I have one exactly like it. Found it in a field. After restoration, it was a couple of decades before I put it to work. Its a fantastic tool. Its used for jobs I formerly did with loppers or small chain saw. Very efficient.
You always surprise me with your innovative ideas when repairing items when parts are not available or just improving on the original idea! You are a 😊 true craftsman. If I was young again, as a perfectionist I would really enjoy and excel in that type of work.
The camera work was so good I could smell the rust. Excellent! Great job on this old school machete, loved the handle and finish work on the blade! Always a treat to see your techniques. Thanks & Cheers!
This is one of your best videos by far! Your restoration was impeccable, and that handle you made is beautiful and suits the whole aesthetic of the piece so well. Have you recently changed camera? Your filming and editing were gorgeous. It really made that beer's colour pop, it made me want one myself! This was an absolute treat, thank you! I'm not well at the moment (my house has cov 19, thank you british government), so this brightened my day significantly.
Sehr schöne Restauration! Viele lustige Szenen waren drin, besonders lachen musste ich bei "Just do it" 😁 Der Griff war mein persönliches Highlight in diesem Video! Gruß
I enjoy watching tool restoration videos (yours included), and I gotta say: I am *AMAZED* at how many different methods there are to remove rust. Electrolysis, chemicals, or just plain grinding it off. It's fascinating!
@@zoiders That wasn’t the primary purpose of copicing, it was a process to produce wooden poles of hazel or ash, harvested on an eight to ten year cycle. The poles were used to make a large variety of objects in pre-industrial society.
what an amazing transformation! I would love something that sharp looking and SHARP in my garden work. I was surprised with the original leather handle...then thought why not! easy on the hand...now we have gloves. Wonderful work!
Wonderful work! Love love love the handle. The next time you have dried leather like that soak it in Neatsfoot oil for a couple days. Thats how we restore old leather on saddles and bridles and all.
In all honesty and from all what i've seen in the restoring and knife smith niche, this video is by far one of the best i saw. Everything is very well explained, the tools are very clean, the work is clear to understand, there's humour and fun, the workshop seems clean, the safety is respected...And so many other things. Now for the machete it is sooo beautifully restored! BRAVO my friend and thanks for being so generous in sharing your knowledge without selfishness!
Ooooh a lovely find from the steel waste picking. Nicely done and loved the handle. Very clever with the "Just Do It", I really laughed out loud at that. Thanks for the upload!
Absolutely outstanding work, she's a beautiful peice. I have an identical machete only a different maker, the makers mark is a straight razor. I have been inspired to work on mine. Thank you. I'll putt up a pic when it's all done. Keep up the great work.
Top-Arbeit! Ich sehe mir gerne Deine Videos an und habe mir auch schon ab und zu mal eine Bier-Empfehlung gegönnt. Bleib dran, das ist top!! Grüsse aus dem Ruhrpott 👋
I think this one is my favorite. I've never seen handle made of leather in that manner. Really hoping you were able to restore the leather. But god oh god the wood was a much better choice. The additional aluminum pieces really brings out its beauty. And the mirror polish. I'm out of words lol. Anyway, I'm wondering how do you determine what method to use to remove rust or do you go by it randomly?
Well if I need to polish it I try to avoid blasting, since it affects the surface. So with blades I always go for electrolysis. Nice to hear from you again Anisa. How are you doing?
@@NTRprojects I see. That's good to know. I've been wondering for quite some time 😅 I've been really good. Manage to organize my time better now so I have quite a lot of free time to spend 😅 How about you? Already working on a new project?
Great work mate. Always a pleasure to see your channel pop up in alerts. As always your attention to detail is amazing. Now I have to wait for your new video.
Dr., a superb restoration. I was astonished by the leather stacking as a way to relieve the hands during extended periods of manual work. It is a shame you were not able to recover them. However, your replacement handle was beautiful.
Many thanks Jim! I know what you mean. I didnt glue the new handle to the shaft so its a little more flexible and gets a slight damping by the lateral leather damps

"Not Terrible", my as_! That is one of the best restorations I have ever seen! It's beautiful!

thank you for the aluminum wobble, it cured my depression
Oh Kalen I'm glad it brought light to your day. I hope you get well soon
I don't know what's better the restoration or beer review.
Glad you liked both :)
Fixing the edges and polishing the blade - you got my like!
Thank you very much
Sweet!
Thanks my man and thank you for this nice gift
The camera work was so good I could smell the rust. Excellent! Great job on this old school machete, loved the handle and finish work on the blade! Always a treat to see your techniques. Thanks & Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you
This is fantastic. Not sure why people down vote this work of art.
Thank you for the appreciation

Thank you Mark

I just saw this. Thank you so much for the support. It's really appreciated a lot 😊
Very beautiful restoration 👏👍👍👍 like my friend 🙂🤝
In the UK we'd call one of these a bill or a billhook. Used for hedgerow work originally. Pretty cool find and excellent work.
Ah thank you for this info. And thank you for your comment
I’m from the US and I’m fairly certain we also call them billhooks 🙂
Oh and I’m 99% sure they’re called a “billhook” blade because of their shape. Just for the few that might not know 😁
Not so much hedgerow work but what is known as "copicing" which is how woodland is kept accessible to live stock and walkers.
@@zoiders That wasn’t the primary purpose of copicing, it was a process to produce wooden poles of hazel or ash, harvested on an eight to ten year cycle. The poles were used to make a large variety of objects in pre-industrial society.
Absolutely beautiful sir
Thank you kindly Cody
die machete habe ich mir vor einigen jahren in der schweiz gekauft ,die ist immer noch scharf, schönes video👍👍👍👍
Great restoration, like the handle. Plus that blade is sharp.
Yes it is and I'm glad it worked out with the MDF method

You are not only a talented craftsman, you are also a creative genius, that handle is just amazing
The blade is cool but I love the color of that beer more.
Yeah it was the perfect color
Very nice. It is a billhook, the most important tool for hedgelaying. Thank you for sharing, it was fun to watch 🙂
Thanks for watching! Just found out about hedgelaying. Very interesting. Thank you for the info
Beautiful! And I really liked the split screen polishing comparisons!

Here is another way to for those leather type handles. ua-cam.com/video/yEwsBrFPoq8/v-deo.html
Great video. However, if the tool was an antique the leather handle could have been restored too.
When you put the machete on the table with the Nike logo I liked
So I guess it was worth it
Sehr schön geworden, gefällt mir sehr gut.👍👍
Mit etwas Übung klappt das auch mit der Tatamimatte 😉
LG Micha
Ja ich bestelle mir noch ein paar und dann wird das 😁
Waow you really improved the final result with the new handle. Beautiful 😊

love how you edit your great videos
Beautiful work. I love the new handle!
In english this tool is called a billhook 😊
Thanks for the info!
I have never seen MDF sharpening before. Very interesting. 👍🏻
Yes interesting indeed. But you don't sharpen with the MDF put with the polishing compound you put on top of it.
Great work mate. Always a pleasure to see your channel pop up in alerts.

Yeah time to get back to work after sitting in front of the computer for editing
