The music is so advanced that there are many people - mainly the ones who are addicted to the instant gratification headbanger heavy riffs all the time - who don't quite understand what Tool has communicated on this album. His final arpeggios with ring mod never fails to give me bumps. One of the best conclusions I’ve ever come across of a solo!
What Adam has been able to do with the Dm Pentatonic scale( with the occasional Em, Prison sex, Parabola)has been simply astonishing considering its been over 25 years, Page Hamilton(Helmet) called this Tuning and scale "Musical Economy"
I'd be happy if they retired actually. Fear Inoculum was their worst album and chances are they have peaked and I wouldn't want them to beat a dead horse. They had a hell of a run though.
@@mikeydfas9 because the new album was quantity over quality, there's so much needless meandering. Obviously Tool are renowned for making long songs but seriously making every song over 10 mins doesn't qualify them as good. I found myself skipping the interludes after the first listen also.
@@Erickhetfield it will be. Danny said they have over an albums worth of material left over from Fear Inoculum that they will consider making into another album once they're done touring off this one for the next 2-3 years. So basically they're content with using Fear Inoculum left overs to make another TOOL record and if so, then I reckon that spells the sharp decline of this band unfortunately.

Hi @MaxNiessl All of your Tool guitar covers helped me out so much in learning Tool songs. The way you play the songs, especially showing the tabs at the bottom along with your flawless playing makes it easy for me to learn from. Without your videos, I would not be able to learn Tool songs so easily. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I know how hard it is to learn and play these songs and keep recording until you get that perfect take. You helped me out so much. Please keep doing more Tool covers! Just yesterday I was able to upload the 7empest guitar cover in my UA-cam channel and it would not be possible if it wasn't for you. So Thank you!
Very nice song. Starts with a beautiful, captivating progression and then turns into a really beefy, old-school riff. Really unexpected when i first heard it. Entire song reminds me of Undertow, like an angrier Prison Sex.
This is all ridiculously accurate, incredible work in such a short space of time! I’m actually starting a Tool Tribute as well and I’ve been looking for references for the new material, you’ve just helped me loads so thank you 🖤
I don't normally comment on UA-cam videos but when I do it's to say that what I just witnessed was extraordinary! Amazing talent that can't be overstated, It's one thing to cover a song with an interpretation, but to cover Adam Jones playing so flawlessly, to be so sublime, is nothing short of..."damn!" Well played Max! Well Played.
Wow Max. Wow. I am looking forward to seeing you play live soon, in whatever band you form, or are currently a member. In the present, or in the future. You are an accomplished guitarist, to be able to play this flawlessly. Amazing. Keep the sessions up, and I hope you are making a living doing this, because you are very professional. And, the Mastodon T is so appropriate as well. If you can play some Brent Hinds, you can pretty much play anything. Very impressive, from a 25 year guitarist/singer songwriter. Just awesome man. I listened to this on good headphones, and I will listen again just for the guitar track enhancement. Once again, outstanding! A 7empest must be just that.
Thank you so much, dude! Glad you enjoy my content, I try to get the best quality I can out there! I unfortunately don't make a living out of this nor am I in a band currently. Working full time and doing this on the side :)
I hope you can get a project going, it will happen. Life can get in the way, especially full time jobs. I’ve been the poster child of that, seeing that I’ve worked full time since the age of 17 haha. Seeing this is inspiring for all of us guitarist types, for sure. Adam Jones is proud, no doubt.
Don’t see any flaw listening to how you played. Absolute insane song and thanks your deliverance. Definitely you deserve more support on UA-cam (subscriptions). Keep it up man, looking for more songs from the album.
Goddamn. I am so inspired right now. I am a guitarist and this is one of those moments where you know you could play this song, but you realize that it is going to take some serious work. I am committing to learning this song after seeing this. Awesome my dude.
Fantastic job with every aspect of this incredible song! Anyone notice that on an album with a song called Descending (the middle song) that the times for all songs are ascending (CVoices + CCTrip = 14). There is a metaphor there that as Tool members are ascending in age they are not descending in ability or creativity, although Invincible hints at the struggle to stay relevant and on your game as life pulls you to new battlefields. And then they end with this gem of an excursion, the 7th song, with Adam Jones conjuring up his most melodic mesmerizing masterpiece to date. He chugs, he wails, he moans, he grunts through his silver Les Paul. And, it is amazing how for 15 minutes one guitarist can stay pretty much in a single key with little to no chord changes -- nearly everything stays within in D.
Just want you to know this is still super helpful, accurate, and intuitive. I've been practicing with it for weeks now and it has been a massive help. Seriously dude, thank you for this. What a resource!
Just finished learning-- watched this vid a hundred times and played along -- still need to polish up a couple parts (alternate picking on that one little solo section similar to descending solo)-- but pretty much got it down --- Thanks for the content

It's as if AJ knows how to play drums, him and DC are like one and honestly, it's all four of them that make the band so awesome and one of a kind.
This is even more proof that this is probably one of the greatest guitar solos of the 21st century so far!
Bud ive played guitar for 30 yrs & i am a die hard tool fan got em tattood on my arm. You my man are amazing!.... I cannot comprehend how you play as well as you do. You are definetly On another level my friend.
7:47 is some of the sickest riffage I’ve ever heard in my goddamn life
Yo!
Yeah, but at 10:50 7:47 takes steroids.
@@adammeyer8204 thats the best thing about adam jones haha. take his riffage and adds more riffage hahaha
Have you heard of the song four housemen by Metallica there's a riff in the song that's kinda like that part it's fucken awesome
This song will be loved more in the future.
The nuance and discipline Adam plays with is remarkable.
Every note in this song looks so damn hard just by looking. Imagine how hard it might be for this guy to nail this song so perfect. And Don't dare imagine how some guy that was born in this planet like everyone else created those !!!
Repetition, my friend. But you are correct. We're lucky to have this fleshed out in such detail. What a treat from Max.
Awesome, Maya! 😊🤘🏼
Dude that bit in the solo with the delay....nice
That was AMAZING! Great song. I'm still losing my shit over this album. Great video. You are talented man.
Thank you! :)
The solo in this is spectacular. Nice job
Yes, I love it! Thank you :)
Wow. That is an amazingly crafted song played on an amazingly crafted instrument that is being amazingly played. Full kudos to you mate.
Thank you so much, dude! :)
Really impressive playing and presentation. For something as difficult as this track is you make it look effortless...huge props! 🙌🏽
Thank you, glad you dig it! :)
"Play Along Tabs" hahaha this mans got jokes :D
You can do it 🤘
Very nice song. Starts with a beautiful, captivating progression and then turns into a really beefy, old-school riff. Really unexpected when i first heard it.
Entire song reminds me of Undertow, like an angrier Prison Sex.
This is all ridiculously accurate, incredible work in such a short space of time! I’m actually starting a Tool Tribute as well and I’ve been looking for references for the new material, you’ve just helped me loads so thank you 🖤
Thank you! That's great man, glad I'm of help :)
Thank you very much, Angus! Glad you enjoyed :)
When I learned this song I basicly split it up into 3 sections. It makes it easier to learn and remember.
I play it as if it was 3 songs
11:26 what is this technique and how do I do this
Ring modulation
Learn Maynard's black magic and apply it onto Jones.
Holy sh!t dude. That was awesome! The playing, the transcription, a/v timing, the playing.... Very well done. I'll be watching it for years to come.
Haha thank you! :)
My God, it's perfect. I will watch this many times in the days to come
Thank you so much! :)
Man that intro was so well played! I struggle so hard wrapping my brain around that part i'm kinda jealous at this point
Thank you! You can do it :)
Wow Max.
Adam Jones is proud, no doubt.
been listening to your cover almost every day.
totally blown away my friend.
greetings from Austria 🙂✋
Freut mich, dass es dir gefällt! Danke dir :)
Don’t see any flaw listening to how you played. Absolute insane song and thanks your deliverance. Definitely you deserve more support on UA-cam (subscriptions). Keep it up man, looking for more songs from the album.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoy my stuff :)
I love that 12-8 dissonance near the beginning of the solo
Goddamn. I am so inspired right now. I am a guitarist and this is one of those moments where you know you could play this song, but you realize that it is going to take some serious work. I am committing to learning this song after seeing this. Awesome my dude.
Thank you so much! Have fun learning the song, dude! 🤘
Wow thanks again. The detailed transcriptions of the tabs really help!
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed :)
This guitar cover is sick as hell. You nailed it. The playing, the tones and feeling. Great job.
I know I commented before but I've watched this video like 10 times and I'm blown away each time.
Awww thanks, man! 🤘
Simp
Just watched this and I'm blown away. Thanks man for an incredible job. Cheers and keep playing 🤘🏾
Cheers, Todd! 🤘
best cover of this song on the internet by a long shot.... im sure someone will correct me but this is 100% spot on!
Thank you, much appreciated! :)
Great performance again. You are a an awesome talent! PS: I found the Hagen profile and indeed: it's spot on!
Thank you! Yes, it needs some tweaking, but it's very good for a community profile :)
Excellent video, performance and tablature!
adam jones has 12 fingers, this guy has the same number
you have very lucky neighbors
Hahaha I guess :D
Gold 🤣👌🏼
Super clean and accurate performance, well done!
Thank you :)
A Tool cover with a Mastodon shirt has to be epic. Nice job, man!
Just want you to know this is still super helpful, accurate, and intuitive. I've been practicing with it for weeks now and it has been a massive help. Seriously dude, thank you for this. What a resource!
That’s awesome! 😎🤘🏼
That spider riff is crazy. Great job.
Thank you :)
Beautiful. I was expecting it to be technically correct, but you captured so much of the 'soul' which makes Adam's playing what it is.
Thank you! I'm really trying to make my covers authentic :)
Just finished learning-- watched this vid a hundred times and played along -- still need to polish up a couple parts (alternate picking on that one little solo section similar to descending solo)-- but pretty much got it down --- Thanks for the content
That's awesome, dude! Glad my content helps you, thank you :)
That's just insane....Thanks for helping me learn this, I learned so many songs by ear that I know theres stuff wrong but this...this just helps beyond words thanks!!!
Thank you! Glad this helps you, Matthew 🤘
dude you’re really the BEST, I was waiting for this video since 30th of august, keep going!!!
greetings from Italy 💪🏻💪🏻
Fantastic cover! Going to see Tool next month in Boston can't wait. Hope they play this one!
I will probably never know how you are so close to the original version. Amazing!
Thank you! :)
Bad ass son who plays this got my respect love this song and tool riffs
Nicely done. Best cover so far on UA-cam.
I like the fact that you nailed it on an Epiphone. We often spend so much time thinking on the right axe wood, etc... congrats
Bravo. I don't envy you transcribing this, seriously impressive man, you deserve all the subs.
Thank you! Haha yes, at least syncing the tempo has been a lot of work :)
bro you fuckin nailed that shyt......love how he counts when he writes
Nice work, helps A LOT getting this riddle solved! Greets from Germany.
Ja gerne! Viel Spaß beim Lernen :)
@@MaxNiessl Danke!
Dude... you nailed it! What a hell of a track to play straight through an so clean. Wow... seriously mate well done
Thank you! :)
I wonder if Maynard will play a second guitar like he has in the past, filling in for Adam. It'd be a shame for the live version to be lacking that dual effect
Your left hand technique is on point! Thanks so much for all these!!
you literally put on the cheat codes dude so beautiful
Haha thanks :)
Max you are awesome! You helped me with many of the difficult phrases on the many of the tracks that was just used to playing wrong till now. Really appreciate the huge effort of putting this together. This cover is the bees knees. Keep spiralling out and fibonnaccing brother!
Thank you very much, bud! Glad to be of help. Keep on spiraling brother 🤘
How do you achieve the 'bell like' sound on the clean tone?
I used a bit of reverb (actually opposing to the song itself) and a tap delay off by one note :)
Can someone tell me what's happening at 11:25? Whats ring modulation, how does the guitar sound like that? Is it just a pedal? I'm a drummer, I have no idea
Ring modulation basically takes one sound and scrambles it's frequencies into another one. Thus you can get weird sci-fi noises :)
THIS is insane..brilliant. brilliant.
Thank you! :)
Love that you play so much Tool! These videos help me play! Can you make videos on Relentless Flood as well?
