Thinking about applying this to my car! Thanks for sharing guys !

Bro thank you. I'll work on somethin, I need to draw up some plans, but seeing this vid gave me some ideas. Appreciate it.
Why can't you just laminate both sides and skip that orla light stuff so it would be nice smooth, no bubbles and water tight?

can't wait to see the wiring cable of your rc solar panel, :-)
Ferry good lam from Indonesian 👍👍👍
very good video
You should look into CIGS cells rather than crystalline silicone. They aren't as efficient by area, but they are less than half the mass per unit energy.
Great video.
Curious how those lamination pouches held up to UV.
Good job
Thx
Hello everyone,
I see you are soldering each solar cell, to the next one, using 3 (three) independed nickel strips from the one (negative) tab of the cell A to the positive tab of the opposite cell B. I would like to ask what would happen if instead of using the independed stripes, someone will use the provided dogbone which interconnects all three tabs of the one cell as it has a vertical stripe in the middle. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using each approach? Thank you.
Awesome method! I would like to know about don't using the laminator machine... May I just cover with the monokote?
or you can get the cells as thin film and skip everything else. No glass, no break, all one piece to begin with. It also comes in huge rolls, so you could cover the wings of a passenger plane too.
Amayzing!
I don't use that method but mount the solar cells flat inside the wing and use clear covering film on the wing
What's wrong with having them slightly curved
Very nice video, thank you.
I was wondering, why didn't you put the Oralight sheet on the cells, then put the oven liner inside the laminator? Couldn't this produce a nicer finish and get rid of the air bubbles?
Hello. we tried this method without success. This made a lot of wrinkles on the oralight.
This is such a nice process. How is it now?
How much light energy is lost through the Oralight (sp)? I'm glad you didn't use the laminating surface very nice work. My Dad and his brother "trapped" many animals in the 30's in Skull Valley, running trap lines the full length of the valley.
+Deserthunter Mike Hello, less than 5% energy loss
Thanks, I'll look up the rest of the properties.
Why not laminate both sides and you used that "oralight"?
Oralight on both sides is too fragile. Laminating sheet on both sides is too heavy and it cut UV from the sun.
Why didn't you use the laminator to also cover the top part? Have you tested it?
Yes, we tested it. It makes the panel losing half power. Laminating sheets are designed to protect documents from UV. If you can find non-UV resistant laminating sheets tell me where I can't find them. And it's heavier than oralight too. With our solution, you get the best of both worlds.
Why didn´t you use just oralight instead?
I am close to Toulouse. Can we meet to share expérience (i have a glider with hd video diy and using arduplane since 5 years) ?
Amazing!
Добрый день! подскажите пожалуйста электросхему подключения солнечной батареи к самолетной электросхеме и с какой электроникой это связь проводится !
what was the weight after the preparation/filming ?
Hello, very nice project.
What kind of controller and engine do you use?
Is there a batrie that recharges for the engine?
How much power do you get out of the 6 sells and for how long ? (i know you are using more than 6) And is that only in full sun, also what engine size etc can you power and for how long, great idea by the way guys av been following the videos keep up the great work
That depends on wich cells you are using. These days best cells provide up to 3.6w per cells in best conditions. How long ? Sun, clouds, date... Hard to answer but 3 hours before and after noon give you a very good power.
I wonder, what're the best. Individuation for one of these in a cargo RC plane?
Also greetings from Anguilla.
Superbe travail et merci d'avoir partagé !
Je serais curieux de savoir quels éléments 18650 vous avez pris (marque, référence) !
+Julien COPPOLANI Merci, ce sont des sony VTC6
Does this plane use batteries as well as solar? I was just suggesting to another solar plane builder that supercapacitors might be exactly what you need to store enough energy for the times that you need boost and to store extra power available from the solar panels when the plane is not consuming any current under glide.
+izzzzzz6 Hi. Capacitors are an interesting technology, but we are more in focus of optimising energy with the new arduplane feature : thermals hunting.
We need to study capacitors specs to see if it's good for the project. Thank you for advice.
How do the solar cell not break when put through the laminator?
they are flexible
Are the cells waterproof afterwards? Is there any data on how well this holds up over time out in the sunlight/elements?
After 3 years no problems.
awesome
Not to get any bubbles, you should stick it with water. I always use water.
Interesting, we didn't know this trick.
if water doesnt damage solar , u should use it.
If you are worried about water damaging your cells, you can use 99.9% isopropyl alcohol (I am using it for applying protective films on LCD screens) It also has an advantage of quickly evaporating through microscopic pores in the film surface. So even if you don't get all of it out, it should get out over time
windex. use windex
Can you explain further what do you mean by use water?
Did you try baked the oralight instead to use the heat sealing Iron? Maybe it produces less bubbles.
Yes, and the oralight retractation caused problems.
Will laminator works with EVA foam?
You could omit some of the steps if you prepare the materials correctly. 1) Have the laminating sheets separated and pre-cut (including the solder points), 2) have the Oralight film heated with the rest of the parts (this may even be better than manually ironing it on, and removes the need for liner.) Nice project though.
Patrick Jerome Obaldo Thank you. We have tested these options : oralight in the laminator don't works at all. I had to disassemble the lamitor to remove the oralight inside. And the iron is done before putting the oralight not to burn it.
Hi Jean, that's good to know. Didn't think that Oralight would get stuck inside of the laminator. How about enveloping the whole laminate-solarcell-oralight sandwich inside of the liner before laminating?
Patrick Jerome Obaldo for that cell have to be soldered before laminating and the laminator do not like it. And if we solder after laminating oralight will be burned. By the way i'm sure the process can be optimized, keep suggesting your ideas.
how much is the solar panels output per minute and the planes input per minute?
What about don't use anything to encapsulate the cell?
These cells are very fragile and will be dirty very quick.
Hi, do you happen to know what the thickness and weight per cell is?
why are u welding only +? how much volts from 6 cells ?
Great video!!!
Quick question: are you able to reuse the oven liner after it goes through the laminator?
+Jaspar sk Yes, it should be expensive if not ;)
Yes, unlimited use.
The solar cells of the link are the ones used in your project? arent those maxeon C60?
Love your vids, keep rocking!
Hello. No, I can't find the same solar cells anymore. These on the link are the same size and type ( monocristallin ) but less powerfull. Try to look for SunPower maxeon C60 on other websites (BG, AE, eB ...). The DIY photovoltaic market is moving fast, in term of price and availability.
+Andrés Ábrego Updated, good link in description
it looks like a good product description, but take care when recommending an aliexpress product, you never know! xD
wouldn't laminating the cells potentially damage them?
+Grespino 1 hello, potentially yes, that's why we solder cells after laminating. The surface need to be totaly flat not to damage cells. But even with some cracks, solar cells work perfectly.
Hey guys. How did you hook up the cells to the inverter and what inverter did you use? I'm planning to build my Solar glider but cant find out how to connect it to a inverter. Thanks guys
Hi, a video is coming for that. Maybe tomorow.
@@SolarGliderProject Cool. Sounds good. Looking forward to that
super
what brand of solar cell are you using?
Sunpower
@@SolarGliderProject i am from Indonesia, how do i get it? because in my area, solar cells are very rare
Did you try EVA?
Yes, and it was twice heavier.
How do you stick the cells to the wing? Do you bend it?
Yes, panels are sticked over the ribs. C60 cells can bend.
Donde puedo conseguir las selda solares
It’s a little too heavy I think
hey guys , what oven liner are you using ? does the thickness or composition matter ? thx!
We used a textured one, it looks like fabric.
Is that eva film
Hello, I would like to know what is the name of the adhesive tape that you use to keep the distance in the solar cells. Thanks!
+Rodrigo Pereira kapton tape.

Hello guys. Did you try laminating front side with laminator as well? ... or putting oralight through laminator, in order to avoid air bubbles?
We have tried 2 side lamination, not oralight, but 0.25 lamination sheets. we also had
Great ! We tried laminating oralight, it was very bad. You were lucky to find this thin lamination sheets, can we find it on internet ?
We haven't seen it on internet, just in our local printing houses. I can send you as much as you want... But, we're not that happy with it yet. let us first understand what is the problem with it. After few of days flight we have noticed that some cells have micro cracks. To my surprise it was not affecting on power generation. But we think that lamination could be the reason with different shrinking coefficient. BTW, feel free to stay in touch by email - timewind at gmail dot com. regards.

where can i purchase the solar cells and what voltage are they??? dale.kobetich@gmail.com
Hi, link is in the description. Regards.
Sir wanna know those squares are card boards? Or are plastic?
Will you be finishing the video with the final connections? I would like to see the end product.

I'd like a psychologist to explain why people toss stuff around like he did at the beginning. I think it's supposed to be "cool" but it really isn't.

No good works
thats stupid whole solar panel 100w costs 105 dollars while cells u posted 3.5 watts, one costs 4 dollars, that makes 200 dollars only cells to reach 100 watts? omg so useless.
Lets show us your better solution...
dude u need 30 cells to get 100 watts it means 139 dollars, while whole flexible solar panel cost 100 dollars!
@@SolarGliderProject It's useless until you need a solar panel with dimensions of your choosing, to fit in a space that a conventional panel won't. Under those circumstances it is quite valuable.
