At 18:30, when you have the engine revving, there is a small sticker on a line that looks like it has air pushing it. The air appears to blow the sticker harder as revs increase. I don't think there are any lines that should be putting air in that area, and the fan wouldn't cause air to blow in relation to engine revs like that, and vibration generally wouldn't cause a sticker to vibrate in a way that it looks like air is blowing it.
I see a white label vowing as you mentioned👍
I saw that as well
Same it could be a crack cover
I saw that as well
That’s the same thing I saw. If it runs perfectly then it’s just an exhaust leak or something very simple that doesn’t affect its performance.
You should actually do the Kia boys trick with this, only drive it with a USB cable for a key 😛
Omg 😂
That’s funny😂😂
😂😂😂😂
Fr drive all crazy 😜
YES great idea I want to see that trick in action
Catalyst converter 100 percent. Remove upstream sensor and I bet the noise is gone. Sounds like the cat is plugging up.
Hey Randy I had that same problem one time and it turned out to be loose exhaust bolts and it would only leak with enough pressure. Check out your exhaust manifold and gasket.
That was my first guess.
I think you got it, had a very similar noise on my gti, turned out to be a broken exhaust manifold stud
It sounds more like a whistle than a squeal.
Yep , bet its exhaust leak on manifold
@@richierich5470 wrong you would hear a exhaust leak not that sound
I have heard this exact thing with a bad exhaust manifold gasket or loose bolts and or cracked manifold . The air escaping between the metal exhaust gasket makes that noise as if you were blowing a blade of grass high pitched squeal. We have had this noise in our shop and was a couple of loose bolts that caused the gasket to blow out. It’s worth a shot to look into the exhaust manifold/ gasket area 😊
The cat is probably plugged causing too much back pressure in the exhaust system. You could pull the upstream oxygen sensor out and hook up a back pressure gage. The gage should be no more than 1 psi at idle. I'm going to say once you hit the gas it will peg the gage out. Have had KIa Souls that make the same noise at work.
I'm with Justin. Clogged converter pushing exhaust back thru a bad exhaust manifold gasket. Wouldn't run if the exhaust system was sealed properly. Pull the 02 sensor noise will die down..tic tic tic
Exactly! I had the same exact problem with a Hyundai Elantra gt i bought at auction. Clogged cat due to shitty oil burning Hyundai engine
Ticking like a veteran on the 4th of July. I can say that I'm a vet. Pull cat, core it with a long rod, put it back in, change exhaust gasket.
PRobaly what the CEL code is for. Cheap repair if it is -- might make a profit on this one!
Really????? Think about it it screams when you hit the gas …. Exhaust !!!! Either the cat is clogged and the back pressure is the flex pipe expanding. . Take the bank 1 o2 sensor out then start it and see if it goes away . If so it’s a bad cat . … you were over thinking this one .
Randy, look at 19:20, you can see the retaining clip is way down the brake booster vacuum hose. Put it in the right spot so it seals up. I'll bet the whistling is vacuum leaking from that hose, cause there's a lot of vaccum that runs in that hose for the booster.
Saw that too..
It could be a timing chain starting to go bad
You probably need a big mirror on the wall in front of the lift so you can see yourself driving up on the lift
Yes!
@@timcole421 LMAO
I wonder if all it is, is a blown exhaust manifold gasket. It would explain the sound if air is shooting through a torn spot on the gasket. It sounds super similar to the sound you'd make as a kid if you put a thick blade of grass between your thumbs and blow through it. Kinda the same concept too
My guess it's the torque converter. Inside the torque converter is a lock up clutch that can wear out and make that noise. That's what happened to my wife's car. After finding out how much the parts and labor would cost, we traded in the car.
Randy. My wife noticed it. There is a tag on a hose on the back of the engine driver's side. When the engine revs that tag blows in the wind. You have an exhaust leak on the back of the engine. That oxygen sensor might be loose or it blew the exhaust manifold gasket.
My guess is the underlying cause is a partially restricted converter.
@@jefnf vacuum leaks don't blow parts tags like a flag. Lean could also be exhaust getting out before the sensor.
I doubt this is the same, but worth checking. I had a Ford Escort ZX2 5 speed that made a similar sound, but it wasn't consistent like yours, it was random. Anyways, it was the crank case breather filter. It was partially clogged and it would whistle periodically. I replaced it and it never whistled again.
Sounds like a dying vacuum cleaner 😂😂
😂
Or one of them Aliens from the movies you know the one LOL
@@adamgrant1787 omg fr LOL
Lolz Sounds like he ran over an imp
Heard something similar on older Volvo once. Starter pinion gear was not disengaging the flywheel. Remove and check your starter.
Randy, my buddy had a whistle noise on a fresh rebuilt SBC. He put new valve cover gaskets and didn't add a breather cap but had the PCV system. The noise came from air rushing past the front main seal. Maybe breather blocked? Try taking oil filler cap off.
You need to put an old rectangular mirror above the ac/ heat unit on the wall so you can see the location of the car to the lift ! Then you can judge exactly where you line up in the lift !
So I had a similar issue on my Truck. It was the a leak in the seal for the manifold. Sounds it makes is similar and it would cause the sticker to on the back line to be moving. I would put a smoke machine on it to check.
I know there was a recall on some of the Kias for a crankshaft pulley. It might be worth checking it out.
Not sure if this has a turbo engine but a few years ago I had a VW Bora (Mk4 Jetta in the US) Turbo Diesel. It made a similar noise which also varied with the revs. Replaced all the pulleys, belts etc and it still did it. Eventually it went down on power and it turned out it had a big hole in the intercooler. After I replaced the intercooler it never made the noise again.
I had one of these as my driving school car and it was actually really nice, it’s cool that this one even has power folding mirrors
YES
I think it’s an exhaust leak on the back of the engine. I noticed a tag back there flapping when Jessica was reving it. Just something to check.
I would replace the oxygen sensor could have a pin hole in it, or it makes a change to other sensors I was thinking a sensor before you said that was a code since it's near back of engine that makes since.
Hi Randy sounds like the exhaust turbo clip on. Slots into rear exhaust pipe then when car revs the more air flow the more noise. Kids love it. Good luck if not this.
I had a 2017 ex I bought new with 10 miles on it and sold in 2020 with 190k on it. Still driving like a champ minus the random loss of power at times that Kia couldn’t figure out. It was a great car. It went through hell because I was an Uber driver in Atlanta and Athens Ga.
That noise had my birds going crazy 😂
No one else see the hose clamp clearly not in the right spot @ 19:18?
Do at your own risk but you can also crack open a small propane torch (without igniting it obviously) and work it around the engine to see if there’s an idle change.
Yes I saw it too - you beat me to it
Vacum hose to break servo.
I seen it to
Yes i seen it to and there was no soapy water on it.
I've used ether to look for vac leaks, but I've seen some people think it's exhaust not vacuum. It's an interesting sound for sure
Hello Randy, my cousin whos mechanic said , he thinks check engine breathing, sometimes you get whistles from dipsticks hole, check PCV valve if it has one , as the engine may have gunked up and your getting excessive pressures in the engines breathing system. hope this helps....
100% certain it's an exhaust issue. Either a leak at the manifold or a clogged catalytic convertor. I'll give you $2k for it!
The check engine light is on…what code(s) is it throwing?
The entire time you were checking for the nose i was thinking vacuum leak. Definitely try a smoke test on that
same
Hey Randy me and my buddy we had 2016 kia souls and we were having problems with clogged catalytic converters. He changed his and the car ran better. He had 81,000 miles on his when his went out and I only had 20,500 miles on mine. The GDI engines are known for really building up a lot of carbon. Also check the PCV valve on there to see if it could be clogged also. The only way you can clean the valves in that car is if you spray throttle body and air intake cleaner into the throttle body have someone rev the car to 2000 RPMs spray it in a little at a time.Injector cleaners won't do it that will only clean the injectors on these cars because the valves are above the injectors.
Randy what you can do to rule out a bent piston or piston slap is by taking one plug out at a time and rev the engine, if the sound is still there then it is not a bent piston, cheap way to check wthout paying the dealer.
Gdi is direct injection. Is it coming from the hp pump?
Your cat is plugged and the exhaust is leaking somewhere
The 2014 Kia Forte EX has the 2.0L Theta II GDI (direct injection) engine. It might be under several recalls. That engine is notorious for using oil, and if the intake isn't serviced regularly the intake valves will carbon up and leak. Check the oil for sparkles... Some Theta II engines had oil gallery issues which ends up running the main crank bearings dry - it doesn't look like yours has that issue yet because your block hasn't developed an extra port caused by a thrown rod...
I had a ram eco diesel make this exact noise it was a exhaust gasket took awhile to find.
Check around there and possibly make sure the bank 1 sensor 1 is actually tight. Could have an o2 sensor fault for an exhaust leak as it will scavenge air and give a false reading. Food for thought.
I had the same problem its a bad catalytic converter
I was thinking exhaust too
People been stealing those too
Yeah, we saw the sticker flapping in the wind 😎
Randy my sister has a 2011 cerato made exact same noises, i replaced both water pump and ac pump along with a new belt and the noise went away. We were told that the car needed a new engine so just went into forums and well it was something to do with the trottle body/intake manifold
It sounds great! Screams when pickling up RPMs!
I am so curious about what is causing the issue. It looks like a nice car. Almost can wait for the diagnosis.
Check the trans fluid, could be the torque convertor.
Might be the low blinker fluid levels causing that noise!
Hey Randy maybe you should try getting one of them mirrors that are kind of concave so you could put it up in front of your Lyft so when you're by yourself you could see your car's tires and stuff so you can line it up a lot easier I don't think they're very much and then that way you won't be driving off the edge of your Lyft?
Should just be loose manifold bolts or a clogged cat. Check both of them and if you need to tighten the bolts, do. It could fix the issue.
Also, that's a killer deal on that car. I would rock that as my daily driver and let my beautiful Tacoma sit in the driveway and just bring up my home value.
That’s not how home values work.
😭😭
Hey Randy! I hope you read this
I found your channel when i was about 13 4 years ago! You inspired me so much and loved your content! Than lodt my acc and found your channel again! Watched back all the vids and now my dad has a forte just like this! Man i dig your vids im subbed and keep up the amazing content! Dont forget me bc ill be here often! Love you man and ciao!!!
Definitely interested in you sending it to the Kia dealer or seeing you taking some of the comments' suggestions about the problem
jason C noticed the plastic flaping.. look at exhaust gasket to head delamminated or loose, or high pressure escaping the unit said was under there.?
Is that the Kia that has a motor recall?
No
Fun fact: When I was listening to the video my bird was screaming like hell because he thought the car was a other bird🤣
Check the exhaust for a backpressure drilled being a mechanic we've had to drill holes and they squeak just like that with the throttle
Randy, it's the guts in the cat. I had a 02 f150 4.2V6 sounded the same during excelleration. A bad o2 sensor caused this problem.
Sounds like a turbo whistle on the exhaust or one of the air filter intake turbine. But yeah good deal Randy - neat little car and packed full of features!
Yeah my santa fe a bad intercooler and it made the same noise. If it has a turbo that might be what it is
It sounds like a toddler screaming in a store
I had this car brand new some years ago...I had the hatchback version. Same color and everything. It had a lot of features for the price
Hey randy that noise when you were revving the engine is turbo hahaha 😂😂
Sounds like a dying dyson vacuum cleaner or a dying guinea pig
You should scan the 2014 kia I'm a micanick
at 19:19, the rubber line taking a 90 degree turn (next to the master cylinder, just on the edge of the brake booster) is plugged in, but the clamp is pulled back. It has witness marks on the rubber hose.
When ever I have a broken vcr/DVD player combo, I just use it as is, and hope it gets better over time!!!!!
Timing belt or pulley
LOL, he said like 5 times it wasn't that
@@bara7331 what he checked was the serpentine belt never check the timing belt. There’s tensioners inside where the timing belt goes on the motor. The serpentine belt is not the only belt.
@@frankwhite4908 oh ok sorry
Guarantee it's the CVT that is not an automatic transmission I'll never buy a Kia/Hyundai/Genesis complete junk
My 250,000 mile never seen a shop Genesis says different
Agree. They were junk in the 90s and they're junk today. designed to barely last 100k miles. They cost about as much as a Toyota or Honda which will last over 300k miles with proper maintenance.
According to Wikipedia, the Forte does not have a CVT. Hybrid does, but this isnt a hybrid
@@camarokurt they are not junk, I’ve own plenty of them to Know that. Honda and Toyota are more expensive and are worst quality and design. Your fucking dumb and stfu
@@camarokurt I still see Accents, Elantras, Sportages and Sephias from the 90s where I live. Not bad for "junky" cars...
I think the Kia was a very good buy for the money. As for the squealing sound my first thought was vacuum leak but i'm not 100 % sure. Great video as always 😊👍
You have a broken bolt on exhaust gallery.Same sound on my car.Difficult to repair, but works like new now.
It's a brown head gasket on one of the cylinders but the leak it's to the outside not the coolant system or the oil system. I usually find this on 6.7 Cummins where the lake is between the exhaust gasket and the turbo. Since this year does not have a turbo The only source of such pressure on pressing the throttle It's the head gasket.
Try these 2things one with car runing see how much pressure comes out the back next unbolt the exhaust start it and see if it gos away
How I've always check for vacuum leaks is take starting fluid and lightly spray it Don't spray a lot on each one but the motor will pick up an idle if it goes into it because it's got to go through the air that's how we always checked diesel truck intercoolers to make sure they didn't have cracks in them
It's hard to tell on video but could it be coming from inside the transmission? You said it was .ore that area of the engine. Maybe something around the torque converter cracked and expanding/rubbing when it turns faster?
Yeah that sounds like a bad exhaust manifold gasket, I have seen this problem Very commonly on diesel truck engines and the sound is obnoxiously similar, and you can easily tell by seeing very little carbon marks around the Exhaust manifold itself, it drove me crazy the first time I had to diagnose it the first time I heard it many years ago but once I figured it out now it's not even a question
A very good possibility is the crank pully the dampener if that is the kind of pulley with the rubber in between the metal if that becomes dried out or cracked it actually slips between the metal causing a shrieking noise just a thought
I definitely saw that tag near the firewall moving when you would Revit up and that noise was happening. It Has to be right around there.
2 things to check: 1- Is oil clogged 2- cat converter 3- stuck throttle does forte have tbi thatis very dirty and sticking??
I did happen to notice something maybe you didn't notice this. But the oil pin has a big ding in it near the water pump Is it possible that's bent up the piece of oil panchover and only when you put a load on the on the engine? It hits the squeaks against the oil pan comer
intake gasket is bad spray wd on it will probably fix up stream o2 as well.have someone rev to make noise when spraying wd .
The hose clamp on the large hose, right hand side of the engine in the back to the right of the high-pressure fuel pump. There’s a large hose and the hose clamp is moved back from where it should be.
Yeah Randy I agree with @Jason C , the air appears to blow the white sticker from the English whole revving
Hi Randy! Did you check the intake and manifold gasket? Sounds like it’s taking to much air?
Check the high pressure fuel pump on top of valve cover..the fuel pump is spring action and the lobe from the camshaft pushes against the spring on the high pressure pump the high pressure fuel goes bad on kia a lot
Hey Randy I noticed on the back of the engine on the firewall is a white piece of paper every time you rub it up that piece of paper would move
hey randy I have had a 15 kia optima where there was a very small leak in the exhaust manifold gasket and it would bring up a check engine light for a upstream 02 sensor and it would make that awful noise
Unplug your brake booster and plug the line. It could be a bad diaphragm in the booster itself. No doubt the noise is coming from the intake side. Notice the pitch increases before the engine speed?
hi i would try removing the oil cap while running if sound goes away its pcv related if its pcv it will trigger bad 02 sensor if not check timing tensioner
Very interesting! Excited to see what people say and what’ll happen!!!!
A backed out bolt on the flywheel or torque converter, if you here it on the trans side more?
It seems to be directly tied to throttle input and not engine revolutions.
Suggesting a vacuum leak is the most likely culprit.
I imagine there is a hairline fracture in the plastic intake manifold or throttle body.
Maybe the O2 sensor was improperly installed and cross threaded?
Plastic tenssioners or lifters for the timing chain .if it was the vvt solenoid it must send a code at the obd port.if you are sure its a vacuum sound then its possible the e g r system .
You need a short piece of water hose and a funnel steak the final in the water hose lay it on top of the engine and proceeded to remove the hose around until the you pinpoint where the noise is
It's a metal on metal sound, that changes with RPM? A bolt has backed out and hitting the block or something like that between the engine and trans? Doesn't sound like a vac. leak to me at all?
hey randy check on the starter, and the exhaust manifold those are probably two things to check. should be an easy fix.
I once had an O2 sensor come apart, turning what was left into a “straw”, which made a strange whistling noise. Pretty sure the noise is coming from the exhaust, weather it’s a crack, or something like that.
Haven’t finished the video yet but maybe a small pin hole on the exhaust manifold. Had it happen to my old civic years back. It sounded like a high pitched whistle and it only sounded while under load, never on just idle. Easiest fix ever just sprayed soapy water on the manifold (but has to be cold to results) and found the leak so I tacked up the hole lol.
Good video bud keep up the work
Hyundai and Kia say that many of the engine problems have to do with a faulty connecting rod bearing. The connecting rod is a vital component between the engine's piston and crankshaft, and the bearing is located between the connecting rod and the crankshaft.Dec 7, 2022
Kia Forte my family has the Cross over with the 2.4L nice cross over
bought a 2018 Hyundai sonata for $2500 off of marketplace yesterday! runs drives great ac works shifts great, it just shakes a bit for like 30 seconds at startup then goes away
Wauw what a Nice wheater Randy here in Holland its cold and of course raining
Definitely under the timing cover, I'd say it's a idler bearing bad or something on the timing chain assembly? Only way to find out is take the timing cover off, unfortunately, Randy?
That white piece of paper were referring to is on the driver side right behind the engine when you rev the engine up that paper constantly moves
The sound reminds me of my 85 camaro that had the cat brake up and when you rev It would whistle. Or the air filter Is clogged. My bet Is the cat. Nice video man.
Check the tail pipe when you are running and have someone rev It. I would bet good money It's the cat and the comb has broken inside and jammed in the case. that Is what the whistle Is coming from. Easy fix.
Hey randy i was watching the vid of the kia here sounds louder om driver side rear of engine perhaps check vaccum to the brake booster
