. To say QC is poor is being really kind. One had a handle with so much runout, checking and roughness that it looked like weathered oak firewood. Another had a turned bit that was about a 1/4 inch off center.
I just got the husqvarna forest axe the head is nicely hung grain orientation is excellent just had to sand the varnish off and oil the handle(learned that here) and a little work on the edge I am quite pleased with it. Thank you Cody for bringing this affordable axe to our attention.
I got my Carpenters axe, today. I was not impressed with the handle, and the sheath. I put a sheath that I made on it and refinished the handle. It was sharp right out of the box but I sharpened the Husqvarna with my oil stones for about 15 minutes and put a mirror shine on the axe. I stayed with the convex grind instead if using a shallower angle edge. I sanded the handle with my orbital sander and then hand sanded it before soaking it good with linseed oil. I will put a leather handle protector on the handle after I get a few more coats of linseed oil on it. I am very pleased with it and I really do not see a reason to do a whole lot more to it. If it ain’t broke, I do not fix it. I very seldom use an axe for carpentry stuff. I have pleanty of power tools and a good BFH. I bought it as a less expensive substitute for a grans fors Small Forest Axe, pure and simple
Axe Nerds unite everywhere. We have another brother. Will Brian start his own channel now? WE need to See the "how to grind" and hang the handle from Brian.
I would love to see a video on this, I'm sure cody wouldn't mind his being the subject matter, I think alot of us are buying these cheaper axes and trying to get them to rival the more expensive options
I LOVED this video so much for some reason. I think I really like explanations of ergonomics, and also it was cool to have a back and forth conversation going on between to knowledgeable people!
Finally a axe video which was honest! (All though you did use the phrase "should have been done at the factory") A fairly well made, with good steel axe for under $60 is a steal! So the handle is to thick, well I can make a big handle smaller easier than make a small handle bigger! You said it correctly that a few hours work and you have a axe better than a three times the price axe. And you made it fit you the way you want it instead of the way the factory decided it should fit you. Good job guys!!!!!
Nice to meet you, Brian. I would also like to see a video on how he did the customization on his axe, specifically the head. Keep up the good work boys!!!!!!
Mr wranglerstar did you see skillcult testing Husqvarna axe must see. What he says about the handle and his take on it so out of the box... Brain great work on the axe!!!! i think Brain is awesome and a real win for this channel....
Totally awesome AXE Yes Brian is a smart guy very talented blessed to be with Mr. wrangler ⭐️ and vis- versa ☝️👏Thank you for sharing the difference between Quality versus ordinary. Have a blessed day with Mrs. W.⭐️And Jack today 🙏🏡😍🇺🇸
Cody I have noticed that when you result to using titles that loosely explain the video or a part of the video, everyone complains about clickbait. When I see on larger channels that are 100% pure clickbait the comments are mostly "Awe (name) I want to thank you for never clickbaiting."
Great video. I do this w/ many of my tools. Most of the time i just dont recommend breaking the bank if you have the skills to spend less & bring it up to snuff yourself.
I have this axe myself and “pimped” mine similarly. Have you considered adding a few inches when rehanging with the weight and shape of this axe as I have? I feel like it would make a fantastic small ax with real two handed capabilities.
I've got big hands and my fingers never come close to touching my palm. I've completed the bit but the handle is terrible. For now. I planned on shaving it down tonight. I did my Forrest axe and its amazing.
Thanks for the tips. I’m setting aside a few hours for my axe this weekend. On a related note. There’s a reason that all Snap On body hammers are so comfortable and much easier to control: octagonal handles.
The Husqvarna hatchet will be coming in the mail on Tuesday. This will be my first hatchet, and I'll be using it mainly for firewood, but learning a few bushcraft techniques and projects in the future. I've never owned a hatchet before. What are some ways I could improve it? Whether the handle or the grind of the axe head itself, how can I improve it from the factory to better perform the tasks?
I just got one of those. I think I will do a similar mod but instead of a rasp I think I'll use my Dremel knock off (Craftsman) for the octagonal shape.

so your cell company finally gave in and gave the people what they wanted
Hello from Mullan Idaho!
Another terrific video! Thanks for the tips!
Project Farm 😂😂🙄🤥
Brian is very well spoken on camera . Would like to see more of him.
You two have a great dynamic. Keep it up. Very engaging to see you two interact.
Anyone else think Cody should film Brian customizing Cody's axe? i love the work Cody does, but it would also be cool to hear Brian's philosophy on axe customization and watch him work.
thought the same. would be a great give away item.
Absolutely, first thing that came to mind!
Craig Mooring , no I do not want Cody to give away his axe. I want Cody to have his axe be updated. and I want to watch the video.
Craig Mooring I was also responding to the original poster, I too agree that a video of the axe upgrade/mod is a great idea but a give away is unnecessary.

yup
Brian is a great addition! Looking forward to more conversations between you guys!
Nice to meet Brian! I can tell you are enjoying having him around and I'm sure we will too. Tell Mrs. W. And Jack hello! Cathy Wv.
Hey, Brian. Good to see you.

Just fire up the forge and make your own. That way you could make all the adjustments to make it right the first time.
You forgot to include mining the ore, smelting, and adding the proper allowing elements.
lol
Rasps are very underrated tools, especially hand made rasps. The slightly irregular hand cut teeth make a nice coherent surface while machine cut teeth are too regular and can groove your workpiece.
Wow Brian is here nice meeting you finally. You can learn alot from Cody he is a smart man good luck you two. God Bless Pete USMC
This looks like a good project for a rainy day.

One of my favorite wranglerstar videos! I've watched it, im sure, a dozen times. Thanks guys!
I bought one here in Alberta Canada ,for 69 bucks and reworked it almost the same as yours..
I really like it now..
Brian, awesome job!! it is so nice to see someone make a tool better, instead of just sending it back to the company and complaining about the way it is made. Maybe they will see the video and make changes to the axe at the factory. I may just get one for myself and make the changes too. Geoff
"I've got small hands for a guy...."
Cody "ya..."
😂😂😂😂
I really thought it would be like steps 1-5 all the mods you've done. I'm not ready for this level of commitment
A video about the origins of Brian would be pretty interesting.
NIce job with the axe mods Brian, you're a natural on camera, cool duo with Cody.
More of the tag team videos. This was fun and interesting to watch.
I really like this Blacksmithy Brian tilt/direction we are taking!
im 26 now from new zealand ive been wanting one of these axes since you first uploaded this video and im now finally able to aford one and picked it up today speciel ordor from the store, $145 NZD

Brian is a good fit for the homestead. A great addition to the channel!

I'm a fan of brian already
I have had that same axe for a few years now and love it. I also had to dress mine up a bit but that's what I was expecting after reading reviews.
Brian did a great job on his 1st big video part. I love the way Cody kept adjusting his stance to be completely in shot lol. TkEZ» UK.xx
Brian adds to the channel, addition is a good thing.
Cody would you be able to do a video on your buildings? i am interested in your barn you are standing in in this video.
I would love to see a video on this, I'm sure cody wouldn't mind his being the subject matter, I think alot of us are buying these cheaper axes and trying to get them to rival the more expensive options
Nice to hear from Brian finally.
The Gränsfors Bruks Small Forest Axe is only 80 dollars here in Switzerland 😎
How much to ship one to Indiana? Lol
Really? Where can I get it for that price? I'd love to get one but all I found was really expensive!
Lucky lucky lucky lucky lucky lucky lucky
Well .. this is a carpenters axe 👍
yeah, but with all of the VAT tax you guys pay in the EU, it all comes out in the wash, as they say
I LOVED this video so much for some reason. I think I really like explanations of ergonomics, and also it was cool to have a back and forth conversation going on between to knowledgeable people!
Brian is awesome on camera....You gotta include him more often :)
glad to see brian is stepping into the videos. i think he works well with you cody.
Really nice job, working on the handle especially for a better grip makes a lot of sense - good stuff fellas
Finally a axe video which was honest! (All though you did use the phrase "should have been done at the factory") A fairly well made, with good steel axe for under $60 is a steal! Can you do a video making these improvements to Mr. W's axe???
What a great upgrade to your handle, the ax looks great too, but man I love that handle.
love Bryan as apart of the team
Nice work Brian! Cody has axe jealousy, now he knows how we feel hahah
Lol... Exactly... 😂
Yay! Brian! Great work. Time to make a bow!!!
Great job on the axe, Brian! Very cool video.
Brian seems cool, good upgrades to that axe
It’s been a long time since I’ve watched one of your axe videos and I really enjoyed this one. Learned lots of information. Thanks.
good to finally see you on camera Brian. keep up the good work guys!
Back here 7 years later. Now the Husqvarna costs $100 and a Gransfors is $225.
Hey Cody I love you video's keep up the good work, and great to finally meet Brian
I almost bought one but I ended up getting one of those Spanish axes you reviewed last year. And I love it!
Nice to meet you, Brian. I would also like to see a video on how he did the customization on his axe, specifically the head. Keep up the good work boys!!!!!!
Brian seems like a cool guy
Brian, You're a Rock Star!
True Axe Geeks... Love it
Indeed!
Jaffa kree!
Mr wranglerstar did you see skillcult testing Husqvarna axe must see. What he says about the handle and his take on it so out of the box... Brain great work on the axe!!!! i think Brain is awesome and a real win for this channel....
aaahh.. finally, the illusive brian.
its.......
MPLOB?
The Axe turned out Great Brian
Totally awesome AXE Yes Brian is a smart guy very talented blessed to be with Mr. wrangler ⭐️ and vis- versa ☝️👏Thank you for sharing the difference between Quality versus ordinary. Have a blessed day with Mrs. W.⭐️And Jack today 🙏🏡😍🇺🇸
Time 2:42 that's what she said
Should bring Brian into more videos. He's really comfortable in camera.
Hello Brian, welcome to the family. Now, what was it you used to reshape the cutting edge?
It appears from this conversation that Brian is as in tune with attention to detail as Cody is. A match made in Heaven!
Bubble guide for grinding? What is this sorcery?
That's what I was wondering. I even checked the videos description encase it was listed what the name was or where I could purchase it at.
Cody I have noticed that when you result to using titles that loosely explain the video or a part of the video, everyone complains about clickbait. When I see on larger channels that are 100% pure clickbait the comments are mostly "Awe (name) I want to thank you for never clickbaiting."
I think he's given in to the fact that people will complain about anything.
Awesome job Brian.
A guy that does timber cutting in moccasins knows what's going on.
Brian can make a fire by rubbing 2 ice cubes together.
Love this video so much guys thank you ! I have this axe and love it, would you show us a video of redoing the handle with a rasp please?
Great video. I do this w/ many of my tools. Most of the time i just dont recommend breaking the bank if you have the skills to spend less & bring it up to snuff yourself.
Nice video guys! welcome to the channel Brian!
Very cool segment! Both quality axes!
Great ideas, worth trying on my own, and easy to do. Thanks for the tips, appreciated.
Chuck Norris is working for Wranglerstar?
Tenspeed TheBikeHanger OMG!!!! I thought the same the thing. Brian can make a fire by rubbing 2 ice cubes together. Lol!!!!
Brian can't work on Thursdays and Fridays. He runs (literally) down to Texas to give Chuck his man lessons.
Tenspeed TheBikeHanger Brian doesn't cut down trees he makes them cut themselves.
The axe is just for show, Brian chops trees down with his bare hands.
Brian once shot down an enemy plane by simply pointing his finger at it and saying "Bang"!
Hi Mr W
Great to meet Brian looks and sounds like been around wood crafts a lot
Doug
I've also heard the two finger rule. The width of a comfortable handle should be the width of your pointer and middle finger plus a quarter inch.
Can you make a video on ALL the different uses and styles of axes??
I have this axe myself and “pimped” mine similarly. Have you considered adding a few inches when rehanging with the weight and shape of this axe as I have? I feel like it would make a fantastic small ax with real two handed capabilities.
Thanks for the ax education
I've got big hands and my fingers never come close to touching my palm. I've completed the bit but the handle is terrible. For now. I planned on shaving it down tonight. I did my Forrest axe and its amazing.
Nice music! A lot of good info there. Thanks.
Nice work Brian. I'm enjoying your input. Long may it continue.
Yours too Cody, obviously ;)
Improved ergonomics is always an the way to go.
A little disappointed that I don't really have the gear or skills to do this, the start of the video got me excited.
Thanks for the tips. I’m setting aside a few hours for my axe this weekend.
On a related note. There’s a reason that all Snap On body hammers are so comfortable and much easier to control: octagonal handles.
your new play mate will be a good addition nice fella. good vid guys
Love your videos... always inspiring to see that the simple pleasures in life have the deepest impact on our happiness. Keep up the good work!!!!
Oh and we are doing great on the other coast.... tv.jw.org/#en/mediaitems/VODActivitiesConstruction/docid-502016529_1_VIDEO
very nice that looks way better. I think Brian was getting nervous with cody fondling his axe.. lol
Very interesting video. I always learn something when I watch one of your videos. Thank you :)
Very well spoken.
Been loving your music selection lately!
The Husqvarna hatchet will be coming in the mail on Tuesday. This will be my first hatchet, and I'll be using it mainly for firewood, but learning a few bushcraft techniques and projects in the future. I've never owned a hatchet before. You do great work Cody. I especially enjoy your timber framing series that your producing. Keep up all your hard work. God bless.
I did a video series showing how to transform one of these about 6 months back. great axes
Thanks for the Video Cody!
Great video Wranglerstar and Brian, love the content, keep up the good work!
