Forging a Friederich's cross using an induction forge

- Still learning how the induction forge is going to fit into the workshop. I use it here to forge a cross, start to finish. I think the biggest benefits so far are less fuel usage, a cooler shop and the ability to apply very localized heat extremely quickly.

Haven't seen a cross that looked this this before and like it Excellent job making it!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Thanks! They're not hard to make once the bandsaw work is done. =)
I always wondered how you made them, now I know.
Pretty simple!
Thanks for the video. Getting ready to make my first cross, and this video is just what I needed. If you don't mind me asking, where did you find a cart that fit that 25L cooling unit so perfectly?
Wow, a year or so after you posted this and I just saw it. Gratifying to know the induction forge gets wrought hot enough to work; I'm about six months from having one, and that was a concern. How come you didn't etch it? It came out beautifully, but I would expect the grain to pop with some time in an etchant.
Very cool to see this. Turned out very cool nice work there. Keep up with the great craftsmanship and work forge on
Jared E. Scheidel thanks!
Derek Melton ur very welcome
That rig is so awesome. It seems to heat up stock crazy fast too!
W. Crum Bladesmith It’s pretty crazy to see the heat spread so fast
nice film dood. short and to the point. oh and a lovely piece at the end of course! i too have a similar machine that i use both for forging and melting. i often drape a bit of furnace blanket over th horizontal coils which greatly improves the heating. i am interested in making a flexible power connection between the machine and the coil so i can tilt the coil with a crucible of molten metal permanently inside it, if you have any info in this area i would be glad to hear it? there is a film on my channel of its first iron pour if you are interested. cheers and all the best
How do you have that set up? Also, where did you source the Induction Heater? Is this requiring 220V?
And of course, I only see your earlier reply after I post my question.... laughs...
I just saw your lightning otf video from 4 years ago, did it come silver or did you remove the paint? If so, how?
Ben Rodriguez wow. That’s a blast from the past. I think I used paint stripper and coated it with clear coat.
Can you give me the name where you got your induction forge n price, are you happy with it? Any regrets
I’ve documented as much as I could on my website www.derekmelton.com/my-induction-forge I have zero regrets other than I should have done it sooner. I use it constantly now.
