I listen to this song in both versions on a daily basis. Haven’t got the talent to ply it like this but am very happy realizing that a great song can join people so distant from each other. Congrats to Shaun and Kim’s band. Great efforts. Would love to know the name of all musicians involved. Thanks for this beautiful music.
All these comments about stoned faces and not having fun seem quite relevant and constructive. But please do mind the fact that these are young, blooming musicians who are beginning to develop their own personality and style in music. Korean curriculum, not only for music but culture in general, tend to put techniques and mastery before all those feelings and fun. Under all that pressure you can clearly tell these students worked real hard for years - so kudos and respect to that! No doubt they will continue to inspire many others along the way.
I'm surprised anyone has said "they seem like they're not having fun". While I agree there are settings in which stage presence and *visibly* having fun are required for the full affect (for example in an upbeat Japanese Korean concert), the closed room/studio setting they're in for this video doesn't call for putting on an exaggerated performance To me it looks like they're giving it their all and definitely having fun, just not the exact same way I'd expect to see in a live performance
Fun?? These young musicians can play circles around those sloppy players who always criticise players who are technically superior to them. And yes, give me great technique over any "intuitive" player who plays with "feeling" as a trade off for slack technical abilities.
@@geomusicmove Totally agree - And no one who has ever played and recorded in an actual studio would ever criticize these musicians for focusing rather than trying to put on show for the camera. Ever little detail is caught in sessions and I can say firsthand that the last thought on my mind when I record is to look like I'm having fun-gotta make sure the playing is actually good, lol.
I don't know about anyone else but this song just brings me so much pleasure. Maybe it's because all of the music I have listen to for my 65 yrs of life. An excellent job... by people so young. Great technical execution. The guy on the lead guitar did a GREAT solo. And I loved the smile on the young woman on the keyboards at the end of this song. She knew... they nailed it.
Perfection. I waited with baited breath for the guitar solo. Unbelievable. I had no idea where he was going to go. And he took me places I had dared to expect. Again - perfection. The human spirit.

It’s like Hendrix once pointed out that before originality it’s important that the band is together.. and this group is definitely together and on time.
Proud of my fellow humans from across the pond but Im in Thailand now with my Honey...retired. I played Montreux at age 17 on trombone...toured Spain with Lou Donaldson in my 40's and now a retired teacher and retired military person. I saw BB King,Albert Freddie Kings and Albert Collins, GB Woody Shaw, Oscar P, McCoy T, Freddie Hubbard,Jimmy Ponder and many many more.Music is in my blood...always have a plan B in this tone deaf world. Keep playing and studying all that came before us. Im 63 and run everyday...You are just warming up greatly and might be able to enjoy life for real. That was so good I had a lump in my throat and had to wipe my eyes at the end. You guys play so beautifully. Truly inspirational. And I've been playing 40 years ow. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
THE DRUM SOLO WHILE THE BASS SUSTAINS IT is FANTASTIC !!!!!!!! COZ THE DRUMMER LEAVES SOME GAP IN his solo enhancing the rhythm !!!! fantastic !!! ALL ARE GENIUS musicians !! ANYWAY
@@hayulon I meant he really sounds like he's talking. His solo has got prosodic, accents, questions and answers and it takes advantage of different 'colors'. Regarding my personal feelings towards this (it's really abstract, even dumb), I feel that the melody gets faster as a person would when getting emotional telling something to a friend. Does it make any sense?
I lived over in Korea for a number of years and have never heard music played like this when I was there. Hats off to all of you for your discipline throughout the years that have paved the way for you to play so well!!!
I do believe that the goal of these students in this video was to showcase the technicalities and skills required to play this song. Having said that, if this was a live performance, I would say it would require them to loosen up a bit and be more expressive with their facial and body language to give their audience an over-all entertaining experience, which I'm sure they are able to do so. And we have to take note, they are still young korean students, they might be shy and not yet fully grasp the ropes of live performing.
These kids are brilliant...time, feel, tone. I hope they all mature into brilliant writers and composers because culture needs real musicians playing real music to revitalize the human condition.
Kim who's your favorite bassist? All of you young men and women look barely 20, how long have you been playing? Everybody is SMOKING!!! I have a 12 yr old grandson that thinks he wants to be a drummer so, along with Steve Gadd, and Dave Weckl, your drummer is included, as a matter of fact this piece. Do you know if Shaun Martin wrote this piece because of the group "Yellow Jackets? I keep hearing elements of there work in all of you. I'll finish after this. You dear lady clued me into Jimmy Haslip. I have been listening to them since 1977. AWESOME!!!!

They're phenomenal. Years ago my ex-wife taught Suzuki piano and had a lot of young Korean students. They were positively THE BEST. Standing ovation.

Some of the more musical and well thought out drum and guitar solos I've ever heard. The band has outstanding dynamics and precision.

That's how i like bass solos (in case there is :) ). Not over the top, consistent with the music, not showing-off, melodious.
Arnel Mendoza indeed
Arnel Mendoza same thing with the drum solo
Yes. I like the solos. I wasn't overwhelmed by them. I love their take on the song. The mood was consistent from start to finish.
