Miss the Gunny. He was the man. Glad he performed this safety video as it is very important. OORAH!!
*Oorah 🤦
Its like The Equalizer Full Metal Jacket Taxi and Westworld had a baby in the Twilight Zone, Its awesome Oorah!
In military basic training, it's taught as "Treat, Never, Keep, Keep". Treat your weapon as if it were loaded. Never point your weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot. Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire. Keep your weapon on safe until you intend to fire.
John Dodd well that eliminates the Glock’s😂
SCREAM THE DITTY 😂😂😂
Fr this is a weird way to here it....their fourth rule is the hidden fifth rule "know your target and what lies beyond"
AYE AYE SIR
@@devingarcia3702 Always fire a warning shot to let them know you mean business.
Amendment to rule 1:
If someone offers you a firearm to inspect, with a closed action, and you don’t know how to open the action, don’t touch it until you do! Ask how!
Zero tolerance for shooting accidents. “ I didn’t know it was loaded” is no excuse for a potentially deadly mishap.
keep your booger hook off the bang switch
XD had to giggle at that comment

Exactly - These four rules were drilled into me from the first time my Dad let me fire his shotgun. The gun is always loaded, don't point at anything you aren't about to shoot, finger off the trigger until ready, what's behind the target. I grew up shooting, but shooting safely, and it's a hobby/sport I love, and if I say so, one I'm good at.
R. Lee Ermey just helped me teach my daughter the rules of firearm safety. Thanks Gunny.
Every gun is REAL until YOU know it's not.
Rule 5 or Rule 1.b
Alec Baldwin should have known this one
If you don't assume a gun is real to begin with, then you don't intend to follow the 4 Jeff Cooper rules to begin with.
Very clear and neat instructional video! It didn’t take 30min or 15min! No annoying music in the background! And closed the video reviewing the lesson learned today! EXACTLY what it needs to be! ❤
Rest In Peace brother. Thank you for being an American hero
Came here for tips.. stayed for Torrey
I came for the tips and then came for the Torrey
That makes three of us
Green haired girl 👱♀️, in case ur stopping by.
Her name is "Tori", not "Torrey".
I wish Tori and Michelle would teach me all I need to know because hot damn I need that kind of help in my life..
You may have heard these rules once...or a thousand times, but hearing them from Gunny just hits different.
German here:
We treat cars like you do guns.
rctrulez ice
Underated
Rule 1: treat your car like its always loaded (full of gas).
Rule 2: Never drive your vehicle at anything you are not willing to destroy.
Rule 3: Always keep your foot off the gas pedal until you are locked in to your target and ready to run it over.
Rule 4: Be sure what's beyond your target (the more damage you do, the better)
German driving
Rule 1: keep the idiot out of the driver seat at all times.
@@SpyrosLv this comment is so funny
Great video.this message is greatly needed.
I miss Gunny. One of my childhood heroes
Rule 5:
All guns are *real* firearms until proven otherwise!
(Toy guns, softair, lookalikes...)
Rule number 6:
There is no rule number 5, or 6, because all guns are always assumed real and dangerous - otherwise the 4 Jeff Cooper rules wouldn't exist.
Besides. Why do you wear eye protection in airsoft games? Because it's "not dangerous" ?!
Why are some robbers successful with fake, or even unloaded firearms? Because people always assume they are real, if they look like the real thing. In the heat of the moment you can't tell anyway.
Why do toy guns have an "age restriction" on them? (3-9 Years, that sorta thing) Because children can put them in their yap shaft.
don't want to Alec Baldwin nobody
Thank you this helped me learn when o go out to shoot again.
We miss ya Gunny! Heaven has another Warrior Angel!
Gotta love gunny. Rip and semper fi.
The salesman should teach you the rules of safe gun handling and/or give you a brochure that explains safe gun handling. Unfortunately many people that work in gun stores are clueless when it comes to safe gun handling.
If everyone would at least practice rule number 3 . Of course all are top priority.
buzzardmuzik1 @ I'd have to say treat every firearm as if it were always loaded and keeping your finger off the trigger at all times are vital. If those 2 rules were followed every time, never pointing a 🔫 at anything you aren't willing to destroy would just be common sense.
@@calebhodson7421 I agree with you but having the barrel pointed in a safe direction ensures that if everything or anything else fails and the weapon is fired no one gets hurt. All of them are important but 3 would be fail safe.
When I was around 8 years old in the late 60s, I went down the hall to my friend’s apartment to say hi. He was maybe a year or two older. His brother was a NYC police officer. They lived with their parents in a two bedroom apartment and so both brothers shared the same bedroom. My buddy was lying in his bed watching a painter paint a wall. His brother, the cop, was standing at the bedroom doorway with his hands up on a pull-up bar watching and talking to the painter. I walked in, saw a small silver pistol on the desk, no holster. It looked exactly like a type of cigar lighter they sold in a store my sister took me to often. Thinking it was a lighter, I picked it up and pointed it at my friend. Thankfully his brother was super fast and grabbed it out of my hand.
Good reminder
I miss you gunny you were the best
Rip R. Lee ermey the most badass person in history may he Rest In Peace

I like these rules. They're very well made.
In order to have an accident that does not involve a freak malfunction or statistical anomaly, you have to break at least two.
Gunny's face on the dry fire 😂
You're awesome in Heaven sir!
Gunny lives forever in UA-cam world
Gunny was a fun guy to watch
I SURE MISS YOU MR. GUNNY !!!
Good and simple intro but have to agree that #4 should not just say be sure the target is clear. As we were taught in the Army plus in all NRA and other courses, the weapon must be pointed down range and in a safe direction at all times. Several times I've seen people at ranges turn around with a loaded firearm, In the Army the D.I. would knock you up the side of the head for this, seen it happen!
Go back to Rule #2
Luv you gunney
no one better for this video. RIP Gunny
Miss you Gunny...
Awww Glock, how did I never see this before. Good vid.

Rest In Peace Gunny!
Aye...aye, Gunny!
No swearing!?!? Lol. Your the man gunny
Violation of rule N3 by Shane while explaining rule N1 !
Safety 1st, Last & always including cleaning of said firearms My routine when cleaning is any ammo is lock away from cleaning bench next, I like peace and quiet when cleaning so I try to do my cleaning when I will not be disturbed. When using my bore snake, I like to run it though the same way as bullet travels Why? because it gets a person used to the idea never point a gun at anything including yourself. Sooner later a person will want to look down a barrel & that why I do it. I know this might sound a little picky but again all it will take is a lapse of memory that could be fatal. Once I cleaned my guns & check to make sure they are working. I place chamber flag in gun. & Place it in my gun safe. If a person not already taken a safety class, then it well worth time & money
If you don't know and practice these basic safety firearm rules, you definitely should, which saves lives.
What's the reason for pulling the trigger in rule #1?
I will remember ...
Improved design, trigger break without magazine
RIP OG Gunny
Yes, the first thing you must always pay close attention to before even thinking about handling a firearm is safety. This is the first lesson I teach to all my handgun self-defense students.
There are 4 major rules of firearm safety that must always be observed. Religiously follow these rules at all times and you'll most likely never experience an accidental discharge.
1. Always treat all guns at all times like they were loaded.
2. Never point a gun at anything you are not willing to destroy.
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
4. Be sure of your target and what is behind and around it.
LOL YES, that is what the video said.
I have Glock 21 is very nice
Goddamn this old man is a boss
These young folks speak so fast today.
I have a couple of extra rules: know when you are permitted to use lethal force, and be prepared by prayer.
Safety? In Rule number 1, he never shows the magazine being removed.
Saw that immediately and reacted with no way of screaming at him! He put his pinky in the chamber then dropped the slide. He may have just filled the chamber. Lame video!
He visually inspected the chamber, and physically. If there was a round in the magazine, he would have seen it, or felt it. I agree though that it isn't best practice to have a magazine inserted upon inspection and clearing.
Rules should be as follows:
1) Always treat every gun as if it is loaded (even when you know it isn't)!
a] Always keep firearms pointed in a safe direction*/never pointing a firearm at anything/anyone you are not willing to kill/destroy.
b] Always keep your finger off the trigger until target is acquired and you are ready to shoot (even when dry firing).
c] Always know your target and what is behind it.
2) If you are going to play with or dry fire your gun be sure it is unload first(and visually inspect to be sure), and keep in mind that all of the above rules still apply 100% of the time!
3) All guns, not in use or on standby** (e.g. - defense weapons at the ready), should be kept unloaded, keeping in mind Rule 1) a-c] still applies 100% of the time, no matter what!
Footnotes:
*1) a] - at gun ranges the only safe direction is down range.
**3) It is very important that all firearms at gun ranges on stand-by should still be kept unloaded and pointed down range.
Gunny !
Rule #2: Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
*repeatedly points firearms at the cameraman in the show Lock 'n Load.*
Or maybe he was completely willing to destroy the cameraman.
God we miss you Gunny
See you soon Gunny
R. Lee Ermey AKA 'Gunnery Sergeant Hartman' was the ultimate badass in movie & real life. You can tell just the way he keeps direct eye contact with who he's talking to. Dude was too cool. RIP Sgt. ua-cam.com/video/tHxf17yJsKs/v-deo.html
What happened to keep yaur weapon on safe ?
SIR YES SIR
I guess I knew all 4 of these without actually knowing when I went to the range for the very first time.
I miss him. He was the coolest actor, i could play the best tuoghest characters
God speed, Sergeant. R.I.P.
What about not shooting at hard objects? I shot a whiskey bottle with a .22LR rifle when I was a kid. I actually saw the bullet hit, flatten out a little bit, then bounce off and fly past my face I either felt wind off the bullet or it just barely brushed my ear. I was afraid to shoot a gun for several years after that.
You'll shoot your eye out!
1 you have to watch the video
2 you have to listen to me
3 you have the understand the rules
4 you have to follow it
done
0:44 Shane what is this? My safety.
You were my hero gunny why did had to die on me?!?!?!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Rest In Power R. Lee Ermey!
My dad taught me these 4 rules before he took me to the rifle range
When you said destroy for me it means rekt
ACTS & PROVE
Assume the firearm is loaded.
Control the muzzle direction.
Trigger finger must be off the trigger and out of the trigger guard.
See the firearm is unloadred prove it's safe.
Point the firearm in a safe direction
Remove the magazine and remove the cartridge from the chamber
Observe the camber
Verify the feeding path
Examine the bore
This guy was born to be a DRILL SERGEANT..... SIIIIRRRR 😂😂
I cannot underscore how important these rules are... and how often they are ignored. I recently visited a local gun store, where a certified armor of a major gun brand said he could show me a “better” way to disassemble my pistol, and the first thing he did was cup his palm over the muzzle! After he put it back together, he aimed it at his arm again! I told him that was unsafe, and that a military or civilian range would have him removed for doing that, and he told me to go to hell. He was reckless and negligent.
Here’s the difference: The guy selling me the used car doesn’t teach me how to drive it before I can take it off the lot. The state does that: I need a license to demonstrate I know how to drive a car before I can legally drive it off the lot. The car also has to be fully registered. Why can’t we require the same level of scrutiny with guns?
Tori and Michelle 😭😂 hello!! 👋
Mistake on rule #1. Gun is not clear until you ensure that a magazine is not seated.
Sgt. Sui Generis. RIP R. Lee E.
Spread this video around! Amazing how many don't know this.
And if all are top priority then how can #3 be most important? (contradiction of terms)
You can't have one without the other.
Most important feature of a weapon is your MIND! Keep shootin'...
Actually this video is dangerous and is going to get someone killed. Shane’s little rendition of Rule Number One is far worse than just leaving the weapon loaded.
@@Maryland_Kulak
I disagree, it's not a "little rendition." It's true and is always the first rule of safety whether you shoot or are a 10 year old kid seeing a gun somewhere. "It's loaded." Presuming a firearm is loaded will never get someone killed.
Working with the presumption that the arms seller does their job (another discussion) and explained the function of the weapon and rules of safety, there comes a point where personal responsibility comes into play. This is a brief video which operates a premise that it isn't needed to, in this individual video, explain in syllables all of the nuances of buying, owning and operating a weapon.
The four rules work. Practicing commonsense safety works.
Using your brain for other than a whistle stop and employing some personal responsibility has something to do with it, as well.
@@MtnBadger Shane failed to remove the magazine. He inspected an empty chamber, released the slide and potentially rechambered a round and at 1:05 he pulled the trigger on what could have been a live round. Is that how you think it’s done, cowboy? Were Shane’s sights on a target when his finger was on the trigger? Was the firearm pointed at something he wanted to destroy? Ermy’s foot? The daycare center downstairs? “All firearms are loaded” doesn’t mean unload the firearm. It sure as hell doesn’t mean pull the trigger to prove it’s not loaded. Use your noggin for something besides a whistlestop.
@@Maryland_Kulak
My point, in reference to your comment, is the premise of the rule is correct. All guns are loaded. I also said that common sense has to prevail. I'll acquiesce to his mistake but being condescending and calling people names like a perpetual 10th grader isn't going to make your point.
I said the four rules are sound and use your brain. Especially if someone else makes a mistake... Glean the good points and beware the rest. If you can't do that, you belong on the rubber gun squad, anyway.
The "gotcha" mentality and need to insult everyone, rather than point out a mistake for people to realize what they should avoid, is your problem. Not mine.
@@MtnBadger I’m a retired infantry lieutenant colonel who retired after 29 years and 10 months in the US Army. I’m not part of the “rubber gun squad”. I am pointing out that contrary to your opinion that this is a great video that needs to be shared, this is a dangerous video that is giving people bad advice and needs to be taken down. I’m sorry that upsets your fragile little ego, Big Hat No Ranch.
R. Lee Emery rest in piece
RIP....
RIP Gunny.
5TH RULE: after destroying your target, always say " you have been Terminated"
"Fear The Wood" Ik ben Ender.
Ah crap I knew I forgot to send this to Baldwin last week. meh. should be fine 🤷♂
Sooooo, if i accidentally fire a gun (and probably aiming randomly) i have violated all rules at once. Not noice.
i like Glock 21
R LEE ERMEY!!!!
OoFuckinRah Gunny! God speed 🇺🇸
May he Rest In Peace 😔
Okay.. I groan on that guy talking about treating all guns are loaded (Rule #1).. telling you to check the chamber, close the slide and pull the trigger to ensure it is clear. There is no need to pull the trigger.. At least state to point the firearm in a safe direction. Note that pull of the trigger breaks Rule #3 in the video.
Baldwin should've watched this. Might have saved someone's life.
He must be prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter and negligent discharge of a firearm. People need to learn basic rules of firearm use. Guns are not props.
yo wtf i remember meeting him when i was a kid
Rule #5: always check that you don´t use live rounds before firing at a movie set. Treat every round as a live until you have convinced yourself that it is a dummy or blank round.
Baldwin violated all four basic rules of firearms safety.
rule number 1, should of mentioned dropping or checking the magazine also, not just the chamber
Yeah, Shane just loaded the chamber and pulled the trigger when his sights weren’t on the target at 1:05. Idiocy. With a smug know-it-all expression on his face the whole time. Glock and UA-cam should take this video down or face lawsuits
I have watched this video many times to remind myself of the 4 rules. BUT I just noticed, Shane NEVER handed Gunny the Glock AFTER Gunny asked to see the Glock.
I would have said that's your trigger finger!
I wont be able to keep my finger off Torreys trigger
