Man, it just broke my heart hearing of his passing. He was such a wonderful musician with a rare talent for creating such uplifting music for himself and for others. This track is one of my all time favourite compositions. I'm a huge fan of the band Yellow Jackets and Shaun's 'tribute' to them is wonderful, it really captures the spirit of their music and it takes a special kind of genius to be able to create this but also stamp your own style on the genre. His loss is enormous. He had such joy in his musical journey and I feel so priviledged to have been able to have been part of it. Rest In Peace Shaun and thank you so much for happiness you gave this old guy.
Sometimes when a favorite accomplished musician passes, part of the loss is realizing that we won't ever hear/see them playing the familiar favorites that we love again. With someone like Shaun Martin, the most accute part of the loss comes when we realize that we won't ever hear what they were going to create next. We lost a truly great one, who gave us all so much.
His contributions to this world are so great and it is so sad to know that he will no longer be creating and sharing with the world. Thank you for your kind words, may this incredible, kind, genuine man rest in peace

I hope this sounds as genuine as I mean it too.... i lived in Portland Oregon back in the 80s 90s & 2000s.... there was an actual downtown jazz scene! Gigs and LOTS of players! Two of the guys I had the most fun hanging out with driving to gigs, during breaks, at houses doing sessions... they were both black dudes. Both electric bass players. Players! ...and extremely sweet smart swinging super guys! -i miss them both and those days of serious music!!!!
