$50 for a card with 512GB of Ram is a bargain sir! Yeah, a lot of these older cards can still run at 720p, but like you said, DirectX is the new issue.
One thing i always see left out in videos on YT is overclocking for GPUs. IMHO overclocking is a nice stopgap as your hardware becomes older. Considering how pants hardware is today with overclocking i think it would be very interesting to compare an Overclocked 4870 vs the 260 stock. 1. This is likely what someone would have done in its time and save 100$ vs the 260, 2. it'll also allow some crossreferencing back to this video to compare performance to the GPU battle. Finally (and this is optional :p) i do like to see comparisons on older games too, perhaps you have some games aon steam around the year of this card and the 260 just to see how performance was when they we're new and what performance people were happy with compared to the high fps/visual quality demands of today. Would be very excited to see a follow up, always wondered how performance in GTA IV is on a GTX 260 :p
Thanks for the feedback. If/when I do a comparison of the GTX 260 and HD 4870 I will be sure to give overclocking them a shot. As for older titles, I will see if I have or can get some older ones more era appropriate. Having said that, synthetic benchmarks are definitely better for comparing relative performance between two different pieces of hardware since they are easily repeated. Still, I will do what I can for the best overall comparison.
Great video, as allways! Good to see, older cards can do some casual gaming . Especially looking at the current market. The 4870 may not be the best choice, but maybe its a useful retro gpu and an icon anyway... And the GTX260 comparison...YEP!
I'd like to use this card for a pc that I want to use for 1080p remote playing from my main pc using parsec or steam link, but I'd have to buy a PSU for it. Could it do the work?
I would suggest a 600w power supply from EVGA. I have used their power supplies and I really like them. Also, stay tuned. I am making a follow up video that can help you get more performance out of it.
I am rerunning benchmarks in windows 7 and finding it has much better results. I think you are right that the low FPS is definitely due to driver issues.
If you are in need of a GPU then ten dollars seems reasonable, as long as you are fine with not being able to play modern titles. As stated in the video its much more suited for retro gaming.

I had a pair of these for crossfire. They were great for sim racing. rFactor and GTR 2 at the time.

Yup had mine clocked to 1Ghz on the core, stable & no issues. Good times.
Well this is better than having no graphics card at all during a gpu shortage
haha that is a very good point.

My channel takes it to another dimension.

Absolutely. 30fps minimum. Anything less is not viable.

Vega 8 iGPU of 2200G is faster
I just picked one of these up for $10 could you recommend a power supply to pair with this im very new to this

@@TechTested cool will do I subscribed. 🎉
i think there is a newer driver mod that brings more fps in newer games like gta 5

Is this card worth $10? An old guy is selling it and it seems fine but idk....

Nasty. I hate working with mine. Crossfire is even worse. On a modern OS get the GTX 285.
you know if you use 16.2 driver you can dx10.1 = dx11 support
